I blame atma and the hunts.
I have gotten a lip every single day since 2.1 for a total of 244 lottery tickers not including over 20 lottery tickets a friend gave me and I didn't get a millions in any of them, while a friend of mine gets his million the day 2.1 came out and he gets a second one later. I feel like millions drop rate should be increased at this point because it is several months old.
RNG is flawed. The sooner everyone realizes this, the better the devs will get at designing meaningful content instead of soulless grinds.
I can see what you're saying and yes I agree opportunity cost plays into it. Regardless of if you use the map or sell it, there is a cost there. To me the OP is choosing to use the 'product' instead of selling the map, saving up the money they would have gotten from said sale, and then buying the Blue Bird instead. It;s all about choices, work for it ourselves or pay someone else for the service. I got what you were saying, that was until the last comment. Now seeing you didn't quote anyone I'm not sure who you are speaking too, but if it's to the OP then I'm not sure if this last comment makes sense.
But over all, to anyone saying people should just buy the bluebird instead of going out and getting it. To me it is 6 of one and half dozen of another.:
If the OP wishes to earn something instead of spending their money, then the last part of the above quote doesn't make sense to me, but as I said they could have been speaking to another party. But regardless... They are wanting to work for it themselves, and not pay someone else to do it for them. So in sense, yes they are not getting the gil they would have got from selling the map, but they aren't wasting their gil either, only their time. Yes time does essentially cost money, but everything in life, be it paying someone else to do it, or doing it ourselves takes time.
Ex: If we change the oil in our car, or pay someone to do it we still have to use our time either way.
A) I do it myself, only spend money for the oil I need, then change the oil myself spending my time.
or
B) I take my time to drive it to someone, spend the money to have them to it while I spend time waiting, or drop it off and spend someone else's time to come get me and take me back, then go home.
Either way I have spent time and money, but one way might have been cheaper seeing either way I would have spent the time doing it. Its like Staris said, what is the opportunity cost... but what is it for playing this game period? Or for that matter, even posting here? The cost is other things we could be doing, going outside or hanging out with family/friends or going to see a movie etc...
But if people are willing to work and gain something themselves, instead of tossing away money, I don't see how that would equal someone who plays the lotto and doesn't take care of their kids. Which is why I am wondering if the above quote is speaking to someone else instead of the OP?
I, myself, am very much the same way in the game and in RL. If I can earn, or work towards obtaining something and I am more than capable of doing it, then why 'pay' someone else to do it? I'd rather spend time, knowing I earned it, than pay someone else for their work and be out the money. Now I can't do everything, so there will always be services I'll need, but in that case I feel it is required.
Like a person who doesn't have any crafts to 50 needs a crafter to help them, or they could just spend the gil and buy it. They have choices, and one might be more time consuming, but might save gil in the end.
Anyway... OP I know your frustration, I am still hunting for my Bluebird as well, seeing I refuse to buy it. But I think it will feel good when it finally drops and Iknow I earned it, plus the gil I'm making off the times I get! Best of luck, hope it drops soon! :)
Atma, mirrors, map drops, primal mounts, almost everything in this game relies on RNG. RNG is old and should be abolished, sure make it so it takes a while for things to drop but make it something you grind and work towards rather than relying on luck for everything. Achievements are perfect as long as it's realistic, or make a fail safe where it will drop after doing it xxx amount of times but it can also drop before that set amount as well.
RNG works pretty well in this case, it's not an item you need, it's a vanity item that only reason to exist is that it's rare. It's sought because of that. According to your logic, there would be no rare items in the game.
Heck, the fact that you can buy it's alone a "fail safe". You want it? You buy it. Don't want to buy it? Play the lottery game.
What MMO has no RNG, an how come you are not playing that then? If its so archaic an needs to be abolished, why dont you get to work on a game like that an let us know how it turns out. If the maps had no rng super rare drops, they would be worthless, nobody would do them, an there would be no point for the devs to have ever put them in. Ya lets all go back to the economy we had in 2.0-2.1 were u couldnt sell anything for more than 5k. That sounds like tons of fun... ><
I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything. I just came here to vent about not getting the stupid bird for 5 months of non stop grinding. Goodbye forums.
If you don't take her help I'll table flip you!!
In a sea of pessimism.. You better stop being proud like that girl... >=T I just got blue after months but you know what I did? I gave it to someone who really wanted it.. Because -gasp- people kind enough to give away a rare intangible DO exist. Take all the help you can get and lower your pride.
Nobody wants RNG, nobody wants grinds, everyone wants rare stuff. No wonder SE doesn't pay attention to the forums.
@KaiKatzchen Say 150 maps cost the same as a bluebird minion, if doing the maps yourself means you will get it within 150 maps I'd agree with you, but it's not the case.
150 maps, do them yourself for a chance to the the minion.
150 maps, sell them and have a guaranteed chance to buy it from the market (unless they added an RNG to the marketboard).
Note again that this isn't a general suggestion, some people still like gambling and well, someone has to put those minions in the marketboard, but in OP's case, having wasted so many maps, I think it's time to consider a second option.
Xeno, don't ruin your gaming experience over this RNG crap, save money and move on, the feeling from getting it yourself wont be much different from getting enough gil to buy it directly and both will wear off right away. At least with these minions we have a choice, unlike primal vanity mounts.
I'm surprised someone is actually getting mad at me about this. :O
If you decide to give me a bird if you find one, I will accept it. Thank you very much Nel.
The maps were not wasted, most of them were donated gil for FC housing, and I did make a lot of gil for my self in the process, but buying the bird would take half of my gil and that seems crazy for a minion.
But that IS what you're saying, you just don't want to admit it or don't realize it. RNG IS equal for everyone, the problem is you think the equality should be in GETTING the item, that's not what makes it equal, that would make it not rare. The equality is in the chance to get it. Every single map of that kind has the same chance to drop it.
As others have said, what you want is to not have RNG, but at that point you'd have to make some things extraordinarily difficult to obtain, but even then, the items would be far less rare then bluebird is. And it's important to have these rare items.
hmmm... sometimes I wonder why there are ppl who's relating MMO with online gambling games. There are gambling mini-games found within a game, but Gold Saucer hasn't been released yet. :p
Then you haven't played many MMOs with extremely low drop rate items. It took me 7 years to get a mount that I wanted in another MMO and that was from grinding the dungeon it dropped in an average of 6 times a day. Let me let you guys in on a little secret, it's not unfair. Unfair would be the drop rate being changed to accommodate people who don't know the difference between unfair and unlucky.
I've been doing maps with my FC every weekends. My bluebird drop this weekend:)
But is it truly a pure waste? If the maps were bluebird or nothing I'd agree. But you get gil and other items that can be used or sold, I've made more off the items I got off the map than what I would have got for the map.
But as you said some people like to gamble and/or earn it themselves. Nothing wrong with that. :)
Friend and I got 3 in the last 30 days
Bought mine off the marketboard for 555k :p Right before the prices went crazy :)
Still, it's a very Very rare minion so I don't think 2 mil is a high price to pay..
lol guess I'm still luckier than you. Got bluebird/tonberry on few maps only. Opo2x's from brayflox HM btw, and I still haven't got any luck with it. Too bad, my unicorn set hunting from primal X are way much worse. Stopped for now since I already have so many Rowena letters to get the whole set. ^^;
On similar related note, I have only got 2 unhidden maps so far out of dozens of regular maps. And with another special minion came out from it, we all can expect the gamble will be much more asinine than before. lol
oh wow! I don't remember seeing it so expensive on my server's market. Haven't checked for long time tho. lol
And now with majority player too cooped up with hunts, can except interest doing peisteskin maps way much worse. ^^;
