Shiva's butt.
e: garuda's butt too
If you take a break and come back and find that you're not enjoying it, you're either lacking in friends (I'm a cynic at heart but even I KNOW you need these to make the game interesting) or you're burned out and bored and want a different environment. If you have the time, take up two games (one, non-MMO) and do this meantime. It does wonder for your rage.
I come back for friends and the dungeons.
a) it's Final Fantasy; I want to know the whole story, so I'll stick around until it's unplayable or the story ends
b) it'll be my last mmo, after this game I'll be done with mmos :)
c) I love my characters and love to roleplay as them and create stories and personalities to them
d) my FC and ingame friends who make me smile even after a crappy day at work
e) all the vanity and fluff, I'm such a sucker for housing and dress up :x
I have actually been thinking about this lately, because there are so many design choices and directions I don't like. However, I currently want to stay because of:
1. I enjoy the game content I spent most of my game time on, which is coils and extreme primal fights.
2. I enjoy playing the jobs I play and I like the fact that I can constantly improve in them and in the content I do.
3. I have a great static group and FC and I really enjoy playing and spending time with them.
I don't think any of these three things are in danger to change, but only time will tell if my annoyances with the game will grow big enough to overcome them.
Because my sub doesn't run out for another 3 months.
I'll be honest, the reason I played this long is mostly nostalgia for how the game used to be. Enough of it from version one made it over for me to still enjoy it for a while.
But as my friend list from 1.0 dwindled, the game devolved into a gear treadmill and SE started double dipping, I had to admit the fun was gone. So I've stopped paying SE two subs every month for the first time in 8+ years.
Friends, history/nostalgia and to the future. those are my reasons.
Friends, story hell being my first MMO even enjoying the raiding and stuff. Though getting fed up with the gear treadmill(but I put that and suggestions to that in other posts).
^ This. It's fun, much more so than WoD, SWTOR or GW2 for me.
Also, because Minfilia http://i.imgur.com/J35eDei.png
Still looking for my blue eyed blond cutie to marry :3
- I'm an long time fan, started to play final fantasy when I was 11-12... I'm now 28 :p
- I still hope to see the game becoming more interesting and less lockouts friendly at 3.0
- There is no other heroic fantasy pve mmo with raiding content worth to play on the market, for the moment.
- Meanwhile, I can't return to FFXI because of my credit card that is belonging to another country and crystas aren't availlable where I live.
- My small FC friends, I'm not going to betray them before we know and taste 3.0 contents.
I absolutely love and adore this game. I love my character, I love the scenery. I love my FC and I love that its something I look forward to by the end of the day to take some stress off from work. :D
BTW, thank you OP, for this thread. Because these past few days with all the complaints... *sighs and shakes head*
I'm here mostly to enjoy the story and to see where it goes. I've been playing since 1.0, so there's a lot of things I still want to see such as the City of Ishgard and more of the original 1.0 areas opened up again. They have a rich and vibrant world in this game, and I guess my firm belief is that eventually they'll open it up a bit more so we can explore and enjoy it, and perhaps even give more purpose to the existing areas rather than simply somewhere to grind.
Still very much enjoying the game and really loving playing Scholar. It's the first time I've played healer thats based on damage prevention xD
My FC is pretty epic, we gained really nice members and have lovely neighbours in the housing area we're in. My server for the most part has a great community, with random stuff happening on a regular basis... and I still have loads to get done before expansion!
I took a break to play WoW new expansion. I got bored as soon as I hit level 100 (I used to play WoW in semi Hardcore mode but I can't raid anymore because of schedule). Everything is gated or a timesink. Almost no reason to leave my garrison. So I decided to quit and come back to FFXIV. Since I came back I fell in love with this game again.
It's fun. When it stops being fun, I'll stop playing. But I've been here since 1.0 launch and that hasn't happened yet.
I enjoy the game's story. The music and the landscapes.
Things I don't like: PVP and Hardcore content (Coils and Extremes)
I first started playing because the basic digital download was cheap and I wanted to try it out. After finding a GREAT FC (shout out to Harmonium on Atomos) and discovering that I could do everything on one character I was hooked. The fact that I could play on a JP server so my fiancee can play with her native JP brothers and sisters was a HUGE bonus.
Aside from the above reasons, I stick around because there's still a lot for me to do and enjoy, even with the ridiculous gear grind.
Endless amounts of things to do...especially when you only have like 2 hours to log on in the evenings like I do. :)
More reasons...
I love being able to play all classes/jobs on one character.
No two levelling experiences are the same - I can pick and choose what and when to do FATEs, leves, hunting logs, guildhests/dungeons and their respective roulettes all backed up with the challenge log.
I'm here for one very simple reason. I love the game. Everything about it.
There really is not better subcription based MMO (I hate free to play or buy to play MMOs) for me.
I hate a few things about this game (mostly that I am not sure about the future of this game) but there are still more positive things.
The most positive thing for me is definitely the raiding, class system, the japanese style (I kinda like anime and stuff and this game has a bit of it, not much but enough). It feels like my first MMO again. :))
* I like being able to do everything on one character. Just need to finish Fisher now...
* I loved Paladin in FFXI, and it's only better in this game.
* The art... the graphics... the visuals, pretty much the fact that it doesn't look cartoony like WoW
* The absolutely awkward character motions and expressions. This is usually a characteristic of many Asian games. They're just funny.
* My FC... IDK what to call them... a gaggle of (homosexual expletive term here) or a flock of (another homosexual expletive term here) it's the largest LGBT FC on Famfrit is all
* Sexy armor... this can not be understated. A game where as a male character I can wear armor that other games would normally only allow a female character to wear, that just says homoerotic eye candy all over it.
* Shiney stuff... Zenith, Animus, Novus, Nexus, all that glitters is gold in my book.
* Inappropriate situations using emotes... yeah, a lot of games have them, but none that I know of use neko boys. I am still holding out hope for the Viera.
