And for those asking for a No option, I didn't make this as a Poll, i made it as a place people who agree can like it. I'm sorry, but I've seen enough people jumping down members throats for daring to ask for a change to what is essentially a crappy system.

Ilvl 90 Zenith > Ilvl 100 Atma , no stat upgrade.. can take anything from ??? to ??? hours/days/weeks etc.
Fresh Level 50 > ilvl 90.. an hour or so of farming hunts.
Atma > Animus - a very reasonable, progressable grind.
Animus > Novus - A little more difficult/time consuming (farming gil, back to farming hunts), but still reasonable.
Novus > Nexus - I don't completley understand this system, but AFAIK, grind dungeons etc for light, still reasonable.

P.S for those telling me to stop moaning on here.. i have actually completed my atma for the class i enjoy. Once again, per other posts on atma i have made, i DON'T mind a justifiable, reasonable and measurable grind, as I'm sure many who agree with the OP feel.

Let me know when you make a thread that advocates nerfing Animus. I'll be all over that.

I don't like references to "hours" spent farming. Your odds aren't on a per hour basis. They're on a per FATE one. How many FATES did you do? It took me 360 FATES for my 1st Atma weapon. Decided to work on a 2nd and I've been pretty lucky so far: 5 Atma in 40 FATES.

My point is just that maybe some of the people for whom it takes so many hours actually aren't very fast at getting from FATE to FATE. That could definitely skew the numbers. For me personally, it's never taken more than 5 hours for a single ATMA (it was about 150 FATES). The drop rate seems to be about 3% so if you were on average doing 10-20 FATEs an hour, it wouldn't take you more than 3 hours per ATMA or 36 hours for all 12.

These are just estimates and of course there might be outliers (heck I myself could be a lucky outlier) but regardless time spent is still irrelevant, it just makes fast FATE grinders seem "lucky" when in reality they might be getting to more FATEs. Anyway, whether or not this is an outrageous time investment is entirely subjective. My personal opinion is no but I admit I might feel differently if I was slow at running FATEs and it took me twice the amount of time.

that's what I always tell people. Chasing down higher level fates doesn't, help you stick to the low level ones in the areas where you can because they finish much faster (like WLN). You goal is to hit as many fates as you can, not see how many hours you can wander around.

If your chasing fates in the back of a far area like east shroud you are doing it wrong.

Everyone always says, I grinded 8 hours str8 or whatever, but it wasn't str8. washroom, food, smoke, ect.

Just hit as many fates as you can, its not that bad, plus you can use those GC seal to send your retainers out to farm shards, and sell them on MB to make good cash while you are chasing the Atma.

And to be honest, if you don't like Atma don't continue the rest, because its not any better from there on.
Find another option that you like and have fun.

not even close as for the atma grind i have always moved from fate to fate so really no standing around. I wanted those darn things just that much.

Some can get ALL atmas in 100 fates or less while others 500 or more. Atma simply should never have been implemented in fates to begin with, as practically every new content involves fates, which some have argued it's for level 50's to help lower level players out but many players just do log, dungeons, etc.
Anyhow to op this thread started as a like thread and such but seems it got derailed yet again by those that got full weapons within a week or less of grinding

Yep pretty much Maero. I can only hope people will keep it alive and keep the likes going on it. We are a majority of players asking for change to a system that just plain doesn't fit. Thanks for your time in answering this thread.

Holy crap I've long since held this opinion on majority of the people complaining about atma. I've known very few people that struggle for anything longer then a week on a set but they put hours upon hours into tackling this content daily. People do expect to farm these for very little time and get one.

A million times, this.

I'm 8/12 on my second set, just grinding fates between content.
Maybe 20 hours invested. Tops.
Drop rate is fine.

For every 45 minutes you spend on here complaining the drop rate blows, at least 10 chances at getting an atma vanish.

lol, Animus doesn't need nerfing. Its certainly faster than Atma and Novus.

Atma averaged 6-8 hours per drop (so 70+ hours total), Animus is less than that per book and there are only 9.

Atma takes about 2~5 hours per drop and just the fates for the Animus are about that much.

5% DR is a good rate. Leave it be.

If players really try to do the FATEs and went solo (with or without Chocobo) they will get their Atmas faster.

Doing a FATE or two and calling it quits will get you no where like 45% of the players have been doing. If you want loot and good gear handed to you, go play WoW.

Animus fates are not all 3-4 hr pops. It's quite literally a total of like 6 fates out of the 27 you have to do that have very long 3+ hr pops. You can knock out an Animus book in a window of 5-6 hrs playing optimally.

It might be easier now that hunts are a thing. I'm disillusioned by doing Animus when it tough to do. So forgive my ignorance.

They've also reduced the times on some of the fate spawns since Animus's initial conception. Hunts is part of it but you can farm Myth far more easily off running new people through EX Primals or T1-T5.

Poetically enough those moaning about the drop rate on here could go out, do a couple FATEs and get a couple atma after they have had their say here while you have actually been grinding FATEs and end up with nothing. When the amount of FATEs grinded has nothing to do with acquiring atma, your comment comes up rather moot.

No, fates you pop in and check and if theyre not there you do something else. You dont have to stand around waiting, lol.

And I have a log for every Atma, my average was 7.2 hours. You may have gotten better luck, thats nice for you.

I didn't log all my Atma but with the ones I recorded, I have an average time for 2.67 hours. I always did the fates last but since everyone was doing fates at the same time, they did not live long while they were up. But I fully expect my Warrior's Animus to take much longer than the Atma portion.

I mean, we do kind of agree -- its individual per person. Yours took 2.67, mine took 7.2.

Mine for comparison:

Archer - 12 hours
Bull - 5.5 hours
Crab - 9.5 hours
Fish - 9 hours
Goat - 4.5 hours
Lion - 16 hours (this one was insane, I nearly gave up)
Maiden - 2 hours (yay)
Ram - 5 hours
Scales - 3.5 hours
Scorpion - 1 hour (!!!)
Twins - 10.5 hours
Water Eater - 8 hours

So far my Animus has been going much faster than that. (6.8/9 books complete).


That said, I also kind of agree that _absolute_ time on Animus is higher due to Fate spawns, but as I said I can just do a quick tele-check and see if its up and if not do something else. So the actual time spent on the books is much less, I just can't guarantee I can finish them in a night or anything. Whereas Atma you actually have to sit there and grind it out.

When I was doing Animus (when it was new) it took 9~12 hours per book. It was pretty awful.

Bray was 3 hours
Mobs was 30m~1hr
Dungeons were 2~3 hours (low level players are slow)
Fates varied from 3~6 hours (I was 2/3 on fates and I was camping one in Southern Thana that took 5 hours to spawn =_=)

But it's been said it's nerfed so maybe the second time won't be so painful.

Do I really need to put a disclaimer on everything? Everything is RNG. Animus books could take 2 hours for a fate or 10 days because you log off when it pops. I'm getting sick of you interjecting this "because RNG" all the time. There's a reason why it's only a small minority of people complaining about Atma and an entire playerbase not complaining at all.

There is no arguing with you, nor is there with me. Everyone one your side of the argument is providing anecdotal evidence to why Atma needs to be nerfed. I provide anecdotal evidence on why I feel there is no problem. However both of us are wrong anyway. All they needed to do was make it so Atma wasn't a new coat of paint so you actually felt like you're getting an upgrade. However, because I'm not the new generation of MMOer and I played games that were significantly more punishing in terms of RNG, it's simply not possible to convince me that Atma rates are bad.

The amount of nerds in here being patronizing just because some people don't like how the atma system works is astounding.

RNG is only applied to Atma. Other parts of the relic are not.

They already nerfed the fate spawns for animus, so why is that okay but not helping people stuck on atma?

Loving the double standard here.

I think what he is saying (i'm not a mind reader so please take this with a grain of salt,) is that the atma drop system favors the obsessed players. Those who have the best chance of getting something because they spend a life absorbing amount of time on it.

I agree that they need to buff the drop rate. I went from sub 300 fates when I started atma in april to 1100+ when I got the last drop start of June. And that was with quite a few weekends doing NOTHING but atma farming(started friday afternoon(so some 6h) then saturday(woke up started usually at 09:00/10:00, lunch break, a break here and there... and then went onward to 22:00). My drop rate was... 3 in April when I started, 3 at start of May... then 3 mid May and 3 end of May/start of June. I soloed every fate in quite a few zones and know them by heart now.

I started on my second set when hunts came out using the daily fate hunts... now expanded that to trying for half an hour in a zone. Am on 6/12 so apparently it might be worth not griding it but doing as little as possible each day to increase your chance. I did less fates so far to get half way then it took me before to get half way.

This seems to be a deflection of his original question.

Example: Did 10 cumulative fates pop across those 10 hours? You could track your personal rate of fate completions through your achievements, assuming you haven't capped at 3000 yet.

Atma sucks, the whole Relic quest sucks, but it's not broken, nor is upgrading your Relic a requirement for anything.

I think part of the discrepancy between the two viewpoints here is that a large number of posters did their atma farming when it was released, you had 10-20 people minimum per FATE. FATEs didn't last long, you got gold and moved on in about 20 secs per FATE. Now it's not the hip new thing, you're more likely to be solo'ing FATEs which takes 5 mins or so depending on FATE.

Also, the JP method. It may be a placebo, but it worked for me.

Took me about 2 weeks of 4 hours a day FATE farming for my first set of Atma. Took me a week doing less per day for my second set using the JP method, and this was several months after Atma was released, so FATEs took longer.

Just to reiterate for those act as though we're asking to date your mother:

You got your atma in a ridiculours time, good for you! This does not mean it is a fine system. Why is nerfing one part of the relic line alright, but not the main part which does absolutely nothing but give you the right to actually start upgrading it's stats.

By this mentality, noone would ever do anything in an MMO. We all pay for the game, we do enjoy a vast majority of the content, so please SE, take a look into this properly.

disclaimer - we are not saying "give us this part of the weapon with NO work". I personally am a big fan of the concept of having an increasing % chance the longer you spend in an area.

Relic: Chimera is nerfed, Amdapor Keep is nerfed (to oblivion) and Hydra and the Primals are given the Echo. Easier to acquire Relic now, whereas it was an effort back in 2.0
Zenith: Easiest step. 900 Myth and you're done (now will most likely need... 450 Soldiery in 2.4?)
Atma: Spend minutes, hours, days, months hoping to get a single Atma that will go towards you getting the Atma weapon. Nothing has changed.
Animus: Easier to get Myth for books now, I hear FATE's now have a quicker pop rate than before, meaning it is much easier to get an Animus now.
Novus: Daily roulette to get map for Alexandrite. Buy map with 800 Myth OR buy the Alexandrite with Allied Seals. Can either make your own materia or buy it. Can also decide if you want two stats that require Tier IV materias or three/four additional stats that only require Tier III's.
Nexus: Do Cape Westwind (and other stuff) for a few hours a day.

Atma (and Nexus, but that is still fairly recent) is currently the only step that has not been nerfed in any way.

To those who said Atma farming is fine... I expect you to have obtained your Alexandrites via FATEs... BEFORE the drop buff.
Oh well, they raised the drop for Alexandrites and NOT for the Atmas.
They nerfed/changed EVERYTHING (Coil, bosses, dungeons, relix quest) but not this step.
They gave options for every step so you can choose whatever method you like, EXCEPT for this step.

This is what really bothers me: the lack of a choice.
You are simply forced to collect Atmas in that specific way.

And I bet all my money, when they will give us an option for Atma farming EVERYONE, including the "Oh my Gwad!I luv so much Atma RNG (cause I got my Atmas within few days)!" will stop doing FATEs.

I couldn't choose which primals to do or what job to do them on. (In fact you do have a bit of flexibility here as you can collect Atmas on any job you have zenith for). I couldn't choose which dungeons to do.

There was only one method for earning myth. Dungeons (CT wasn't released).

I get it. You people love your grind. However, those who CAN put in 4 day insane no life grind to complete one, or who got really lucky with their drops, we're happy for you, seriously. Just don't assume that everyone is going to think the same as you, or have the same luck as you. Because a system was painless for you, while being severely difficult for others, doesn't == keep it that way.

If I wanted to be really indepth on how many people don't like the system as it is now, i could go linking all the million other threads sayin' that exactly, but hey, I don't ahve time for that.
