Tho I wouldn't just limit it to tanks, basically EVERYTHING is always someone else's fault, you get used to it, something goes wrong and people shout out who is to blame even if what they say isn't actually what happened, or the problem, at all.
People prob see you are a bit undergeared and blame that, whether or not that actually is what caused things to go wrong is largely irrelevant, they will randomly pick something to be blamed. Just try not to get too disheartened, and remember they need you more than you need them :)

It is what happens, but not necessarily "how it works"... If it did work, then it would not be an issue :)
I maintain the view that other people's opinions are theirs to deal with. You don't have to agree with their opinions, or even mine for that matter...lol
Pinpointing an issue is the first step. Determining the best way to deal with it, is the step that follows. If you accept the issue as it is, then ok, but then complaining about it leads to just that - endless complaining with no solutions.

Bingo, a problem is only a problem as long as it can be solved. Otherwise you're trying to pass blame.

It is rough and you need the right attitude for it. I use to love tanking, now I only tank for friends when they need it..every now and then I'll step back out into the world with my g.axe but you have to have the right attitude for it, there are times where I'm timid about things and others...the tank comes out, which means you can tell me all you want how things are but in the end you have two choices accept the standards for the run as I've placed them or quit.

That makes it sound like I'm unreasonable, I will pull what I'm comfortable with. Being a healer I got an idea of the route the whm will go through but I also know just how powerful the moves are such as a Divine Seal + Regen / Medica II stack. I don't pull over the amount that I'm comfortable with. Another thing is that personally, I am in no rush I like to enjoy the atmosphere of the run and watching character movements in battle.

In primal battles, I'll do what I know should be done in terms of placement and try my best. There might be a mess up and things like that happen. I'll get up and do it again hopefully with better reaction time. Being told reasonable things to do in a run I don't mind.

I can't tank full time, it's a side job that I enjoy. Tanks do look the best in this game and their weapons, to me, look astounding. I wish I could tank the entire time, but I don't have the skin for it 24/7. It has made me much more protective of my tanks as a white mage. I'll let a BLM die if he decides to yell at a tank and try to pull more mobs ahead of the warrior or paladin. After that I will remind him that he's not the tank, if you want something tanked your way then jump on the job yourself.

I hope the OP continues to tank and get all the creative gear that can be equipped.

If dps are pulling early let them die. When I see a fresh 50 tank and I'm on ninja, I take it easy so that the tank doesn't have a hard time. Not all dps are going to be considerate so when that would happen to me I let them get pulverized.

It seems rough, but some people will only learn this way.

Some things to think on: 1. If they insist on pulling mobs you are not targeting, allow them to tank those mobs. 2. Pull what YOU are comfortable with. No matter how much they whine and complain, as the tank, YOU set the pace. Without you, they die. 3. Use target marks, especially when the dps outgears you by a significant margin.

It's so easy to blame the tank for everything that goes wrong. There are so many bad people out there, but many, many more good ones. Not everyone has 15 hours a day to spend on FF14, but keep plugging away, and it will come to ya.

Tanking a dungeon I hadn't done before the 1st time. Group couldn't passed 1st boss. I tried to learn the pulls they wanted done but they were overwhelming. After continual failure, and complains of my aggro ability which I tried to correct, I left.

Requed 25 minutes later. Not a single wipe, not one issue of aggro to complain about. I took full control of wtf I was comfortable with pulling and moved at my pace. The dungeon was piss easy when I took control.

What I'm saying is. Try to listen when people are showing you something, but if their shit doesn't work, sometimes it won't. Sometimes what they want requires more experience then you have at the time or gear that you won't obtain until later to do. Its fine to fail, thats how you learn but also know that as a tank when things will not resolve themself. 25 minutes and you're back in the dungeon. Always listen for advice, but you never have to take someones shit. Don't drop tanking, its a very rewarding play, stimulating and I feel you're always learning/improving. Just know when to take the punches and when to say "Well that's enough".

Playing devils advocate, sometimes it IS the tanks fault. You need to realize when it is your fault and solve the problem. Sometimes it's not the tanks fault and there's nothing you can do. It's the same with every role.

The only situation you should really lose threat is if dps are single targeting different mobs. Tanks shouldn't lose threat to AoE unless the ilvl difference is massive. Such as a tank in leveling gear that just dinged 50 and a black mage above ilvl100. If you're losing AoE threat to people realitively your ilvl, you're doing something wrong. If you're chain pulling but taking enough damage while running that you need to be healed, then when you're healed the mobs run over and eat your healer...you're doing something wrong.

I normally tank, so my experience with random tanks is very limited. The handful of times I've had random tanks the majority of them couldn't hold threat if their life depended on it. While it's no excuse to berate a player, especially one who isn't performing particularly poorly, I very clearly understand peoples frustration with tanks.

Honestly haven't really had issues to bad... and when I do have dps that refuse to back the heck off I let them tank... funnier when ya get a healer willing to work with ya to... let the dps die a few times till they get the idea to either leave or back off so ya can learn it. Also I highly suggest running low level dungeons to get the basics down such as threat and when ya feel best to use CD's... Threat as a PLD is a bit easier/harder if that makes sense... harder if ya get dps not willing to follow your marks (which you should be posting everytime ya grab a new set of mobs) easier in that it's easy as crap to tab target thru mobs, get a rotation going on one mob and right before rage of halone swap to a new target (if the other target is good on hate towards you) and hit the new target with Rage of Halone.

But really just flat out tell dps that refuse to follow marks to either kick you from the grp or they can tank the crap and you can just dps in their place then.

Hehe, this is actually funny if the tank is in full i90 gear (ilvl exactly at 90) as their HP will be 6622, which is really close to mine as WHM ^_^v But seriously, I know that myself and other healers actually kind of like healing newer tanks as they tend to go more slowly and carefully, as opposed to the i130 ones who think they can pull every single mob group up to the next gated area even with hardly any AoE dps or with dps in the 100-110 geared levels in expert dungeons. Slow and steady is always better than fast and dead...so tank at your own pace and remember that really it is the tank and healer who combined determine the pace of the dungeon -- if the dps give you grief, let them leave and get another instantly. I have a geared NIN, and I say that as both a dps and healer (have a tank too, but not that well geared >.>).

I only tank among friends. Not worth the trouble in pugs.

Holy, cant believe this thread kept going, but just an update: stopped caring bout negativity and just had fun with it. Do dungeons/raids at my own pace so I feel comfortable that I won't fuck up the run by pulling too much. Try to have a friend with me at all times if tanking new dungeon or raid I've never done before just to get some tips etc.

Life = better.
