The big oversized things should just have wrist wraps and a handle inside like they actually do. Smaller designs can be handles with a wide grip area, but the oversized junk in this game requires some type of brace along the forearm to stay steady.

I agree, as it is MNK's weapons are mostly ugly due to these handles plus the way these handles are put on the weapons would break its user wrist since it doesn't reinforce it plus the weapon's balance isn't good at all in most cases it feels like MNKs are using "funky" buckets to fight instead of fist weapons. Izsha picture is a rather good example of how those weapons should be made to be wielded.
Yeah, I would definitely like them to rethink Monk weapons. They are supposed to be blunt damage but many of them have piercing looks instead. Also, anybody attempting to use a weapon with handles like that would immediately break their wrist. Personally I'd say hora type weapons are the best fitting that there are currently.
I understand that it probably has to do with the models and animations, but I think that they can do something different.

Both types are designed to be swung rather than punched with. Weapons such as the Cesti are percussion weapons, whilst the Claws are slashing and cutting etc. You notice of course that the claws have only one side of the claw as a blade with some having the additional hook/claw on the end.
To fit this, the Pgl/Mnk animations would have been more in keeping with these weapons if they had been similar to the Ninja as they are now.
if we don't get other blunt looking weapons why not change our damage to slashing/piercing? lol

=_= this so much. I've been hoping that they'll cave and give us an emperor's new fist to hide our fist weapons because of how bad they look. Even the first few weapons that actually look like blunt weapons just float over your character's knuckles. However, what I've considered to be a major reason for why they float so bad is due to making the weapon fit with possible gauntlet design. Since gauntlets can get close to filling in the space they'd rather not have clipping issues. That or its just easier over all to make them like this.
Even though I would love for them to go back to a more blunt look for our weapons, the crescent moon knives used in baguazhang would be a decent design they could use while keeping that spaced out weapon look.

Still one of my favorite monk weapons, though it doesn't look like it should deal blunt damage at all.
The problem is all the weapons were designed as modified Cesti. You know those knuckle things you get at level one? Yeah they're all based on that with a fancier punching end.
I actually just pulled the regular version of those out and saw that between them and Titans some do fit more appropriately. Alas, very few look like blunt damage.
I'd like to take this time to thank SE for rectifying this issue, at least with all the MNK weapons I've seen *so far* in the expansion.
It almost makes up for the chakra system (and tornado kick) being terrible. Almost.

It's funny that people even noticed that. I was too busy being bothered by the fact that monks are doing swan poses and shit to attack, when most of their go to attacks should look more like bootshine.
At least the new ilvl180 claw and hive fists look pretty neat as you can't see the handles which is probably what all the fist weapons should look like. The Nexus fists also looks nice enough as a glamour piece as it too doesn't have that annoying handle and has cool rune animations around it. But I do agree that those handles shouldn't be a thing. Maybe more gloves or claws.
It's a shame that Monks don't use the Knuckle Gloves that the Gigas Sluggers fight with.

I was actually expecting these to be Gold saucer prizes instead of the Claw weapons they stuck in there.
Should have gauntlets that completely replace a monk's arm gear. They should be slightly bigger than the normal gloves.
Like DMC3 beowulfs. Or whatever they are called in DMC4.
Oh wow, I've always thought I loved monk weapons at first glance -- but I never noticed the little handle thing. That looks really off. o__0
the monk weapon are soo bad in many way, a lot of them are more assassin weapon than trully monk weapon, but i digress. the handly is the worst part of the monk weapon, i don't know how the monk can pull any strenght with this. more important, why for god sake, don't we already have an invisible weapon for glamour...
by the way, a lot of the heavensward weapon are ugly :x the pata are a good example of what a monk weapon must'nt be.
It's not just the handle that should be removed it is all of the pugilist/monk weapons that should be reworked they all look either unfit to be used or incompatible with the type of damage monks are supposed to be doing...

Would love to see some less obnoxious monk weapons. Like Tifas gloves, as has been suggested multiple times.
Worse is looking at how things like the Hellish Claws look like when you punch.
The motion follows your hand, not the weapon.
The handles are so far extended that you punch and the weapon is above your fist, breaking your wrists.
I don't really care if people hold things weirdly to look cool in a video game.
But it would look cooler if the weapons fit your hands since all the fighting animations are based on your character's fists.
I have to say that I would love for some ancient-style cestus and battle glove options, and a bare-fisted glamour would be awesome too. Not many monk weapons look particularly great. :T

My monk lvl 52 use the lvl 1 goldsmith knuckle since i start this class 'cause of how ugly are all the other appearances ! it's very expensive in mirage crystals !
Just make monk weapons look like over-gauntlets.
I don't think the whole "looks like slashing, does blunt" is that big of a deal. I mean, is there really too many situations where the difference between slashing and blunt damage is notable to the point where SE couldn't just remove it?
But more on topic, I'm not a fan of how far away the weapons are either, I really wish they were closer to the hands and didn't look so awkward! At least Fists Of Crag look nice imo.

I want to be able to punch monsters with our fists like Tifa from FFVII. Not only will this make it more immersive/lore-friendly. It also feels good to be grinding monsters into nothingness with our bare fists. Nothing like feeling the thrill of the battle with our body and not with some grubby and probably unpractical katar looking fists with handles and whatnot.
I would prefer that they added "Destroyers" from XI, by far the simplest and best looking design for a blunt h2h weapon that fits closely in relation to your hand. As long as they dont put handles on handles to exstend it to the XIV positioning.
