You shouldn't be calling people, who have a better grasp of the matter in question than you do, kids. Luck does play a role no doubt, but skill is much more important than you make it out to be.

I don't think that, you are the one coming up with such a scenario, trying to save your untenable assertion. And even then it depends on the item you could and so on. Still: these are banal decisions on a very low skill level, others parts of chocobo race got a much bigger impact. End of discussion.

Let's stop calling each other names and debate this logically, there's both skill factor and luck factor to chocobo racing.

Knowing when to decelerate to nuke other players when you get a meteor/brair when you are leading, using sprint simultaneously with the player in front of you after casting brair to bleed them dry when they thought they are safe after sprinting is called skill.

Getting nuked by 4 back-to-back meteors in a single race when you don't have any hero tonic, stamina tablet or any other items/abilities that can save your feathery ass is call bad luck. (It happened to me twice, along with ~5 double back-to-back meteors, no amount of skill can save you from that)

The issue is with the balance between the luck/skill ratio. In other racing game like mario kart/bomberman racing, the leading player/npc tend to get crappy item like banana skin (aka gravity ball/bacchus water) and blue shell (meteor) are usually reserved solely for 7th/8th place, along with things like how overpower brair is for an aoe item that spawns pretty often.

Then again, this is a mini-game instead of a full fledged racing game, so we should cut SE some slack. I'm actually pretty grateful they actually implemented this, though it could really use tons of tweaking.

On a side note, can we please get an adjustment on the chocobo items? Namely the training manuals, the price is outright atrocious. (like my writing :p)

Also, please, please, please, for the love of hydaelyn, make the chocobo racing mask dyeable.

You'll be glad to know that the R180 races consist of courses that are FILLED to the brim with obstacles. Boxes that are jump-boxes, placed at a faraway position (taking it means you'll be taking a longer route). Heck, a few are so devilishly placed: One is placed right before a Malboro, another jump-box placed right above a boost pad (which means if you jump to take the box, you would have jump and missed boost). Unfortunately you won't be seeing these until your Chocobo's Pedigree is 7 and above.

I can't imagine how the higher races are like. There's a lot more skill involved now (R180+), it's exciting.

Haven't reach R180 yet, but I saw something similar to what you describe at R...100 or 120? I used to play speed run in crash bandicoot, so I would like to believe I'm prepared for it, but I get the point that you are trying to bring across.

However, it still doesn't change the fact that the skill/luck ratio is off balance as compared to other racing games of similar gene. Your skills can't do much if the leading player kept getting sprint or you getting nuked by multiple choco meteors in a row. Though I must say the skill factor is larger than what robin made it out to be.

Yeah I get what you mean Soki. I don't think they implemented a rubber-banding solution for people in last place to catch up. I don't understand the logic behind putting multiple meteors in the same box, or in the same race for that matter.

Also, SE designed the NPC AIs to get you. I encountered this on 2 separate occasions: I was in 2nd place and the NPC in front of me (let's call this NPC Tom) is holding onto a Heavy Powerup. Because of Lizard/Malboro AOEs hitting us at the same time, the both of us get slowed down. 2-3 NPC racers then start to overtake me and Tom. Tom DOES NOT use his Heavy on them, and uses it on me instead as I overtook him. It's as if it was targetting me as priority instead of the other NPC racers. They're that NASTY!

And oh yes every race in these brackets has at least an NPC who has Choco Steal, sometimes two. The amount of left-right movements you make are so much that Cunning starts becoming a useful stat.

I don't attack other players (at least not with stamina drains), I just dodge their aggression, if possible.

I adore your luck. I got those multiple meteor hits dozens of times. Did not ruin every race, though, sometimes it even saves you, when your own stamina is low and it also crushes that of others.

They like to work together, sometimes, yes. For example I were on third position, the one in front of me got a slow, but didn't use it on the first, instead waited for me. Did not help him, but was just this second enough to let the first guy win.

Think something like that could help many people. Also it would be nice, if there was some way to have more than one chocobo. It sucks a bit, if you have to retire yours to breed it, this breeding fails miserably and then you stay there, with no chocobo or you have to use this * * * * ** one and dismiss it (they are always so sad, when you do this ;( )

Would also be great to know before you register them, what stats and best weather they got.

TIPP for the panels:
Better jump earlier. You will get hit if you jump right before them, but won't if you land on them (in general). But of course, this may differ with your connection, have to try yourself. Normally I got zero lag (as I can see at dodging AoEs), but Chocobo Race is... different. But it's always like this, so maybe it's no real lag, just... strange.

Personally find most of them rather easy except the breath + chest combo since you can't do a 0-100-0 instant acceleration/break maneuver. As for the cobyln combo, you can run right beside their leg so long you don't hit the crystal body. However, do take note that npcs can and will kamikaze into them sometimes just to drag you down.

Strongly agreed, the way the exp scales and forcing you to repeat the lower rating with only 3 course available is really dry and get boring really fast. I honestly hope they will consider reducing the exp scales or increase the stats earned per level so we can move on to the higher ratings at a faster pace. I can't remember where I read it, but I believe there's positive official reply to a weekly golden saucer challenge log. Hopefully it include racing chocobo's exp.

Lol? but I'm the one getting nuked by meteors though? Unless you're implying I'm not getting nuke enough, which I would then recommend you to take a short break when you're really down on luck. And even though I mentioned a couple of times regarding multiple back-to-back meteors, anything past the second one is just for laugh at the bad luck really. ^^;

Always assume everything is slightly closer to you than it appears on your screen, chest, panels, other chocobo's feathery ass, you get the idea.
