I am quite curious how you got 85million :O Ive never had past 2-3 million (in total...and that was struggling to save up for an FC house between me and my hubby)

In regards to farming, the problem I run into on my server is that supply far outweighs demand, and many folks undercut like mad. So when you do sell materials or gear on the MB, it tends to sit there for weeks or months unless you undercut as well and by the time all the undercutting ends you've ended up with half or less of the money you could have made had it not been undercut in the first place. Another problem I noticed is that a good chunk of the people that craft, have started gathering/farming their own materials (mostly with the help of retainers I'd imagine) and then just make what they need for themselves. They cut out the MB entirely. Sadly, I am one of those people though I dont craft. I helped my hubby get all his crafts to 50, and when I need stuff I get him the mats and he makes it. Once again cutting out the MB entirely.
Personally, I hate the MB and wish they'd have made it an actual auction house so prices were hidden until you bid enough, but thats just my preference and doesnt necessarily match the views of the rest of the population. I would estimate that about 85% of the money I earn is from doing dungeons, leves, challenge logs, and fates. Only up to 15% would be from actually using the MB. I'm only poor right now, cuz I gave most of my money to the hubby so he could finish materia-ing out his jobs/crafts. Before buying housing, my personal room, materia's for novus and lending money for hubby's melds, I had about 2-3million that I'd saved purely from dungeon/challenge log style contents.

I quit the game in February with 3~4m and I came back in July after the free week-end. Now I have 11m, without focusing on farming. The inflation is strong, it's easy to make gils.

About 450,000 at the moment. The most I have ever had. I scraped and saved knowing personal housing was coming out and I knew it wouldn't be enough, but I hoped to be close. Hah. Stuff that. :|

2 million, I'd have more if I worked harder at it, I just look for gaps between supply and demand when I get bored and find ways to meet buyers' needs that other sellers aren't doing at the moment. Oh and there was the time before the patch with personal housing/desynthesis where I bought EVERY piece of Ahriman furniture I could that was cheap... the best was seeing several lines in sale history with Ahriman flower vases being sold to me for around 50 gil, followed by several lines of them purchased for over 20k gil after the patch. I could tell from the market boards that others had the same idea, and someone was going to do it so why not me.

To anyone claiming to have never have had more than 1mil, just get junk ilvl45-49 sets and kill lvl 45-50 mobs. Can be done solo or in a party.

Ideally mobs that drop good items, the "Garlean" items such as Garlean Steel Plate, will be very high in demand either now or very soon.

Materia + expensive craft mats and you'll soon be able to make a mil in not that many hours.

Loads of other ways too, but sitting on your hands wont help you make gil/buy a house.

That said, I do think housing prices are insane and won't be wasting my gil on one any time soon.

11.5 mil, haven't really tried to make money lately, I'm definitely not buying a house.... there is no small house plot left anyways.

Had 15M on me when 2.38 hit, i bought a house though for the garden! All this gil was made just from 2.35 from desynth demimateria :)

Currently in this post, it would appear most of us have less than 5million gil. With almost half of us being at less than 1m.

On my person I have about 3.3 million gil. taking my retainers into account I have about 5-6 million.

about 74k in my pockets and around 70k with my retainers. I wasted around the same amount on chocobo stuff before I learned our FC gives away fruits lol /sigh

i have spent a lot of gil, but i have at this momment 342k gil

I have about 1.7mil... I tend to spend it as fast as I make it ^^; I bought three workbenches for the FC the last time I had money to spend... Now I'm trying to save it up for the next time more houses are added.

Also what server depends on your amount of gil. More people have more gil on high servers, but its value worth less than a small server.

A little over 300k, not that I want or need personal housing - my personal room I share with my bf in our Free Company is all I need. :)

At my highest i had 5.5m, then spent some cash on friends, when personal housing came out i was at 4.5, now i'm at 1.8m, still working on decorating though. I've had 2 friends that i know for sure had over 10m.

To be fair most people with a lot of gil won't be posting what they have on here.

Just some tips I did to farm up some extra gil every now and then (not millions necessarily, but pocket change that builds):

If you have a Gatherer at level 50
1) Check the MBs and decide whether to sell or do a map everyday. Boarskin Maps are often listed as 20k and that adds up over a period of time. Or do Peisteskins with friends! Put any extra on retainers if you can't do those daily. Sell the rest.
2) Keep an eye on the prices/supply of certain clusters/crystals/carbonized matters. These consumables sell VERY regularly and if the supply is low, you can make great gil for a day or so until the market gets flooded again. Be careful YOU don't flood the market.
3) Certain mid-range materials that are used for crafting are regularly in demand. Flax, some components used with ores, etc. Gather a quick stack, put it on the MB, leave it a lot. Again, don't flood the market.
4) If you get a higher level gatherer, HQing certain Unspoiled Node materials can be profitable, especially if you're mostly doing stuff in RL, check in for the hour at the node, get the stuff, leave. Gotta do research on your own server though to see what's in demand on the day.

If you have a Crafter at 50
1) Unless you're a culinarian, you can buy the Master's Glamours recipe book in order to make glamour prisms. Certain crafters won't find this profitable, but the Clothcraft, Leatherworking, and Goldsmithing ones sell pretty well and the materials can be very cheap if you're smart about getting them yourself/buying when they're low. Again though, be careful of flooding the market. When you log in, see which ones have a low supply and fill the niche if you can.
2) Similar to the gathering tip, many mid-range crafting products (particularly HQ) sell for much more than what their materials cost. Put your eggs in many different baskets. Don't make 8 HQ of one thing and expect it all to sell. Spread em around. Be cogniscent of what things are often bought for materia melding like certain level accessories, etc.
3) If you're a somewhat melded crafter, HQing certain upper level recipes, particular for things like darksteel nuggets, spruce lumber, etc. can be very profitable depending on server supply, be smart though! Don't flood blah blah blah

General Money-Making Tips
1) Even if you hate crafting, DO THE IXAL DALLIES. You eventually get to a rank where you can get 6 Ixali Oaknots for 12 (total) Philo materials that can be sold for 4-7k depending on the item and the day. Again, see which ones are the highest price/lowest supply. AND if you have a crafter at 50, you can potentially use those materials to make the items that require 9 philo mats like Darksteel Ingot, etc. HQing them is a bonus as well.
2) Challenge Log. Certain ones are admittedly terrible, but even if you just do 15/20 challenges for the week, that's still potentially what, 30-35k? And you're getting companion exp, crafter/gatherer exp, general exp - don't neglect it!
3) Materia Melding - this one is probably obvious, but I'll approach it differently. EVERYONE wants to hit it big with the IV grade materia. I do as well. But sometimes it's just not worth the time/gil investment, especially if you play mostly solo. Look at the daily materia supplies and see where you can make the most profit for the most in demand lower grade ones. For example, Gatherer I materia is sometimes 6-10k each (for guerdons and guiles, anyway). I can spiritbond 6 lvl 20 pieces very casually in 20-30 minutes on a level 50. Even buying that armor from an NPC, the gil profit quickly outweighs the input cost. Also keep an eye on grade II materia for many things like savage might, savage aim, the gatherer and crafter stuff, etc. The grade IIIs are generally cheap as they're often by-products of IV-goal spirit-bonding but the supply for II's is sometimes low. I made 120k off Savage Might and Aim II's yesterday in an hour an a half because the supply was so low the prices were jacked up. And others bought it.
4) It's like the lottery/slot machines, but Quick Explorations can be VERY profitable considering Ventures can be bought from seals/treasure chests. Sometimes you get a fish, and sometimes you get a 70k materia/furnishing/equipment. It's worth a shot to keep those up whenever possible!

TL;DR: ALWAYS attempt to fill many different niches in the markets otherwise undercutters will frustrate and block you. Log-in and do initial research on the market boards to see what deals you want to quickly take advantage of and do so in a way to not flood the market boards. Hopefully all that helps as a starting point for some people, anyway.

Well, you can't really count "cash on hand", and that wouldn't have been a logical way for SE to measure it either. You have to consider earnings and the capability to make money. I mean, at any given point of time, anyone could be "poor" if they just spent all their gil on something; there are lots of ways to spend gil in this game. If people have a target they're trying to reach, they can withhold spending in other areas to save for that thing they want. It's basically just a question of priorities.

What's more relevant to the conversation is how much gil people have earned over the lifetime of playing their character, which is of course a bit harder to track.

Altogether I have probably about 7 Mil between my main and my alt but I don't really spend a lot of time making gil. Just sell stuff when I can & sometimes get lucky with Ventures.

On hand about 25k. One retainer has 120k set aside for my Sahagin mount and the other retainer has the 1m I had scraped together for housing.

About one million.
Mostly because I craft what I want/need and walk everywhere. If I get something I don't want or need, I put it on market when the supply is neglected.

Have 3M on me, another 1.5M in retainers. Came into ARR with 1.3M from 1.0

Spent about 1.5M on melding my gathering / crafting classes so far. That's all I've spent gil on besides daily expenses.

At the Novus stage now, so I may be broke soon..

~2.5 million. Not saying how I get mine.

I had 1.5m. I bought a house, and now down to 47k

I finished my Novus and all beastmen last week, and I was sitting at 2.3 millions.


Then a bought a plot of land for 2.1 millions, raised another 300k during the evening yesterday and I'm currently building/furnishing my house. Currently at 70k but I can make 100-150k without breaking a sweat every day.

As soon as I get my garden planted, this average will increase quite a bit I'd say.

Around 50k at any given time.

I buy stuff.

4m and i dont soulbound farm nor have any crafts. It's just gil i gradually get since game launch. Wont catch me spending all of that on housing.

You can turn 2300 Company seals into material worth 9k+. At least, I would say this but said material have plummeted to 5k on my server and I've no idea why.

Animal fat, coke, etc.

Go run Wanderer's palace and get the secret chest no one goes to when everyone leaves. The materials from there are worth 40-90k. Kill gigantoads or hippogryphs for their skins and sell them in the MB. It's pretty easy to make gil if you really wanted to.

My mom has about 100k I have 3.2 mill that was SUPPOSED to go toward a house til I read the patch notes...now...well I'm stuck with 3.2 million with nothing to do with it.

22mil and 14mil worth in materials

35,019 atm.

I currently have about 8.1 million.

2.8m, around 3.5m on listed items, also bought a house when the patch went live and in all this time I have spent probably over 15-20m on random stuff (including my FC's house).

I hardly ever craft stuff to sell.
