Can only agree on that. Console hardware is always already outdated upon its release and it's functionality is limited. That's what makes it a console. It's also harder to develope for consoles these days... too many limitations and pressure by the big console companies to make the good games into exclusive titles.
In ~20 years there will be no consoles left. Instead everyone will be playing via cloud services on his iPad or iBrain <.<

you can group chat on ps3, idk what limitation is thoug. On xbox its 8 people. Good for XIV due to pt cap size.Shame wont be out for xbox but im sure ps3 is same.

No group chat while playing on PS3 as far as I know. I believe it's one of the upgrades Vita is getting.

Could be wrong though, my Ps3 gathers dust.

They decided to change Levequest System to remove the kind of feeling that you can feel when miss a reset...
I want to rember you all that FFXI went out FIRST for PS2, and all of us know how it's ended.

FFXIV is an FF MMO devoted to a PC audience. Do we really need to go over the result of that little experiment?

The PS3 version is the only hope this game has of survival. Get used to it.

I was strictly console player til i played ffxi for PS2. And the only reason I got a PC was to play another game similar, which obviously never happened because most PC mmos are instant satisfaction WoW clones. I know many ffxi console players who got pcs to play this as well, so your logic fails. If someone spends over $1000 to play one game at launch its safe to say they are interested in playing long hours. But most of them quit because SE tried to appeal to the WoW crowd as well, which i should remind you is pc only.

I have read some idiotic posts on these forums but this one so far takes the cake. I consider myself a console gamer and that is what brought me into the world of MMORPGs starting with Everquest Online Adventures and then FFXI. It wasn't til after then did I have a pc that was enough close to good enough to run an MMO. I do understand how you may base that opinion of the console gamers you know but majority of the gamers I know that play console usually out game the PC players by about 10 hours. Unless they play WoW then that be the only exception because that game steals your soul. You have a very limited view and you need to know that it will be those console gamers you are talking about that will save this games ass when it launches on PS3. In fact I know about 10+ people that has been waiting for the ps3 release because they don't play PC games at all.

upgradeable console hardware.
the end.


really though, the company be it sony or mirosoft
(because well...Nintendo isn't really...yeah whatever)
who is able to provide a console that you can upgrade the cpu, memory, etc
would be the dominant power in gaming.

If the PS3 killed ffxiv as the title of the thread suggest, its becasuse supporting both PC and console severly restrict game dev and designers freedom when making the game as well as adding another layer of complexity and QA requierments.

Just want to say lol, And you don't need to play ffxiv/xi on pc to use chat programs. Voice chat programs are not connected to ffxiv therefor all you need is a pc to use them.

Seriously this is the most idiotic statement I have ever seen. You do realize that the ps3 release is the make or break point of the game? actually most things you say are rather pointless. Just because we play one game on the pc (only system its on) doesn't make us pure pc players seriously think before you type.

There are hardcore players on both sides...casual players on both sides. The intention of the leve redo was to free up time for more group oriented things so people could get raids done AND have the ability to not miss out on leves due to them expiring. I think it's going to cheapen the accomplishment value of crafting and gathering but I know I am in the minority on that opinion. Both have been a sore spot due to the time investment and taking away from when people want to go out and clobber mobs.

As far as the level disparity between hardcore and casual players...that will increase. This new system will free up travel time so much that hardcore players are going to have even more time to free hand anything they want and pound out leves between 1-2 days a week. Casual players will see this soon enough. The only way to stop hardcore players from gaining anything faster than casual players in any game is to limit the time people are allowed to play.

You have it half right PS3 is going to kill FFXIV at somepoint in time it going to limit FFXIV only on "PS3" They said FFXIV going to be 720p only on PS3 and allow 1080 on PC and even going to upgrade to DX10/DX11 on PC. Unlike FFXI this game is base on the PC first sure the market is for the PS3 but at the end this game would run 100x better on PC and would have DX10/DX11. But unlike FFXI there no HDD issue on the ps3 so let's see how long ffxiv can run for on the ps3 before we hear ps3 limitations sorry. I would say FFXIV would have a good 5 years at best on the PS3 before we hit any type of limitations. So no need to worry too then :) no need to make this pointless topic when we all know SE would never kill the ps3 when that is the last hope for this Game.

Now that I've read this thread I've reconsidered everything I was ever taught in life and am now going to uninstall FFXIV, move to Asia, and teach tai kwan do to less fortunate asian babies. Damn PS3!!!!

Though most have stated the OP is stupid, lemme check my FFXI game time on my xbox.... hmmmm 4600 hours since Oct '07. Consoles suck.

Yeah i played FFXI on PS2 an PC and i played the game alot for the most part never had a diiferent view on the game with either, i just liked the PC version better because of the graphics.

Personally when I get the game for PS3 I will play it on there over my PC. Even though I can run this game on Highest settings on my PC and the PS3 will only get 720p doesn't bother me one bit. Currently I don't even have 1080p TV and play most games on 720p and they looks absolutely amazing. Even when I turn this game down to low settings and a lower resolution this game still looks amazing. The 720p on the PS3 isn't going to be that big of a difference unless you are just a graphic buff like some. Most people who buy the game for PS3 are going to be blown away because it is the best looking MMORPG on the market and will be the best looking by far MMO on console.

pure ignorant statement. no matter what changes they make you will always get more sp if you play everyday. you may mean if you only run leves only and don't have to pick them up, but that is still not maximizing your sp. if you do all your leves then kill one mob you get more sp so you were not at max.

I must say with only glancing at the title of this thread, this may be the last time I post on these forums. Just after reading less than a page of posts, realized that you guys are the worst of the community, an eye sore.

i like the people that tell you gamepads are faster than keyboards. no i really really do.

truth is, this game is never going to go anywhere and will probably be shut down. they are simply not releasing patches enough.

(by shutdown i mean f2p with microtransactions) because nobody in their right mind would play this game over competitors like wow. they released this game in alpha state, with no jobs, no mounts, no auto attack, really absolutely nothing.

they released a 20% finished game.

ffxi was massive and it was developed for the ps2 in the first place. And it was doin well for quite a long time. A lot of companies cater to both systems now.
The problem is, that SE doesn't do it very good imho (but more on the hardware side, the content side has nothing to do with console or pc gamers i guess)
