The Warrior of Darkness [SPOILER]

I pretty much think that its the NPC WoL of 1.0. Why they became the WoD and the Legacy Players are not is easily explained. We were stronger and didn't succumb to the Darkness. We were not alone. Maybe the Ascians waited exactly for them to corrupt them or whatever. There are many Ways why the Legacy Players did not became Baddies but the NPC WoL did.

But honestly i can't understand Hydaelyn. It's always written that, if the Light grows stronger the Shadow will be longer/darker. Light and Dark always coexist. Maybe we have a already "not sane" Hydaelyn who wants to flood the World with Light? How can we know that we are doing the is right Thing?

So im not really comfortable being such a powerful being. Like the Ascian stated it makes us less human and more like a godly being.

or maybe they're simply the chosen warrior of zodiark.

I wonder if he needs to do "run, fetch, talk, kill" quests too so that his power of darkness grows lol xD

Guys the final cutesene with the WoD, who is gonna be its preatty clear. The fact that we see a dark derplander ( the default WoL" Us" ) its clearly a way to saing us that the WoD is gonna be the WoL (us ) is oposite representation, your negative, our positive aka evil twin, its really clear. Just beacuse we see "dearpy dark" over there odesnt mean that the guys we saw on the mvoie trailers are gonna be the WoD.
We all know by far that the guy we saw on the movies is the WoL, nothing much to be said about it. So I stand on my point that the WoD is gooa be a dark/oposite version of our WoL, its entirely possible.

Here's my take on what seen so far. All those with the echo were once 'gods' primals/eikons and the allagans found a way to strip them of their power forcing them to join the mortal cycle of rebirth through the lifestream yet the allagens could not remove the power of the echo completely so while the old gods were now bound by life and death within the lifestream and forced to live mortal lives being reborn and aging like a mortal would, the echo remains throughout the cycles/rebirth. The old gods themselves now bound to mortal lives have over the past 5000 years forgotten who they once were.

I think the ascians who were also once former test subjects, gods that were stripped of their primal power but zodiark reminded them and helped them seek revenge while hydaelyn tried to bury the past and keep the old gods in ignorance for the purpose of keeping them subdued and peaceful. The two ascians at the end of the storyline dungeon which tried to use the echo to become more powerful and merging was an attempt to use the echo to become once more the primal(s) they once were but failed to fully regain that power. I don't think SE will allow our characters to regain our old god/primal status though no matter what happens but I imagine they will have the story show probably an ascian regain his primal powers from the echo at some stage while plot wise they will probably have ours 'choose' to remain mortal, living through life cycles with loved ones, being with them as mortals whom to share lives, bonds, friendships with.

The WoL and WoD is the same primal/old god and is another test subject from the allagans attempt to control the primals, the old god being split into WoL/WoD but neither of them are actually good/evil or light/dark...rather one found out the truth and now seeks revenge while the other aka our current WoL still lives in ignorance. Hydaelyn is manipulating our current WoL and hydaelyn also manipulated the previous WoL (now WoD) during the period of 1.0. The ascians side with zodiark however have since shown the previous WoL the truth about who and what he once was and in doing so he/she turned/changed.

Though WoD probably still feels like is doing the right thing after finding out the truth but the real truth is that the previous WoL (now WoD) is still being manipulated but this time not by hydaelyn, but instead by ascians/zodiark while current WoL is being manipulated by hydaelyn still and has yet to find out the truth. I think at some stage in future storyline the current WoL will find out the truth when meets time and time again in combat the WoD and at some point will be told by him/her. Then over the course of content they will resolve their differences in how to handle that truth, becoming one sole entity again only from the point on would be free from the manipulations of hydaelyn and zodiark, forging their own path this time not through ignorance (WoL) or revenge (WoD).

To get really out there: We know multiple universes exists in FF, and that the void connects them. Its how Gilgamesh can be the same incarnation in each game. What if the Derplander we see is actually an alternate universe one, while the one in the trailers and promotion and all is one who stays a Warrior of Light? What if maybe in his version an alternate version of one of his companions is the WoD he has to fight?

What if in 4.0, we end up meeting that same Derplander WoL, claiming that he defeated us, the WoD? Just throwin things out there, hopefully we learn more at 3.1.

My money is on the Warrior of Darkness and his crew being just like the Ark Angels from FFXI. I mean in look and probably whatever fight they cook up. A lot of FFXI (armor, mobs, aesthetics etc.) seems to be gradually making its way into FFXIV and that's not a bad thing. I was super happy to see crawlers and dhalmels :D

Personally hoping that derplander was just a stand in and that the real WoD will be a darker version of our own characters. Thought since the game is fully out and it was derplander, in stead of us, that leads me to believe that it will actually be him.

The fact that is a dark derplander makes be even more agreed on that the WoD is gonna be our oposite represetation. Why SE didnt showed us ? beacuse SE is SE, they only gave us a clue. We all know so far about the "clues" on FFXIV, they arent gonna gives the full information just now jajajajaja xD

As someone said previously, our character could be a construct of Hydalen OR Hydalen herself, or our character could be a Primal (most likely hope given form).

It's worth noting that Derplander in the trailers is used as a symbolic representation of us as the players. In the same vein Elidibus referred to the WoD as 'you and yours' implying he was representative of a larger number. I think it's a fairly safe bet that the Warriors of Darkness (plural) will be reflections of our own characters. The single 'Derplander of Darkness' seen in the epilogue was merely representative much like Derplander is in the trailers.

Well I am curious on how they will handle the WoD. After all there are many question I have about them such as..


-Will the WoD have their own voice actors or remain the silent type like our characters?

-Will the WoD represent the possibility of 4.0 being a separate storyline if they plan to give players the possibility to make a choice when they start a new character in 2.0 or 4.0 era?

-How will the WoD be properly incorporated if we are given a Trial or Dungeon where we may face them as a Boss fight?

and etc.

Too many question but only time will answer all.

It would be pretty neat if the WoD mirrored the looks of everyone in the party currently fighting him.

How would they explain this considering the DRK questline? Sure I may be only at level 45, but that quest alone has revealed all, that Fray is really

ourselves, our dark thoughts and feelings, the actual way you'd think we as players are complaining about why we have to do all this crap.

It'd be nice, but as I pointed out in the lore forum, people would try to force everyone to be in a certain party formation so that the fight can be easier. Unless the Warrior of Darkness has his own unique abilities...

He's just a plot device of the DRK quests representative of our internal struggle. It doesn't really have anything to do with the Warriors of Darkness...

There's nothing stopping them giving the Warriors of Darkness our physical appearance in terms of race, gender and CC selections whilst giving them their own unique abilities. They could imitate our appearance without imitating our jobs.

There's something, it might be a separate fight for everybody and not a group trial. Because I'm sure he won't take the appearance of 8 guys.

Ya at this point this may not be far from the truth.

I won't be surprised if they decide to have the WoL die at the end of 3.X era or during 3.X era MSQ but then have the WoL return a few years later in Eorzea time frame after his or her death during the 3.X MSQ since the WoL is need once more but that just a hypothesis I have if it is true that the WoL has been draining Hydaelyn's Aether due to her constantly giving the WoL more of her own power to fight the "darkness".

I wonder if the Ascians saying Hydaelyn is a parasite and she is now encroaching on the realm of gods means we might have to put her in balance since there is too much light now.

They could be sneaky about it, so each player only see's their version of the warrior. They could otherwise have the same skills and spells, so gameplay wise no one would be any the wiser.

Assuming FFXIV is following FFIII's concept of dark and light (and Elidibus' reference to equilibrium suggests they are) the warriors of darkness are born of a separate crystal of darkness. You do not choose the light or dark, and they do not represent good or evil. The warriors of darkness are essentially our equivalent fighting on the other side of the balance. It would be impossible for players to ever switch to being warriors of darkness because we are born of light, not darkness. It's simply an impossibility within the entire concept of the duality.

Unless SE pulls something like the WoL dies near the end of 3.X era and loses all his Light due to his or her death. At that point the WoL may be given a choice to return as a WoL once again or as a WoD.

Assuming SE may give players a Choice to start a new character in 2.0 era or 4.0 era in 4.0 release. :p

After all once a WoL dies..

Yep the WoL is become very power to the point people may start thinking he is a God or Goddess.

This aspect is shown quite nicely in the DRK Job storyline where you go back to meet old NPCs and some new ones by showing how each one views the WoL.

This also does make me worried as well because ya the WoL is all powerful but how long before someone decides to show the world the WoL is not a God among Eorzea but just a person that can be killed.

After all the entriety of Eorzea completely depends on the WoL as of now when it comes to Wordly threats like Primals and the Garlean Empire.

Their entire Hope depends on the WoL being alive and if the WoL dies most people would probably give up and let the world burn.

Just how much long will the WoL be allowed to continue until the world is forced to realise that the WoL even has a limit as well?

I'm guess in 3.X.....

i would believe the WoD aren't bad guys if the ascians weren't evil even when they said we are getting to powerful and the balance is off they also said if we get anymore powerful we would be able to stop their plans (to summon zodiark and do whatever evil thing they are after)

i think the real question is who/what is zodiark ascians make it sound like a primal but we all know at this point primal are not real and just the summoners thought given form.

so we know they aren't just out to summon a perversion of zodiark so there is either a way to actually summon the real versions.

or zodiark isn't a primal but another world? (Hydaelyn is the mother crystal/world) and the warriors of darkness are a way to make it possible to remake this other world that seems to have been destroyed (sense people keep bring up FF3 in which WoD protect the alternate world which is the darkness version)

hope this is new pvp in open world and you can join the side of warrior of darkness vs warrior of light, dream is free.

This has been my theory too, that the Warriors of Darkness are the pre-calamaity heroes whose names have been forgotten.

It would be awesome of they were shadow versions of us players, though. A Dark Dark Elf chasing a Dark Elf. Bring it on.

Though aren't Legacy Players really the Pre-Calamity Heroes whose names were forgotten due to what happened during the climax of Bahamut's attack?

How would that be exampled? That there were others (NPC) besides the Legacy Players that became Warriors of Darkness?

I wonder if every Ascian on the moon forces the WoD to endlessly run fetch quests for them too? If that's the case, maybe ol' WoD and I aren't so different after all...

A dev said that was a mistake and that it was actually Eldibus--the text was a glitch. Eldibus is voiced by Ishida Akira in Japanese and there was no mistaking that the voice coming from the "white robe ascian" was Ishida Akira's. ....so with the devs saying it was a glitch and the seiyuu being the seiyuu in the credits....it's Eldibus.
