I agree. I found Alph's indignant attitude frankly annoying. Easy for him to be critical when he's not responsible for an entire nation. Especially given Ishgard's prior "neutrality". Trying to sell your citizens and soldiers on being the bigger person would be very difficult to put it mildly.

Anyone else find it weird that they didnt show us any CS with Alisaie in it? We just heard from other people what she did?

but I know she gets a new outfit after FCoB,

so they probably don't want to spoil the end of the Coil story just yet. If she does show up in the expansion, though, we can assume then that the Coil storyline is being handled like the Culinarian quest. Maybe.

About the Nation Leaders

not intervening at the Party it's pretty much because they can't, this was another Nations matter.
It was pretty obvious that they REALLY wanted to though but it would have ended with a national Incident which they can't allow currently with the Empire breathing down their Neck ... which doesn't mean that they won't in the future

There is one thing that makes me think though ...

in the After Credits scene where the Sultanas former Handmaiden tells him everything is in order Lolorito did not look happy, if everything is in order why would he be unhappy? I do have some Ideas though ...

It was said that the "ambient aetheric energy" has decreased. Pure speculation, but I wonder if they're slowly activating Omega?

A civil war is coming to ul'dah it's not going to be good to him, he didn't manage to capture the WoL and he possibly acted too fast, he may have wanted to get his hands on Omega first ( or was it teledji that was looking for Omega ?) Anyway the future isn't bright for him.

The aether decrease was just Odin no ?

Wouldn't be so sure about Urianger. There is a LOT of double-speak. Look at the dialogue, carefully:

Urianger: I have answered thy summons, Emissary. Speak and make thine intent known.
Elidibus: I would speak of fate, Archon. Yours, mine─the fate of this very star.

And then consider the following:

• Elidibus in FF:T has the power to summon Zodiark.
• "Star" is very ambiguous. It can mean they are currently standing within/on a star (a literal darkstar's core or a dark crystal in the aetheric realm) and it can also relate to a handful of other things; one being ourselves. A literal "star in the darkness" (the "one remaining light") or the "star of the show".
• Moenbryda means "Moon Bride". Pitch black night, darkness and moons often share a very strong connection. Zodiark IS the darkness.

I'm sorry, but the sudden "suggestion" that we go to Ishgard when we have nothing left (where we have been shown by omniscient narrator a quite possibly possessed Holy See awaits us), added to the fact her all too-convenient absence and the heaped emphasis on number talent, the shady farewell and over-shoulder smirk, covert book-keeping and general wanton betrayal from all sides ... Tataru is looking guilty as all hells.

Square-Enix themselves specifically explained that cultural fact through story dialogue though, so it precludes any possibility they're now treating us as fellow inhabitants of Hydaelyn. Unless they forgot that they told us ...

To be fair, the only ones who have seen her "dead" are our characters, the handmaiden, Teledji and the handful of guards who arrived at the scene. Teledji proclaimed her "dead" without even taking a closer look, and "determined" that she was poisoned from a cup lying on the floor. Nobody at all took a closer look at the scene - naturally, because Teledji, the handmaiden and, most likely, that handful of guards, already knew this would happen - and as far as we know, no trustworthy person ever got to take a look at either the body or the poison. Raubahn went mad at the CLAIM that she was dead, he (and everybody else that we know of) was kept from seeing her body. It is very possible that she is alive.

Hell this whole thing is strange to begin with, the Monetarists already have all the power so a dramatic Powerplay like this seems incredible weird. yes they got the Sultana out of the way but in killing her they knew it would piss off every Sultana Loyal in Ul'Dah.
Honestly it seems like a plan to specifically harm the Scions and the WoL, while the Scions always avoided being controlled they never fought the Monetarists directly so this is really strange.
Also the Timing of the Dragon Attack, there is no way they could have planned that if they didn't know about it beforehand to get the Ishgardians out.

I'm pretty impressed over the direction Square decided to take with this. I was expecting some vanilla-as-hell ending that ends with us saving Ishgard to the point where they welcome us with open arms within their walls. I was nowhere NEAR expecting any of this. My mind is still struggling to comprehend it. It's amazing and horrifying to me at the same time.

Also, as a Gridanian, I'm disgusted with the direction that Merylwyb and Ken-E-Senna took. Raubahn has his god damned arm sliced off, and all they can do is watch over with horror as Ul'dah is over thrown, their friend mercileslly beaten, and the warrior of light thrown in chains while the scions are placed under arrest? What the hell?

They made a promise to Nanamo that they would ensure for Ul'dah's safety once Nanamo abdicated. And instead, what do they do? They high-tail it out of there. They say nothing, just promptly remove themselves as swiftly as possible. Not even a single declaration is made in their respective city-states that the Warrior of Light is innocent. No, instead they'll let the rumors fester while we clean up the mess.

I don't know who I'm fed up with more now, Ishgard for being a bunch of hypocrites or Gridania and Limsa for being a bunch of cowards.

If you talk to the faction Commanders they know you're innocent.

Swift: You doubtless burn to act─to see justice served. So do we all. However, we must bide our time, for a single misstep could trigger a civil war, and Ul'dah would tear itself apart.

Simply relaying messages to Grand Company faction leaders is not enough. PR is important when it comes to dealing with delicate politics such as these. My point is this - while they do have their own problems to deal with, they're essentially ignoring Nanamo's plea for their aid when they would need it the most and they're letting people of the city-states become corrupted by false accusations made by one single greedy lalafell.

Ul'dah has always been the one to bolster the other two when they need it most - the city-state agreed to aid Gridania despite getting almost nothing in return for it, especially considering the Lominsans were being greedy and only agreed to the alliance in the first place to receive compensation to bolster their arms.

Same during the Autumn War, where it also aided Gridania in repelling Ala Mhigan forces.

Despite all of this, I have to say, the interactions and politics between the city-states and the geopolitical nature of everything is one of the most fascinating aspects of the game.

All of them will call for us again when Titan Landslide everyone in limsa to the sea and being eating by leviathan. Garuda spawn plume every corner in Gridania while Ramuh getting mad that even WOL can be easily taking down by this.

After everything that's happened, I'll be happy to answer the call of both, Gridania and Limsa Lominsa.
Ul'dah though, if Ifrit or some other primal attacks, I'll be happy to sit back and watch them burn (who wants roasted monetarists?).

Its actuly more complicated than the other city states not doing anything Nanamo involved them in her plan what she intends to do and asks them to help Raban once it happens to keep order.

But once she was killed that plan died with her with no ruler to disband the syndicate the rich elit are free to rule. To step in right now with just he said she said as justification to take them down from power would just result in a war with the lower classes not knowing any better. And yes the evidence that the monetarist is false but it's still he said she said but they have their physical evidence to back up their claim.

Also don't forget Ishgard is at a turning point in their war with the dragons Garmald is regaining their forces for another attempted conquest of Erozea you tear Ul dah up with a war mind as well put up a giant sign saying.

HEY LOOK WE GOT BIG PROBLEMS GOING ON OVER HERE WER WEAK ATTACK HERE.

the only way it will be resolved with out the stuff above happening is if they get evidence or turn a person who's part in the conspiracy.

Ugh, I had hoped that Ilberd wasn't one of the traitors, but I guess my jealousy theory was right after all. Yuyuase's betrayal wasn't much of a surprise, wouldn't stop talking about coin each time he breathed.

Overall, very good story development.

That place where the Ascians gathered....their wording makes me think it's not Ishgard, due to how they referred to the Northlands as though they weren't there yet. I wonder if it could be under Ul'dah? It does resemble the gaol that Raubahn was in.

Also....why didn't Nidhogg show up at the siege? I thought it was rather strange at the time, like he might be related somehow to the unfolding plot with the Crystal Braves. Then again, I was disappointed no Dark Knights, Astrologians, or Machinists were showcased at the Steps of Faith.

I'm not really happy with anything the GC leaders have done this patch. First, declaring that their national borders being secure now is more important than keeping a renewed Garlean threat from seizing Coerthas, then insultingly acting like they made a grand contribution to the defence, then those two leaving without comment during the coup. The only worthwhile thing I saw any of them do was when Raubahn finally lost it and killed one scheming bastard and trying to kill another.

Meanwhile, I'm still trying to piece together Minfilia and Urianger's actions. . .

For Tataru, is it possible that when she said that we'd never meet again that she was in on the plot and thought we'd be executed in uldah? Her smiles are awfully suspicious...

Also, was Laurentius one of the betrayers? I only saw Yuyuhase and Illberd as ones I recognize. Was Alianne one of the betrayers? She wrote the note that made you go to drybone, as indicated by Momodi. Was Alianne part of Yuyuhase's team? I thought Alianne was on our side, and started to notice fishy things like Riol did, since one of the quests had this text: "Although Alianne struggles to accept that the single crate is the entirety of the shipment, Yuyuhase dismisses the discrepancy as Riol's failure". Wilfred was also on Alianne's team (4th).

Two options I see for Alianne. One is that she was reluctantly in on it. I trust Momodi to know when someone's being torn up about something, so if she was in on it I think it was weighing on her. Alternately, and what I personally think, she genuinely wanted to meet us, perhaps foreseeing the coming storm, but was waylaid by the traitors.

Edit: After re-reading the journal, Riol says that he has evidence that the 1st and 3rd were in on the plot. Alianne was with the 4th, so maybe her hand was forced. It's hard to believe she would betray us since we saved her ass a few times.

As for other Tataru things, what about the blood pearl pendants she made for companions to make sure that they "always come home"? Because of that, I think the scions didn't die or will be revived somehow.

Laurentius was there. He was the one that greeted you when you went to search for Alianne. When you left, he did an omnimous look and contacted someone. Later on, he appear next to Ilberd when they declared you the assassin. Alianne was a member of the 4th. Yuyuhase was of the 3rd.

As a Gridanian, I feel very similar. I didn't think it would be in Kan-E's character to haphazardly throw some Conjurer spells around in that moment, but to walk away entirely...very mixed feeling about it. Still, I know both her and Mer were outnumbered largely and they just saw the Charging Bull disabled...I can't imagine them jumping into the fray especially when they kept mentioning their own countries coming first from that conversation.


And speaking about that conversation, it made be wonder why Gridania is even bothering with the territory battle outside the twelveswood at all. 'We don't want to send help cause then that lalafell jerk is gonna take the territories.' Kan-E, girl, Gridania is the closest city state to Ishgard. If the shiz is about the hit the fan up there, Gridania may be next. I was shocked we weren't on board with that defense.

Overall very happy with the direction of the story though. Very much looking forward to what Heavensward will bring.

Moose, I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the quest that had us escorting that scholar. The readings he was getting all around South Shroud had him in a panic as something looks to be draining the aether there. I don't think a quest like that was random filler JUST to discover Wilred... I feel they were hinting at something there.

I was considering the possibility that Hydaelyn may have drained a large amount of aether from Eorzea in order to recover her strength. It would coincide well with her sudden message to Minfillia.

I think both Kan-E and Merylwyb were being smart at the "celebration". They did seem like they wanted to do something to help the Scions (and the dialog with the GCs afterwards seems to reinforce that), but *knew* they either could not do anything meaningful or anything they did besides leave would only make things worse; if they did something, its highly likely they would have been arrested or killed right there, leaving their own homes in chaos. Even saying something could have made things really bad for them. Leaving ASAP was the best course of action.
What really surprised me about this part was...there really *was* a Dravanian attack going on at that point. I was so sure that those Temple Knights were just more traitors...and it turns out they really were there to get their commander back home.

I'm also wondering about this...I would expect Momodi to have some idea what could have been in that bottle. That she had no idea means one of a few things to me: the liquid was so rare that she couldn't recognize it (or...maybe wasn't a poison after all...), it wasn't actually the bottle used to hold the poison (which then leads to Alainne possibly being a traitor too, planting the bottle on you to be claimed to be the assassination weapon later.), or she was possibly in on this as well. Personally, I think she just really didn't know what was in it (or didn't really look, knowing you were *really* pressed for time now) and thought you'd see Alainne to ask her soon.
As an aside...I am suspicious of Tataru. Not quite the same "ok, the Crystal Braves are BAD news" suspicion of 2.3, but still. Things aren't adding up with her and it can't be just coincidence that she was the only one to get out of the Rising Stones alive at this point...

Also...why did we get arrested so...quietly? I'm sure we would have known that we wouldn't be just sitting in a gaol waiting to be rescued, we'd be executed as soon as possible to make sure we couldn't let the truth get out or get rescued and really oppose them. Even the random Crystal Brave in Mor Dhona is terrified of you...why couldn't we have fought until subdued? We just killed an enormous dragon...what is a few random soldiers to me?


As for the aid to Ishgard earlier...well, if I were being petitioned aid from someone who has completely ignored me when I really could have used their help only recently, besides all the other isolationist stuff they've been doing...I'd be reluctant to send more aid than a token force as well. When Merylwyb said her city comes first, then the alliance, then everyone else...she's being 100% right. They all need to look after their own first, then their friends, then everyone else. And with them being besieged by beastmen and Garleans even now, on top of their own individual issues...helping someone who refused to help you isn't a priority.

I was thinking it may have to do with Middy; after all, he is "drinking of her body" to make a new one for himself.

Stayed up late to watch all the cutscenes last night and I'm still processing them really. That we're all talking about it and discussing the ramifications is an awesome achievement, so well done on the storytelling, Square-Enix.

There was one point I saw it began to unravel and then it just went downhill from there.

Raubahn entrusting Ul'dah's security to the Brass Blades. Talk about handing the lamb over to the wolves. What was he expecting to happen, really? I believe there must have been another force at work because surely he wouldn't have been so short-sighted; not where the sultana's safety is concerned. And the first thing I said when Nanamo told us she was abdicating, "Well, you're dead." Sure enough, that got fulfilled pretty quickly.

Certain characters' actions I am not surprised at whatsoever. Laurentius is one of them. But the person you really have to feel for is Alphinaud. He was so desperate to save Eorzea in his grandsire's honour, yet lost sight of the one irrefutable fact: people will always betray you. No matter what you do for them or how many chances at redemption you offer, there are some individuals for whom that is never enough. They will always take the easy or profitable way out. You can never counter-balance their flaws with your good intentions; no matter how pure your heart.

Pretty much everything Alphinaud did was to help the realm and it shattered into dust around him. He worked tirelessly to "fix" Eorzea and aid its people, but it backfired on him in spectacular fashion. Almost everyone had abandoned him towards the end; the alliances he'd forged, his Crystal Braves corrupted, Kan-E-Senna and Merlwyb bailed, avarice ruling benevolence and people he trusted had turned on him. We can only hope the betrayal will forge his spirit into something even stronger.

Alphinaud: "I wanted to save Eorzea but, in the end, it was I who needed saving." :(

It was interesting to see the story literally come full-circle too. Not so much for we legacy characters, but if you'd started in A Realm Reborn, you'd have entered your city in that same chocobo carriage with one of Brennan's siblings and the Levelliuer twins. By the cumulation of Ul'dah's events, that's how you exit, albeit it with a missing Alisae and new, unexpected ally. Time will tell what the future holds for us...

One thing I remembered was that Gridania technically owes a dept to Ishgard when Ala mhigo invaded them. seems they forgot about that when being asked to return the favor.

Thal's Balls, Laurentius. Of all the people I want someone to hold down so I can repeatedly kick them in the head, it's him.

I really loved that they subverted the "good guy goes bad due to circumstances, he'll make good again given a second chance" trope. NOPE, he's just an arsehole.

I also really loved how badly Alphinaud's over-confidence crashes everything down around him. He is tactically brilliant but he's also, what, 17? I'm sure this will all be a godsdamned learning experience for him and he'll be far more cautious going forward, I just like that we're seeing him grow into the man who, in three or four patches, is going to lead us in taking the war to the Empire.

So, I took about a year off and came back in January - got all caught up with the story before this patch landed and blitzed through 2.55 yesterday.

My feeling is that Roalie wasn't entirely a red herring. Is it possible that her betrayal was face value and that the Crystal Braves/Teledji made use of this convenience to get you and the scions on side? Being caught in the company of imperials and staging that battle within sight of Castrum Meridianum seems just a touch out of their league. Furthermore, Lolorito and Teledji look to have been in pretty obvious cahoots - appearing opposed in public, but Ilberd stood between Raubhan and Lolorito without question. Teledji's fall just altered his reporting line rather than shifting his allegiance.

Yeah, I wanted give Laurentius the benefit of the doubt, but even after he joined the Crystal Braves, I never trusted him. Trust has to be earned.

I'm sad about Wilred, and I hope that Alianne is still alive and of sound mind. I have faith that Riol is still safe just because he's so independent.

All of this said, my #1 hope for Heavensward is just to be able to put the fallen Crystal Braves in their place. Lolorito should get his as well, if he was truly the mastermind. I want them to pay for what happened to Nanamo.

They are barely involved into the heretic activity

They needed the additional rights to get the key positions in Ul'Dah befora ll begins. And that was the way to get it done. I'm mostly shure, the dragon attack also was part of the big plan.

I think the reason is twofold. One part is probably because there's a difference between how the Warrior of Light (WoL) is depicted in the story and how the WoL acts as part of the game. In the story, the WoL is very agreeable most of the time (to facilitate accepting random quests etc) and seems to lean towards the archetypical good-guy/run-of-the-mill protagonist that are so very common in JRPGs. For such a character, going on a bloody rampage through the royal chambers against what is basically the police seems a bit... out of character in lack of a better description.

In the game, the player can pretend whatever fit their fancy. The WoL can in their eyes be some cute Dunesfolk potato that spends all her time in the garden or a grizzled warrior that takes no prisoners no matter what. But in the end that's not the character that acts in the MSQ.

Second I think is that fighting back would throw even more suspicion on the WoL in the eyes of a third party (such as the commoners). Especially if this third party is just fed the information the Monetarists want to leak out. At the same time, the WoL don't know what's going on with the rest of the Scions, so fighting might put the lot of them in more trouble. It's not like they called for an execution on the spot, so maybe the WoL decided that seeing how things turn out would be the best course of action.

Finally, about that dragon. As I recall the trial, most of the damage came from Ishgardian cannons, Dragonkiller rigs, magic snares and piles of explosive barrels. Without the help of other adventurers, magic tools and preparation the WoL would be ill suited to take on the entire castle.

That Crystal Brave in RT however - I'm pretty sure the WoL can punch that sucker to the ground with one hit.

I still doubt it. All we know is that the commander got back. We don't know if he had to slay the knights that were supposedly escorting him(my first insticts were these are from lady iceheart and that hasn't quieted down).

Other thing is... the moment I saw the handmaiden with the cup putting something away I knew what was about to happen.

While some people seem saddened/infuriated by the reactions of the other leaders the way I see it: you are a guest of another city state that is having it's own internal affairs - it is not your place to meddle in the affairs of their state. For me if anything the respect for both leaders grew at that point; their bodyguards understood that - which is why they got reminded about it.

But yeah I expected the Admiral to pull a gun on the 'lil bastards.

If as someone mentioned Pipin is revealed as an Ul'dan prince I expect they will lend him all the aid they can when needed.
