Reason why i make alts when i'm looking for change. My miqo'te is my special girl so i just start over when the expansion hits
True, the only problem with that is that you can't see what your character looks like in all of your existing gear beforehand. Prior to using the fantasia I spent a long time (too long) working on a hyur but when I logged in and tried on all my gearsets it just didn't look right.
It's jarring enough if I change my hairstyle. I don't think I could do that to King, changing her race.
If I want to play around with races, I have retainers for that.
I guess I got lucky because I am 1000% satisfied with the character I created and couldn't imagine changing her looks. In most games I end up going back and tweaking things later (if the game allows it). I haven't even changed her hairstyle yet, though I may change her to the Rush Sykes hair on Tuesday. :)
Man, Riaa's been the same so long I'm honestly scared to change her. Tried to give her a haircut a week or so ago and everything just looked.... weird. She's basicly me now, so I'd probably have a crisis if she changed until I remembered I have a extra fantasia. :p
That said, I might try Au'ra when they show up, but it's more likely I'll roll a alt instead. ;) What's one more, after all?
I've used like 23 fantasias and my character right now looks exactly like she did when I made her in beta. Different hair color, though! I have a problem :(
I did. When I changed from midlander male to highlander male. But not because of the looks, it was because of the running pace. I know all races need to run at equal pace for game balance, but it just bugs me to no end that bigger bodies run at the same pace, making it feel like they're walking on the moon or something. For the same reason I deleted my Roegadyn after playing it for only about 6 hours.
Thankfully it was the Fantasia I got for pre-ordering, so it didn't really cost me a lot.
Personally I think Fantasia is cheap enough for say a change every half year or so, but changing races without a name change bugs me too...
And this is why I have a miqo'te and a lalafell ;p
wrong thread - sorry
Yeah I changed to a lala with the waifu of the time and we lasted at most 2 hours lol.
I know that feeling, still got all the fantasia the game ever gave me from preorders or whatever but i could never use it, my wife swiched from Aura to Lala... while i admit their way more vivid and cute animation ake fun, id never do that... there are like 2 things id consider using one, which is a) more different scale patterns, so i dont look like EVERY Aura out there or b) larger boobs xD
And id only swich my hair if they would finally give us longer versions... there are mods out there, but still, if its only for me, its pointless... at least for me.
There is less than zero reason to use Fantasia to change hair.
1) Aesthetician is readily available for almost free.
2) Aesthetician have all the hair from character creation, plus all the hair you unlocked in-game. When changing characters look through Fantasia you do NOT get all the hair.
I always make a new character and play it a bit to check if appearance is ok.
After everything is good, save appearance and then apply to the fantasia character. No regrets at all.
That was in Context to what Canadane said about having a hard time even doing that xD
-My point being i dont really wanna change "me", like i never change my hair or its color irl either.
But there are ppl who do that all the time, i got that women in my Fc who uses like 5 fantasia a week if she feels like it.
I caved and recently bought 3 more fantasia (went a year and a half I believe without buying any). I tend to go between male roe and female au ra though. However, IRL, I used to have my hair colour quite radical (red highlights, etc), and would change fairly often (at one point it was blue highlights for example). I haven't done that in ages though, not because I didn't want to, but because jobs didn't let me (I had a job where your hair had toi be a certain length with only like 5cm either way, it had to be your natural hair colour, etc, very strict). Although I've since dropped outta that job, I haven't gotten back into making my hair nice again (although I have considered it).
I always make a new character to test new appearances. My problem was being stuck between two looks I really really liked. Can't stop flitting between them. xD
So both looked solid on the test alt, but. Decisions are hard. : (
I change my hair daily xD. Sometimes even multiple times per day depending on the job I am playing because one hairstyle doesn't go with all my glamours. I made a thread a little ways back requesting that hairstyles be tied to a glamour plate, or at least be able to view all of glamour plates while with the aesthetician. If you don't mind the 2k a pop, he is always an option, and you can always go back. Unlike with a Fantasia.
I did use the same hairstyle for the longest time, but once I got into glamour plates and made that first change, those days were over.
I once got a hairstyle change and it was too much.
Holy necrothread, Batman!
I've only fantasia'd once, and I don't regret it. I highly recommend creating your new look and starting it up as a new character (on a different server, if you have the base account). The character creator is very good at showing you what you're going to get, but nothing beats actually moving around in-game. Also, if you care about your voice at all, run through all of your emotes. Some of the sounds your character will make might sound totally different from what you expected, based on the samples in the character creator.
I hate being an addict!

I'm on the "couldn't possibly change my character's appearance" way of thinking. I like multiple character designs but I'd rather create alts (currently I have three) so they remain separate characters with their own names and personalities - and also glamours. Some of them have quite different taste in clothes! Plus I can log in as any of them any time I feel like it.
I used a Fantasia on one of my characters to adjust her height a little bit, and considering changing the eye colour of another, but that's all. Changing their face would be weird.
I only changed a character's hairstyle once (from long to short, and don't want to 'magically' change it back), and it took a week of deciding beforehand and a few weeks to stop feeling like it may have been a terrible mistake...
Although I'd maybe change character hairstyles a bit if there were more subtle variations that looked like the same hair styled differently, rather than each one being a completely different haircut. Especially around their face.
After I got the new HoH hairstyle, my husband convinced me to just go ahead and try it because I liked it so much. I honestly felt like Sprinks lost her identity. That lasted a whole 2 weeks because I changed my gIamour and the hair just didn't work. I do change from the buns to the ponytails at Christmas time due to HORRIBLE clipping with the reindeer antlers, but after 5 years of gathering dust, I finally tossed the fantasias that we got for free. I'm never changing my character to that degree. Ever.
In my case I think the changed style does work for him, most of the time, which is half the reason I didn't cave in and change it back. The other being that in deciding to change it in the first place, I'd justified it "in-story" for him and didn't want to just undo it.
Still, I’d spent a week or so thinking about it, testing it repeatedly in the preview screen, yes i was 100% certain and.... then as soon as I’d actually changed it, it was so weird and I was doubting it for days. (I still feel a bit bad for "doing that to him"!)
It definitely makes a huge change to how the character looks, and it's still strange to see him like that. Although now his old appearance looks kind of strange too. :/
(Still, his face looks the same as before, so that helps with getting used to it. It’d be extra weird if his actual face had changed as well.)
Thats why i like alts. You get attached to your mains look, been through all those quests and lived out a journey as that person. I just dont see ever changing my look either. However I Love Lala's and I made an alt to play with my Lala and have fun with its adorable look and nature. But as for changing my main into one.. Nope, couldn't do it LOL
2ish years ago I tried to switch my main from male au ra to female au ra and it lasted maybe a whole 2 days because it felt so off. Haven’t fanta’d him since. I don't think I can anymore, so even if we get a new race in any future expac it'll be alts getting switched up.
That said, I can’t imagine being set to one hairstyle. His hair is usually one of the mid to longer male ones but its easy enough to hand wave changing to a different style as getting a trim, growing it out, or pulling it up into a ponytail/bun/braid etc :P
I didnt regret changing from male elezen to FemRoe and that was the only time I used a Fantasia.
However, I can very much agree to the hairstyle-"problem". Vidu always has long hair in blue/green/darker colours (on occassion red or purple), but once in a while I've tried to change that. I really like some of the shorter hairstyles we have (which is a surprise, because I'm convinced that everyone should wear their hair long, I've been wearing my own hair long since I was 3 years old) and they have the advantge of not clipping with gear! However, each time I tried one with Vidu, it just looked... wrong. I think the longest I stuck with short hair was for about an hour, because I wanted to show it to a friend. Same with lighter hair-colours - they just dont look right on her.
It even goes so far that I only have a few glamour-sets that I switch in between. Most of the time a new look just cant convince me to give up my old one.
I'm quite okay with that though and am always wondering about people changing the look of their character every other day. To me, my character is perfect and I'm pretty sure that if I were to fantasia her, I would terribly regret it.
I even remember that guy who asked me if I would change to a Mi'qote because he wanted to see what kind of character I would create (...or maybe he just had a thing for Mi'qos...) - he offered to buy me the fantasia (+one for the change back), but the thought alone made me kinda uncomfortable, so I told him he would have to deal with my FemRoe.
Yep.
My first fantasia I only used to change my boob size to larger, hated it and went back to 25. So that was 2.
3rd was to change to Au Ra, I actually stayed Au Ra for almost all of HW, but I started to miss my Miqo'te, it was strange seeing a different character even though she had the same colour scheme. I missed my Miqo'te's goofy laugh most of all. (It's the one that goes HO HO HO in it.) xD I would have changed back to Miqo quicker if I wasn't so hard up on munz, dunno how some people afford them all! Better job than I, and no kids perhaps. :3
I do this all the time! It’s the Fantasia itch I tell you. You change because it says it’ll be fun and then it’s not so fun!
Yeah, I usually regret it. I have tried high lander and raen on my main and it didn't last long. Then I had a cat girl that I changed to feel roe, male raen and finally duskwight. I think I am settled on duskwight. Wouldn't change him for the world now.
I suppose I'll confess :o
I've used a total of four fantasias that resulted in three permanent changes. I wanted my character to be bigger, and didn't really realize until after changing to Highlander that I still wanted my character to appear soft and feminine. Not saying female Highlanders aren't feminine, but they are not what I would call soft. I still gave it a go for a couple of days, and decided that she was just too different, and might as well change her name. I was very happy to change back, buuuuut…. I kind of held on to some residual Highlander and maxed out both her height and boob sliders.
The second set had to do with her eyes. I could never find the exact shade of purple I wanted because they are actually quite vast from one shade to the next. So I made a different choice and immediately hated it upon her next cutscene. So a couple $$ later, I changed back to the original shade but I also changed the iris size from large to small which got my character's eyes to stand how I wanted them to.
No more fantasias for Gemina, but I also really want a female Xaela character. The more I play the game, learn about the lore of the Au Ra, and see them in cutscenes, the more I fall in love. Not to mention they have the BEST /dance emote! I foresee starting another character sometime in the near future.
My poor husband. Whenever I get the urge to switch, it's basically an evening spent making and remaking characters together. Something about the lighting in the character creator doesn't do it for me. Sometimes I'll have him piggyback me to Mor Dohna so I can get the black swimsuit and run around, or I'll link my favorite glamours from my main and have him re-link those. Then, I'll have him pop in on another character so that I can compare them side by side, because I'm too cheap to take a $10 risk. It's a process. And most of the time I end up staying the way I am, too. (nw n );
No, never regretted it for one moment. Fem Roe ftw!
Yes. I've realized I can't be comfortable as anything but an Elezen.
On a similar line, I’ve been contemplating changing the names of two of my characters - because I’ve known for ages that they’re not lore-accurate so I’ve never quite felt they were right as they were... now I’ve finally actually worked out what to call them instead, but I’m worried that if I actually change it, I’ll be unhappy with it.
(It would be an easier decision if it wasn’t expensive to change it!)
I once changed from a female Au Ra to a male Au Ra. While I would have liked to play as a male character and was really looking forward to it, there were two problems: My character name was still "Elrica Lavandula", which is clearly female. The other was that I prefer playing healers, especially WHM and AST. But it was so bad to look at him casting Gravity and doing all the other girly animations. I couldn't live with that, so after like 12 hours I changed back to female and just made that male Au Ra my retainer.
I still wish you could choose between a more male and a more female animation set. For example, I like Warrior, but I hate their animations on my female Au Ra. I would play it more if there was an option to have more female animations for it. I also could play WHM and AST as male characters, but I personally don't like my male characters doing girly poses unless I would create one that should be like that. I would like to be able to choose that.

not sure where you got that from but i think au ra males look just fine with the healers and the poses of the attacks
more elegant then feminine imo
