rather than say "can't do anything about them," perhaps you meant "no one has yet thought up a legal and definitive way of enforcing them yet."
with that being said, does anyone have any creative ideas on how to address the issue at hand?

Anyone complaining about Bots/RMT in this game clearly never played Aion. There were obvious bots in pretty much every area and RMT were spam shouting in every major city. I know they eventually did something about it but was after I quit (8+ months after release). It would have been so easy to catch these bots/RMT that a GM could have caught them all by simply logging in and doing a tour of the map once.
how can you legitimately prove in the court of law that they were bots? excuses such as: "i let my children play and turn the chatlog off," are common. ideas?
can they really? there's no legal repercussion a customer can decide on if wrongfully accused?
>.>
well then...perhaps server population is so low, SE can't afford to ban botters? (lol)
pro-tip: most FFXI bots had hook files that were easily tracked...most FFXIV bots are either pixel bots (legally undetectable) or just packet readers without hook files (not legally trackable)
SE can't do anything. They can try, but there is nothing they can do. Go QQ some more, kiddies.
cool, thanks for the replies, guys. at least i sort of know that something can be sort of done. haha.
FFXIV has had a special task force for some time, though the form for submitting reports is hidden behind several links, and the form itself isn't even on the lodestone.
You can find the contact form for the Special Task Force at the bottom of this page.
A number of the craft and farm bots I've seen have disappeared a week or two after the first report.
In the case of leve running bots, be sure to mention the time you saw them running leves, and the actual player leading the group (this would be the character who runs off and actually does the leve, the lalafell stay behind to collect the gil)
Coincidentally on Figaro its 'Fig' instead of 'Bes' in case anyone else wants to keep an eye out for them. It seems the botters use the first 3 letters of the server they are working on as a label.
I saw the title of this thread, and I thought of Snakes on a Plane.
"Enough is enough! I'm tired of these [censored] bots in my [censored] game! Everyone strap in! I'm about to throw down some banhammers!"
Bots are a problem and many players blantently say in game they are using one. Youre going to keep seeing people complain until XIV has actions taken to show they care.
tbh i dont care about bot's they dont bother me or get in my way. i am sick of all the broke players moaning that some players have tons of gil and that there is to much gil in the game, maybe you should have lvled faster? i got lucky in respects that i was in one of the first LS's to do FNM's on our server and made a shit ton of gil from selling bucc and templar stuff, not everyone with loads of gil cheated to get it :)
as for RMT parties, c'mon if you need to buy gil in this game you have issues, its easy to make.
EDIT: Wrong person. Meant to target Dubont.
Why is it everytime there is a thread about bots, you practically defend them?
Square, send your GM police to have a look at her Vack--er whatever your name is
On another note, I don't get why it's ok to multibox. You have 8 of you own characters at the same time getting all this gil.. doesn't that lead to RMT? I mean it pretty much does.
I wish I had a Forum Bot to read this thread for me.
Lol this is just like when I bash trolls and then people swoop in to defend trolls and attack me. Like wtf? Haha.
That's a pretty idiotic thought imho. There are no 'good' botters and 'bad' botters... Just botters. It doesn't matter what you use it for, they provide a clearcut unfair advantage over legit players, and are against the terms of service. People who use bots should know better than to try to defend it... They know exactly what they're doing, and they know it's wrong, but they do it anyway. I'm sure most of them will get banned eventually once the ban waves start, as that's pretty much always how it goes with these games... But, of course, some won't, and there'll always be new bots right up until the day the servers go down for good.
Like, if you wanna stay neutral about them and just don't care if other people bot, good for you. But anyone who defends botting is either an idiot or, surprise, botting, lol. If you don't like the game enough to play it, and have to use a bot, you should just move on to some other game.
This game is different from other mmo's in that you're not supposed to cap everything in a week. That doesn't mean cap everything ASAP by any means necessary, i.e. botting... That means take your damn time, enjoy the game, and things will lvl gradually over time. Again, if you want instant gratification and quick easy leveling, there's plenty of other reward button games out there to pick from.
Anyways, personally, I hope SE doesn't ban the bots one at a time... Would be better to lull them into a false sense of security, and compile a nice big list of everyone who has used a bot... Then, like a week before the PS3 launch or big expansion/patch, permaban them all, lol. If you do it too soon, then they don't miss out on much, and will just buy another copy of the game and resume botting, and be capped again before the next patch.
Would be interesting to see what Yoshi has to say on this subject after his 'It's ok to cheat stance' regarding power levelling...
Actually his point is dead on, his point wasnt idiotic either considering its the truth, your assumption that bots can 'Cap you in a week' is an interesting theory indeed, you could what, get a craft to 50? Big deal, people have botted across all games since the beginning of games, not even bots, im referring to cheating, Single player games to now MMOs, most gamers dont want to deal with staring at a screen forever for an objective they want to complete, so they bot to get it done faster. Is this right? No, but is it wrong? No, its a gamer's choice on how they wish to play a game. Even if it against ToS of the game people will always bot, bot makers will always make bots once their previous bots are found and disabled, this is even the reality of the 9 year old final fantasy XI at the moment, it will never change, threads like this are seriously old, over wrote, and ridiculous, if you are worried about RMT corrupting this game as it did FFXI during its beginning, remember this, RMT dont farm gil if you dont buy it~ Enough said, end of story, i.e. its the players fault for indulgeing in the easy way of getting things done, as i said earlier, its a gamers choice how they wish to experience a game.
Hello-o? Did your brain wake up already today?Quote:
No, but is it wrong? No, its a gamer's choice on how they wish to play a game.
This is not some off-line single-player puzzle game.
All players in a MMO are connected, so what the one does always
directly or indirectly affects the other.
Depends on how botters use their cheated ranks, if they keep to themselves and rarely spend gil the impact as an individual botter is almost no consequence given the huge amount of obtainable gil straight from the environment. However take 100-200 bots that is a significant impact.
In the case of a fish bot, where they are most likely mass producing crystals to their ends. If they straight up sell every crystal they make because they dont craft, that has a huge impact on how much gil exchanges between players, this is making the most of being a cheater.
On the other hand a fish bot that keeps all their fish and crystals to use for their own crafting. Has a reduced impact on the way ffxiv exchanges work. However having an abundant source of crystals allows them to craft with one less supply restriction, allowing for more ranks faster. When there are more high ranked crafters, prices of goods generally go down. However we only see price drops on highly sought after items such as "final pieces" while rank 10-39 gear prices is higher than ever before (this is the problem with itemization with almost no level restrictions which is a whole different topic).
One could say the only way the relationship between crafters and combat classes is favorable because of botters. While it is depressing on an individual level, on the grand scale, "final piece" goods are only this cheap and in huge supply because of the effort of crafting bots and fish bots.
However bots are bad and must be purified with Ifrit's flame.
Someone said something about bots... so I am putting this right here :D!

Next they will be farming us!
There's really no two ways about it. If you ever used a bot you are a cheater and deserve to be banned, regardless of your reasons (rules of the game). If i cheat at poker but make sure i don't win too much it doesn't mean it's okay to cheat, it just means i'm good at cheating.
People need to stop kidding themselves that it's okay to bot because it's their choice. You agreed to SE's rules when you installed the game and/or created an account with them.
It's against the ToS. In general it is seen as negative (cheating) by most people in a game's community. Excessive botting can ruin a game, causing the legit playerbase to leave. Not to mention the fact that those who bot to 50 have absolutely no idea how to play their class generally. All of it adds up to poor players, a poor economy and poor state of the game.
Let's set things straight. SE will not do anything regarding bots and cheaters. Period. That is until the PS3 release is out and FFXIV has a large enough and stable population. Then and only then will SE do something about it.
You think they would ban a big chunk of the tiny population we got now?
Sadly it's too late for SE to take action now. Everyone who botted heavily has all classes at 50 now or is close. The only people banned now would be those who bot but not very often.
