Holding back hunt mob mechanics so the innocent can survive? Seriously?

To be fair, Smaug was playing cat and mouse for the most part. He "missed" a lot for that reason. :) Not always, however. But anyway, as far as hunting mark mechanics go, they don't live long enough to do much as it is. S ranks are the only monsters I've seen that have one-shot mechanics they can actually use. I've been a victim of one or 2 myself. :P

Can the hunt monsters just be giant training dummies? They function about as much.

To play devil's advocate, that poor botanist can't choose which tree he chops down. He has one of 4 nodes to choose from. If the game drops it right inside a chimera, there's not a lot he can do, is there?

Also: stealth helps you avoid aggro, but once that puppy aggros someone else and aoe's, it will still hit u and interrupt your gather. Even low level mobs. Gatherers already get enough grief from wise - guy players pulling mobs into unspoiled nodes, and now the hunts.
I don't mind the idea of better mechanics , just spawn them away from nodes pls

I'm probably going to be flamed to hell for this but ah well...

I don't think boss mechanics belong right outside of cities, in starting areas. I think at least the brand new players who have not yet done anything but deliver items to NPC's and were probably only just taught how to even talk should not be expected to know that the bat hiding behind that tree is a very scary thing to avoid. One shotting a new player doesn't give them a chance to do anything about it first. They should learn of danger by going for enemies a few too high levels for them and see the fight is going badly and have a chance to run away or stubbornly stand there and die. That allows them to think they should have done something differently. One shotting them just punishes them for nothing.

Once you get out of the starter zones, THEN maybe bring in boss mechanics. Definitely in the level 45+ areas, people would probably like that in general. Level 1 areas? Please don't.

There is a difference between coddling and teaching harsh realities in a reasonable fashion. If they want to stand there while they're dying, that's one thing. If they want to walk past a normal tree and drop dead without warning, that's quite another. I don't advocate coddling, just a chance. Please, give our new level 1-3 players a chance.

Don't bully/mock them. Don't pull a hunt target onto them while they're innocently trying to kill sheep. Don't ignore them when they ask what that "thing" is. Warn them of danger and what makes it dangerous. Help and support the new players. Let them see your better side rather than your elitist side.

Remember that these are the players you'll be wanting to play with soon. These are the players who will replace those who quit or take breaks. These are the players that shouldn't feel wronged by the game within their first 10 minutes of play (if we can avoid it) if we seriously want them to hang around.

These are the players that were you or me once and this may be their first MMO so let's help them enjoy it ^_^

Just bcoz this game was designed as un-MPK-able. ^^;

YoshidaP's idea was correct. IMO even remove the hunting they still should maintain this game un-MPK-able.

You can. Unfortunate if it were an Unspoiled node though, as those are only available for a 3hr (Eorzea Time) window, and if anything happens to you, you stop collecting and the node goes away.

So in order to inconvenience you, a hunt mob has to

1. Coincide its several hour spawn with the node spawn, which changes each time it is killed or spawned
2. Have and show up in a spawn with nodes, out of several to choose from.
3. Have relevant attacks aoes or cleaves directed to your position by the players fighting it.
4. Continuously present said threat at that area for 3hrs eorzean time, it takes roughly 20seconds to mine a node.

This is planet aligning.

Also - stealth is not protecting from AoEs and most likely would not from any other mechanics either ...

You've clearly never harversted the unspoiled nodes yourself plus most likely suffer from reading comprehension as well:

1. Different kind of mob, fates and other "danger" stuff spawns on / around nodes all the time and if not some moron is guaranteed to pull it over there anyway
2. No - there is only one unspoiled node.
3. Which is nothing uncommon for even low level basic mob
4. Once you start harversting the node any kind of disruption - be it being hit even for 1 point of damage or you yourself leaving to run to sefty (or simply hitting wromg button by accident) will remove the node and you'll lose your chance of harvesting it till next time it spawns. Plus some fates can easily last longer that is the remaining time to harvest the unspoiled node.

This is someone commenting on stuff they have no clue about ... :P

I wonder how many people have actually seen the overall mechanics of the mobs? Like melt for instance all its special moves are unstunable and cause un-esuna/leech-able paralysis and I saw this because we were fighting it with only 9~10 people and chocos. Most people don't even know one from another of Odin's aoes. So having huge disasterous aoes now for the zerg crowd wouldn't fly when 2.4~2.45 hits and the tail end (Most likely myself) of the population grind for the armor or such. Because there will be a point when hordes of people aren't flocking after Bs anymore, and maybe even A's is SS and SSS ranks are added (Feeling a little monster hunter) which then the content has to still be doable at the bare minimum suggested players.

Repairs are super cheap and you can teleport anywhere at any time though..

Not that I don't think the overworld shouldn't have a little more danger, but I'd like it if we could let this game be FFXIV and not FFXI-2 or, at the opposite end of the spectrum, WoW2.
