Are Hunts Ruining Final Fantasy XIV?

it's not so much the hunts themselves or even the community that are ruining it for me right now. SE needs to drop the ban hammer in a big way on people using radar apps. They've locked out oil/sands in every other content except hunts, and people want these and are fighting for them BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT LOCKED which is in turn creating the toxic community and ruining hunts (this is historically what happens when there are a lot of people fighting over a small amount of resources.. see WORLD HISTORY.)

Basically SE made the mess, and they need to clean it up asap. Make sure the playing field is as level as it can be, that's the best thing they can do for their customers in the long run.

Hunts don't kill people... people kill people.

The hunts don't bother me at all. I do the dailies if I'm in an area running a treasure map or gathering for a GC supply mission. If I'm in an area & see a shout but can't make it to the coordinates in time, I just keep doing whatever I was doing. I'm not rushing through content.

But then again, I'm not the whiny entitlist internet rant troll type.

I'd rather enjoy the all the game has to offer rather than rush through a single feature or quest line, then throw a tantrum that I didn't get what I (ODC) wanted.

I haven't seen any of the shouts or threats that I've read about here... but damn, they are literally acting like spoiled children. /smh

Problem is that se won't do anything about it. It's been a week and a half and most changes have been slight not major. The thing id like to see would be removing sands/oil or implementing a weekly cap so only 1 a week like all other content, but that's a major change which won't happen. Once a systems gone live major changes rarely happen. I don't really mind the idea of everyone getting 100 plus armour for me its the negating of content. I was part of a thriving fc/kin in LOTRO moroa days when we had 8 or 9 six man dungeons and a good top tier raiding dungeon. Mirkwood gets released with a minor level increase and only 1 six man 2 three man 1 twelve man. Over night we went from having loads of content to none. The effect on our fc of doing the same few dungeons every night was total collapse.We all moved on to other games. I'm lucky on of that group is still a good friend and I got her into ffxiv a month back. But that's what could happen with hunts. With them being the shortest route to myth, sold and sands/oil that's all ens game content negated. If se announce a big ilvl increase and a load of new 90 ilvl dungeons that give 120 ilvl with coil 3 giving 130 ilvl to be released September at the latest then maybe that'd make sense. Still doesn't really make sense why coil 2 and St are locked if hunt sands and oil Arnt.

We have FCs and LSs for hunting too, but you'll often see parties up in PF looking to fill it up with random members as well. Usually 2 or 3 people in a party are associated with the correct groups to get to hunts quickly, so rarely do we have a pull without a good number of people.

We still have issues with people starting crap, but it's usually just people who are waiting on a handful of stragglers when we already have a couple hundred people all grouped together. The same people start all the arguments. So I just ignore them.

I've tried looking this up but can't seem to find the correct wording.
Do we need a ticket to hunt S targets? If so where do you get them?

And people question why I believe devs need to treat the general player base like children. The responses/crying/outrage remind me of when a child hates being called a "kid" or believes they are adults. Some 8yr olds at a local Elementary that I used to facilitate at behave and treat others better than 99% of the internet populous.

It's not about rushing through the content, it's about being able to do that content at all. It sounds like you have not even intentionally tried to hunt, if you had your feeling would probably be different.

I could care less about hunts getting zerged, a lot of people complain about not waiting or not telling people in the area about the hunt, that's not why I'm here. I'm here to advocate for something to be done with the blatant cheating that's being used to find the hunts. Certainly you would agree that cheats/hacks need to be dealt with?

At the moment there is no real reason to complain about the hunts, because they are not mandatory for anything in the game....yet.

As you all know, people are working on their relic weapon upgrades. I believe Hunts will be involved, and it is at that time, the true struggle begins.

For now, just have fun, I wouldn't spend any of those marks if I were you.

Yes it is a let down. The fact that it made it into the game at all is a mark against Yoshida and his team. If they don't take more significant actions it will linger and fester until most of us simply turn our backs on hunts altogether (some of us already have). It's sad that such a terrible system is causing so much trouble. This patch will be remembered as the "Fail Hunts Patch" and yet a lot of other great content was offered. The disappointment over the hunts is so widespread it is defeating all of the good that was done by the other parts of the patch. Personally, it matters little, but if they are willing to do such a bad job on hunts... it makes me worry about what else they might fail at.

"Hunt" and the reward itself is not the issue, it is some people refuse to work together as a team. A certain well hated fc on my server is one of those group. They will intentionally pull mob even before their own members arrive so other group will not get credit and they are being bloosting about they can do whatever they wanted.

Yep.

Community is a large part of an MMO and the Hunts have ruined what was previously a pretty good community and turned it into a really quite awful one.

Pretty much, I used to brag about the community here on Hyperion and encourage people to come on over. Sadly, I can no longer do that.

No, Hunts will not ruin this game.

Not playing for fun, but for gear and epeen, ALREADY ruined every MMO game.

I watched all of Yoshi-san excellent presentation of Final Fantasy 14 ARR's design decisions. Right at the end, he said that the most important rule is that a game should be fun to play. I hope he realises what this does REALLY mean - it means that a game shouldn't try to cater to EVERYBODY, including those who don't play for fun and only want to spoil other people's fun. Bad apples should be kicked out, not by banning them but by not catering to them any more. But it's never done, never. That's the big mistake (provided it's unvoluntary). That's why we can't have good things, that's why we can't have fun, that's why playing these games is so often more a pain than a pleasure.

Think about it.

Catering to "hardcore" players, usually "raiders", means providing "hardcore" content.
Hardcore content means high (and higher, and higher) level gear.
High (and higher, and higher) level gear means endless grinds to get it.
When all this is in place, even "non-hardcore" players feel forced to play the game this way, for many possible reasons but at least because after a while if becomes depressing to do (say) a dungeon with level 70 gear on when everyone else is 110... even provided you don't get kicked as soons as the others see you.
And so, no fun, but plenty of grind, boredom, squabbles, ugly scenes.

You should follow your own advice, Yoshi-san.

To be fair, those terrible people were always there. It's just they had no reason to venture outside mor dhona and interact with other people outside of trolling chat.

Hunts aren't ruining the game, the people playing it are.

Thinking about if, if you replace the first letter of the second word in the thread title with a C, it would be more accurate and cover all aspects of the game.

SE will do something, its too much hate now, u can see all the drama after the monster is dead, so SE will do something for sure

They are a disaster. But I'm ignoring them, so game not ruined. I wish they would revamp the whole system and turn it into endgame leves, because I would love to participate.

I wonder if anyone does dungeons anymore. If they don't, what happens to all the newbies trying to progress?

One major problem I see with hunts as they stand currently is that the rewards you get from doing them are very high per time spent compared to other content. I spent a few hours after maintenance doing some hunts - before I knew it, I was already capped on soldiery for the week (this was the start of a new week after reset). Keep in mind this is in *addition* to all the seals I got, as well as so many myths that I had to keep stopping off at Mor Dhona to spend them. It gets hard for people (myself included) to pull themselves out of a good hunt party to do other content when the rewards are this lucrative by comparison.

I think right now a lot of people are going to be doing hunts because I think a nerf to hunts in some way is inevitable and I expect to see some significant changes to it by the next minor patch update date. People are probably trying to get all the seals they can right now before hunts and hunts rewards are adjusted.

I just spent 15 minutes in Coerthas doing a leviquest for my Skyfire II Atma book. The amount of yelling and shouting in the zone was amazing. As you can imagine, the conversations were not exactly friendly. I dont know whats worse right now, the yelling in channels about hunts or gil spammers. When I came to this game, everybody was really friendly and happy with a periodic unhappy camper. Now due to the hunts... so many are turning on each other and running around angry.

So to answer the OPs question... yes, yes they are.

The yelling is quite hilarious and sad at the same time. Oh noes, you missed one monster! Out of the 500 others you will kill today!

I've even seen people blacklisted that don't even fully understand hunts they just pull a monster and everyone goes ape on them and they just don't understand what happened, so I explain to them the general "rules" of the hunts and then they get extremely sad and upset and wish they had never even seen that monster.

at 1 point people are goin to make lvl 50 mules to troll people at hunts (like meh im gona pull every damn MOB till it finds an end.)
seriously lets find all time and pull because they are hunt mobs and not wait for the rest mobs....

It's a good idea that was poorly executed. It can still be salvaged, but it needs to be done quickly. And there needs to be swift action taken against the increased number of cheaters.

I'm wishy washy about it.

I think it's good for the community because it's nice to see people running all over the place and there is open world content. Late at night is the best time to do this stuff because majority of the server is asleep and it's not a Zerg fest. People are also working together. Or trying to.

It's bad for the community for a couple reasons. People are rude and it brings out the worst in people. There are people obviously cheating using that radar crap. And the server wide linkshells all going to one low b rank at the same time.

I don't know, I think it's at a midpoint for being good and bad for the community.

I think they should add allied seals to Frontlines. That'll give greater incentive to pvp and provide an alternative to hunts for casuals.

Like FFXI, the hunt has same problem
Hunt provides the top gears that comparable to SCoB. But SC0B provides everyone same chance to join/loot.

Hunt is a win-lose game, hardcore players will get as many as alli-seals for themselves and just hunt as many as NMs across eorzea. Groups recording NM spawn location & e time of death. They are in fact monopolies/cartels in the game. If they have surplus, they can earn gils from those who don't have time to track NMs by selling alli-seal by letting the buyer join the group when hunting. Other players might only get 1 all-seal, 2 myth and 1 sold even if they start hitting the NMs together with those groups. This distinction among the player base will creates tension among them. Someone may already notice the atmosphere getting bad.

Those from FFXI said the hunt system is good, because 90% of the FFXI players are hardcore gamer. Irrespective of the way of leveling up to doing quest, one needs to attach to a competent group to progress.

This right here...casual content should NEVER give gear equivalent to raid gear. At best the hunts should give i100 gear (even that is pushing it). You want the best end game gear...go raid. You don't like raiding? You don't need high end gear.

Yes. Especially for ps3 players and casuals. The hunt content is a complete mess and the longer se takes to address it the worse it gets. I don't even know if it can be fixed at this point because so much damage has been done already.

give us another option to get unlimited sands and oils of time and i can guarantee a lot of players would stop doing hunts.

I got naul once and got 5 seals but the ticket says reward 20. Someone tells me that's only if you get the kill, maybe they need to word it that way? I'm not breaking my neck for something so hard to get to for 5 seals I can get that much off the daily ones and easier, but honestly I haven't been doing them because the rewards are so low and the hunts are a snore. Only people getting them are using programs to track when they pop or just happen on them....

I'm a FFXI player, i know many other players, we're mostly agree on this point: NM on the maps are good, over-competition on them like we've here is bad.
The probleme here is the rewards (no, i'm not against "casuals" obtaining high level gear). I explain.
From hunt you can obtain/buy:
Soldiery/mythology tomestones
Mythology job stuff without paying tomestones
Alexandrites
Oils/Sands

On high level gear not obtainable by hunt remain: (high) allagan gear, primals weapons, ATMA. So survive from hunt: Bahamuth/Primals battle/FATE

The rewards should have been split on differents activities, not one event which kill them all.

Honestly as it stands I may never need to do a dungeon again. The rewards for hunts are so huge that even doing rouleties or speed runs is a waste of time. I'm not in the same boat as the Raiders who don't feel special anymore because others can get the same level of gear, but the gearing through hunts is just too dang easy.

Hunts definitely ruined a lot of the incentive to do PvE content. Ramuh Ex might as well not exist.
