A challenge!

That sort of thought process isn't too constructive though, it doesn't challenge SE to actually try and appeal to those who want more Beast like races! If the community doesn't say "Okay we want a beast like race next time" and just accepts it won't ever happen, all we will ever get is "Hyur/Miqo'te/Elezen with (Insert mammal here)"
The current beast tribes would be sorta neat, but body armor, a whole lot of story issues, and some player demands are acting as a pretty preventative factor to it. Plus I'd prefer additional races be something new, if not only to breath in something that feels unique and like care and thought was put into it.
It really is working to both the community and SE's desires! Heck I'd love a more beastlike race, but if it's at the cost of sacrificing most armor in the game and making absolutely no sense with the lore of the game, it's kind of hard to want it then.
Then again Au Ra should have issues fitting in Ishgard or the other City states, given the possibly draconic or voidsent origins of them
Miqo'te should have been fox people in the first place, tbh!
Absolutely not. Playable Kitsune would be a disaster. I mean I finally settled down on a look for my future Au Ra and you want me to fantasia again?! Do you want to ruin me?!
-A new race is not supposed to be something majority of the XIV community flocks over to. It's to be something different (Au Ra females can easily be made to look like a Hyur Midlander). If SE continue to make new races based on what is popular, we're only going to have cute girls and cool boys that are 99% human. We need more strange/ugly/unique things to play as.
-Humanoid bodies (so that takes care of the clothing for the body, arms and legs), miscellaneous hands, feet and faces (so only the clothing for hands, feet and heads will require alterations).
-That's SE's own fault, however it could add some interesting NPC dialogue. Just make the beast-like races only be able to start in Limsa Lominsa and add an extra NPC for them to talk to when doing the Envoy quest.
And to repeat for those saying they want Viera: Change to a female Roegadyn Hellsguard, get the rabbit ears and claws from Gold Saucer and you're done (reminder, Viera do not have tails).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRqvrj2m_vk Make them like this, Miqo'te and Au Ra die out forever,
already exists
and foxgirl?

i'm all for diversity. the more character creation choices the better imo.
now only if they were closer to mithra...
From laughter? Seriously, how is she standing with those tails...in most pictures of her they're more spread out and less like having a bunch of bananas strapped to her butt.

If SE continue to make races based on what's popular, they'll always please the majority of people. Why on earth would they make something that isn't popular? "Oh, let's make something ugly barely anyone will like!" really doesn't sound like a great idea for a business.
Bangaa or bust!
Also, I think I heard somewhere that that Japanese fanbase prefers races that are "human with bestial features", hence why we have the races the way they are now. From another standpoint, having playable races be mostly human means less work for the gear design team.
If it's always gonna be "well it's like human but cat/dog/rabbit/fox etc" then if not Viera, then how about something like
http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...an_Dragoon.jpg
we get our tail, our feet, weird ears and even a snout
A fox girl is fine too.
But really if there's one thing Tera taught me, it's that squirrel girl is amazing.
If they introduced fox men I'd switch immediately, no regrets.
Because making something the majority like is basically telling those who aren't a fan of "99% human 1% miscellaneous" to go elsewhere. Even if it's just a small %, at least there will be playing the new race.
Constantly getting cute girls and cool boys will make certain most Western players and some (or even most if they're sick of it) Eastern players choose not to buy the game (not everyone is a fan of anime).
Uniqueness/Variety > Popularity (staleness)
Exactly.

If they were they wearing Tanking or AST gear, the only way to tell these two apart would be to find the tail.
-I don't disagree with you! I was stating SE's reasons on the similarity between girl Au Ra and the Miqo'te/Midlander hyur. SE seems to be going less for the "I don't have a race I like yet" and more of the "I like using fantasia and changing often" sorta crowds, hence the appearance of Au Ra looking so similar. Honestly I'd love something more unique looking, it doesn't necessarily need to be full on beastman sorta thing, but I want like at least 90% human 10% beast, or at least something not so waifish with the girls >_>
-Reasonable honestly, it's be more work for SE but that's their job. The only issue is people might not play the race due to basically incomplete outfits, no fancy dress shoes, this helmet looks even more dumb than usual, et cetera. It's not a major deal, but it's a reason why SE might not want to.
-It is SE's fault, however they should shy away from Retconning and forcing players to only do certain things, like, what if I want to play this new race, but I wanted to start as THM? They're already dealing with this problem with concerns of both the Au Ra, Duskwight, and Moon Keepers, their response is basically keeping things as generic as possible to prevent players from shying away from those races.
Honestly, SE needs to find a proper balance between beast and human, either allowing for more options when making the character or finding that balance within the base design. As long as it looks unique without being absolutely horrid looking, I wouldn't complain, the Au Ra, with particular focus on the girls, don't fit that though.
I couldn't agree more, as far as race selection goes, this game has nothing to offer. Of course the "pretty" race is going to be the most popular, just look at bloodelves from WoW, that doesn't mean every single race in the game has to be pretty. There are a lot of players ready willing and stuck waiting to play something more interesting than dainty anime princess/tough anime boy. How about instead of pandering to the audience you already have, you try something different to expand and broaden the audience to those that enjoy playing the unusual?
it's more about time and effort that will be needed for create something less humanlike... outside the fact that add a race that will only be played by something like 1% (it will never happend don't be naive) the fact that make something too much different will ask them to rework the skin for each set of armor that did come out soo far. we are not talking of simple texture like it was for WoW or game like this, but armor with tons of detail and polygon.
they will look nice on humanlike race, but if you create a race too far, it's possible they need to simply recreate a new model from scratch for match the race. more time pass, more it will be difficult for them to add this sort of race without encounter a huge trouble of time/money/energy involved into the process.
we can ask them to be creative, but sadly, let's be honest, they are a company that work for profit... do something that will cost them money and don't earn them profit will not happend. a new race must appeal to a large group of person, not simply 1%.
why did wow did succeed to do it? let's look the race added will you:
- blood elf and draenei, one is an elegant elf and the other is a race of demon like people
- gobelin and worgen, gobelin are small and was demanded by a lot of player and the worgen is a werewolf... tons of player want to play a werewolf.
- panderean.... well only one word to say panda!
but more important the process to adapt armor was easy since most armor are texture with little model change involved.
each race addes was appealing to a mass of player... the trouble here, is if you want a race not too much human, they need to appeal to a mass of player... or it will not happend.
for comeback to the subject, kitsune race (or look a like) can happend with doma country, it will not surprise me actually, but i feel the next extension (themed around the sea) will maybe see a race of amphibian or waterbreathing race, but don't hope for something too far from human.
Which is why I said this.
Why make a new race at all if it's just going to be something we already have, but with maybe one different thing (that will be hidden under clothing)?

To which I shall say: They chose to stick to what appeals to the majority and what would make them money. Why would they waste resources/time on something only a small minority may enjoy? If it isn't cute or sexy it won't sell much. It isn't new or overly unique, but it will still net them a lot from fantasia sales. They know how many people play femqote or fem hyur midlanders in comparison to elezen, roe and highlanders. So of course they're gonna go for what will sell. Sure, they can try to be unique and make something beast like, but I doubt they will.
I'd honestly be disappointed with Yoshi-P if that were to always be the case with new races :/
His team finally gets to make a race for XIV, and instead of something unique (which started off unique in concept arts), it becomes an Elezen hybrid (males) and a Midlander hybrid (females).
if you really did expect something not human-like, you are past naive (without be offending) look at the past final fantasy, the number of race not human-like are little...
SE needs to be wary of mob mentality if they choose to walk down that path, least we end up with a game only the largest minority enjoys because of pandering and alienation which isn't a way to run a sustainable business model. Ultimately, they should listen to the minorities whenever they do have complaints (Such as races being to same-y and cute), they're consumers just like the others are. Right now all SE is doing with the Au Ra is caving in to support that majority and further alienating minority consumer bases, what they ought to do in the future (And what I wish they would have done with the Au Ra) is do something akin to the Hyurs, making one clan incredibly different appearance-wise than the other, it'd be more work, but it would show that SE isn't just doing things to appeal to the majority and actually show concern to their entire player base. But that didn't happen, and now it looks like our next race might be another set of waifish girls and who knows on the guys, which only continues to pander to one group and alienate another.
And? What happened to this being a game with Final Fantasy references but ultimately being something of its own merit? FFXIV has a good bit of non-human-like races with the beastman, and people have been asking for stuff akin to the Bangaa as well, it's not like they can't, its more that they won't for whatever reasons.
No more races until they stop ignoring the ones we have. Tails already are ignored and just clip through everything, fix that before adding more races with more unique parts to ignore.
you can't please everyone, you know? and nothing say that we will get another race with the next expansion, you know it? maybe the Au Ra will be the only race added... who know the futur.
but they are a company that look at the profit/loose ratio. do create a content that will only appeal to a small minority will simply be a loose than a win. them goal is to appeal to more people.... not a minority. if you refuse to admit it, it's sad, because it what happend in every game soo far and will probably continue later.
no alot want to play an uncool race or something totally monstruous.... that a reality, because you will spend most of your time at look at your character it's your avatar and a looooot of person want to have an avatar matching them taste and looking cool.
ps: on the subject i can see the kitsune male look more like a beast more than human, standing on him two feet
already answered this, make a race like the vangaa will recquire to redo every freaking armor that did come out soo far... do you imagine the work that it is? if this race don't appeal to a large public? it will never happend. you simply ignore the technical and bussiness issue from it.
My first thoughts of "cat race" fully fur body, with big cat features came to mind, humanoid figure but in essence a beast, instead we got adolescents humans scaled to adult height with furry ears and tail slapped on them, the anime cat people. If your house cat suddenly turned into a humanoid this is what they would look like.
This is what i had in mind for a "cat race" https://youtu.be/ZniVGJYITs0?t=12s timeskip https://youtu.be/ZniVGJYITs0?t=1m8s timeskip https://youtu.be/ZniVGJYITs0?t=2m2s They look mean, they look like they can bring the hurt to the fight, at the same time totally /pet'able. If those panthers, tigers and lions in the wild turned into humanoids this is what they would look like.
I've been suggesting a fox race since the beginning, they would be more suited to having more human. (Star)foxes would be nice too.
Considering the love the Au Ra have been receiving and the fact that Fantasia makes good money, I doubt new races won't be added.
If you continue to appeal to a strict majority, then you end up skimming more and more fat til you've got a sliver of the original majority left, it's why companies attempt to broaden their audiences and why those who don't slowly fade away as their target audience loses interest. If you continue to accept the status quo because it's just what everyone else does, then you're breeding an environment for mob rule and a slowly dwindling consumer base.
I understand that remaking every armor in the game would be a pain, but that's SE's job. If they wanted the easy route, then you'd have one race option one sex, Hyur dude, and no one wants that, right? I understand the want for a good enough audience for it, but all SE can do is assume and predict, for all we know a more Bangaa like race would take up 40% of the player base suddenly.
People play as a race for different reasons. I chose Roegadyn because they're the closest I can get to making a bear.
The only profit SE are getting out of Heavensward is from people buying the expansion and continuing to renew their sub. People are always buying Fantasias or haven't even used their Fantasia's at all (I have a Legacy friend who still has two Fantasia potions. So SE are technically getting no "Au Ra" money out of him). I've used around 5 Fantasia's, all to change my Roegadyn to look like a different Roegadyn. I'd change to a beast like race in a heart beat if one were available.
There are also potential consumers interested in FFXIV, but are turned off by the lack of choices with the current races. Some have said the options are boring and who can blame them? All we have are: Tall and muscular human. (Tall male elf with horns/no ears). Elf. Regular human. Human with cat accessories. (Short female human with horns/no ears). Gnome.
I could support this only if they had actual fox faces and fur. Otherwise really not excited about more human reskins with clipon horns/ears/tails/scales.
Females (except Lalafell) especially blend together for me as it is. I don't even notice if they're tall or have ears and a tail (nor do I, frankly, care). It's all the same basic girl model to me.
...so this is where the blue fox hide come from
Lack of races is not something we have, therefore i see no reason for new ones to be added. However i think the character creation could be improved.. a LOT.
If we actually had sliders for eyes, nose and such we'd already get a lot more unique looking characters.
It's a shame that the character creation is extremely limited and only gives you a few default options face wise. It just results in everyone looking similar in a way.
