Are Hunts Ruining Final Fantasy XIV?

This is like a serious question. I'm on Adamantoise, I've seen people lose their minds if they don't get a hunt & someone pulls & kills it. People go as far as to Blacklist, name shame or say things like, "I'll trace that guys IP address & I'll make him wish he was sorry."

So my question is, are the Hunts ruining your experience with the game? To me it seems like Hunts are all people do now because the rewards vastly outweigh everything else.

    Thoughts?

I've mostly just ignored hunts to save myself having to deal with the people.

I think it's the more hardcore endgame raid people that are going after allied seals for the sands of time that are taking it too seriously. I bet the problem would be solved if oil/sands of time was removed from the rewards.

Most HC raid people are doing it for the other rewards like GC glamour gear and minions.

Its the ones who can't down SCoB and want the sands who are the biggest crackheads from my experience.

So do you stop and ask them if the can't down SCoB? Do you examine people in the 30 seconds of the fight to see if what they are wearing is really their gear or if they glamored? Cause this seems like nothing more than pure speculation on your part. People will do what is easiest and fastest to do regardless of whether they can down SCoB or not. That is and always has been a fact of life.

It's such a pity too. The feature is so awesome on its own, where the fights themselves can be fun and add at least some degree of "life" to the open world. By that, I'm not referring to players being out and about, but rather that there might be something unique roaming an area. Assuming the hunts don't get a Coil equivalent buff when the 3rd Coil releases, I'd imagine it'll die down significantly at that time. The people ruining the intended experience would have gotten more than enough seals to deck out their main/alt jobs.

Then again, when that time comes, chances are Myth tomes will no longer be used, meaning the elites will be adjusted to also give whatever the new tomes will be. So... same crowd back at it. At least there will be a cap on that one though (not implying seals need a cap, but that those players won't benefit in the way they want for very long).

Pretty much the same reason I've stayed away from it.
I was really looking forward to this content as well; but, I have no intention of participating while it's in its current state. I have other things in game I can do, and I have other games I can play.

It's not the attitudes that get to me, it's the lack of anyone doing any other content at all. My FC tends to have at least 2 hunt parties running at any given time, often 3. No other content is being run at all - there's a few of us that do ST, and I'm pretty sure no-one in the FC has put in a serious attempt on Ramuh EX. The way they are at the moment hunts are so effective for gearing up that no one does anything else. This leaves me as pretty much the only high-leveled and well-geared person in the FC that actually gives a damn about anything other than raiding and MOAR HUNTS!!!11!!

It's not healthy for the game and counter to basically every other update SE has put in (roulettes, bonuses for helping new players, even the animus questline) that requires you to go out and do content that (in theory) makes you help others learn. All hunts teach you is that gear is easy to get, and that anyone not directly in your party/LS is not a nice person.

I am hoping it will eventually calm down but as it stands now, getting people to do the Second Binding Coil is like pulling teeth. I am worried that with the hunts, they may have inadvertently killed raiding. The rewards from hunts are good enough for most people it seems and the rewards from raiding are not strong enough to lure them back.

To be fair, if you don't know people or have an in, it can be damn hard to find people to raid with. And a lot of people aren't willing to give newcomers that want to try it out a chance. (I'm fortunate that I do have the social connections for when I feel like raiding, but for someone without those... getting started isn't easy).

Edit: And sands and oils aren't everything. No amount of them will get you whichever High Allagan pieces that are BiS for you. But for those that couldn't do SCoB (whether due to skill, latency, RL commitment, or simply not-having-a-static issues) now at least have some way to get i110.

This right here...casual content should NEVER give gear equivalent to raid gear. At best the hunts should give i100 gear (even that is pushing it). You want the best end game gear...go raid. You don't like raiding? You don't need high end gear.
