This is how it is in XI. As long as you have leveled the job and can actually equip the piece, you can glamour it onto any job. It really allows you to get creative with your look and I would totally be down for that in XIV.
As others have said, there is no good reason for them to hold so firmly only to the job-specific glamours when people are running around in all sorts of ridiculous costumes.
Maybe its because I'm a scholar main, or the fact that I'm female but imo scholar has some of the better gear to use for glamours.
They have access to the usual nice looking healing gear as well as the AF/Eso gear. In fact I'd say the AF legs are one of the best options when it comes to leg glamours >.<
That seems refreshing to me.
"You can't use Warrior-DRK-Dragoon Armor until you reach level X on Dragoon."
That would give people reason to level other classes besides just for combat.
Of course, a Dragoon full suit without a lance would look silly. However who says you have to use the full set of an outfit? Maybe they were a Dragoon before and just cept the helmet for example?
While I would be all for using gear from other classes, I've seen far too many players who don't know what a job crystal is or how to acquire it in post-30 dungeons and seen far too many tanks who literally do not know that they are meant to tank. I've been in runs where the tank would grab one out of four or five enemies and literally just attempt to DPS that single target down without once touching the others that were attacking the party.
It may sound like a very bad reason, but after playing since 2.0 and seeing players brand new to MMOs, I've come to realize that there are many players who literally don''t know what they're supposed to be doing. Heck, I used to be one of them. I started as Archer and I knew, without a doubt, that I needed to equip Strength gear despite being told otherwise. God forbid these new players see tanks wearing mage gear and don't realize that it's just glamoured.
And that is part of the conversation why? We are talking about cross-class glamours only available for high level players. Players who don't even pick their jobs will not only not have access to said armor but won't be able to get it. So that is null/void.
Unless you meant to reply in another topic. In which case I'm sorry, but what you say makes no sense.
This is *only* for glamour purposes. You also cannot roll "need" for gear less your that character.
I apologize if I am rude, but i've never been fond of "you can't have this" because a person can't put a square in a circle. If they are having that much trouble they probably cannot even use the glamour system in the first place.
I understand what you're saying. I never mentioned rolling on anything, or not glamouring something. I was speaking strictly about using gear for glamouring purposes and the confusion that it could cause a new player, which was SE's stance as well. Imagine a new player who, not realizing that gear can be glamoured, sees a BLM running around in DRG gear.
Example: an endgame BRD that has glamoured using BLM gear goes into a low-level dungeon for whatever reason, particularly a leveling dungeon. A new player, not knowing any better, and not realizing that it's only glamour, believes that BLM gear will someohow be handy for ARC or BRD. Of course, they'll eventually be restricted from equipping anything outside of their job once they hit tome gear -- but this does not rectify any issues when leveling.
I was stating that new players, because FFXIV is on console, are often completely ignorant when it comes to what they should be doing. I was grabbing melee DPS gear as an ARC early on because I also misunderstood what I was supposed to be doing. Given what I've seen recently, I can't support the idea, as much as I'd like to.
Well, I think the first clue he gets is when the guy is using spells or his group window saying BLM. I also don't see why, I do low level dungeons all the time and I usually don't look at other people at all. I barely know most of the time what I remember them wearing and could care less if they show up.
Plus, that confusion already happens when a tank comes in with a Bikini.. hey whose the tank? However, I haven't seen any complaints here.
Oh.. must be the bikini wearing babe with the GIANT axe.
I want my summoner to wear a cool armor. :)
Doesn't seem to be the case in most fantasy settings, though. Fantasy fiction is rife with armour-wearing magic wielders. Paladins, templars, dark knights, battle mages, mage hunters, wraiths, elven warriors, the Black Riders from Lord of the Rings, Witchers, the Dragonborn in Skyrim... the list goes on.
I would honestly rather see more male only gear. Females have more glamour options than males....I want bunny ears!!!
If you have some old 1.0 stuff lying around, you can wear chainmail and plate as caster anyway, because those old pieces are glamourable but not class restricted in any way. One of my FC leaders does that on one of his characters :3
Aside from the AF sets...I really don't see a point in the restriction.
I know it's been mentioned before, but I think this would make a lot of people go back and level their untouched jobs (assuming there is the requirement that you have to be able to actually equip the item on the correct job prior to glamouring). Shoooot, I know I'd go back in a heartbeat and finally finish that MNK and WAR I've been putting off for years.
I know it's joked about quite often, but glamour IS a big part of end-game at this point :P This would give people an excuse to go back and level up in old dungeons, or to start farming old content for that piece of gear they never had a use for, but now suddenly do.
Sorry, I kind of repeated myself there D: Too early! Gonna leave it for now.
...Right. Because there are absolutely no robes or cowls available to paladins as is. Most pre-50 'mage gear' are All Classes, meaning tanks (and DoW) can already glamour those on. And by separating into DoW/DoM, you're still giving tanks a greater share of glamour, since tanks can equip DoW gear (and thus glamour it), but DoW can't equip/glamour tank gear. And of course DoM get the short end of the stick once more. Yes, neither tank nor DoW can equip DoM things, but like I said, most DoM gear pre-50 is All Classes (aside from specific and dungeon gear). So both tanks and physical dps classes can look like mages. It's just mages that can't look like physical dps or tanks, and physical dps can't look like tanks.
I agree, however, that job-specific gear (i.e. AF1/jobquest, AF1b/myth and AF2/eso) should not be glamourable by other classes/jobs. But outside of that, what's the point of restricting it? The commonly used argument (even by SE) that 'tanks looking like mages' would 'confuse new players' is... pointless, since it can already be done (albeit not high-level or dungeon mage gear). And despite this, I don't see many threads by 'confused new players' demanding that pre-50 robes should be changed to 'DoM' instead of 'all classes'.
I do agree with the stipulation 'level a class/job to be able to glamour on its gear', and think it's reasonable, but I also think that could be more difficult to implement than to simply relax the restrictions (apart from weapon glamours).
I'm all for it. I'd love to be able to glamour whatever I wanted! I often play around with the dressing room and see what I could combine if it was allowed. :D. I've seen bikini wearing playboy bunny tanks and reindeer healers, plus the odd person who tries to look naked, why can't I glamour some bard stuff onto my blm?
Yep. Here is my AST:

I get people asking me all the time where I got plate armor that casters could wear.
I don't think the lack of cross-class glamour is as dire as some people make it out to be lol, but yes, it would be cool.
