To answer both of you, I was using IL70 trinkets melded with VIT to fill my titan-egi some more extra HP, specially for the end when the HP pool was more of an issue to heal.

Since i was the one who said it, simple answer: i'm spanish and english is not my native language, so i'm pretty sure i didn't use the correct word. I wrote that after Ramuh started attacking us inside the "circle" at the beginning at the battle, and by "hack" i meant Titan-Egi tanking itself instead using PLD/WAR (again, we were doing this for fun, i wasn't expecting to win xD). I guessed nobody would think "OMG, THEY'RE USING HACKS! HE SAID IT!", but i guess i'm wrong...
Or they could just split Shock Strike into a sequential single-target attack and an instantly following donut AoE around the tank. The single-target portion would ignore the pets' AoE-damage-taken-reduction, and that would be the end of that. No class changes necessary.
I would be in favor of that if the pet was just a larger portion of the SMN's dps. But when the pet is scarcely more than a third of the pair's total damage, I don't see why it should be able to do as much as real tank tank while having two thirds of its potential basically unchanged. Make the pet the majority of the SMN's effects, or force the SMN to do more to maximize the pet's potential at cost of its own in order to possibly do this -- such that its variance is a truly significant choice -- then I'd love to have that be the case.
On that note, I am glad that this at least required some gear trade-outs.
Nothing against you Sir :) But it's always better to quick respond to this than be sorry, especially on this forum, most people that come on ffxiv-forum for rage and trolling purpose or/and witch hunting which is not our case in this thread, we re just a solid team of 8 peeps trying fun-stuffs around on end-game contents :p
Who or what says we aren't allowed to do Ramuh this way? It doesn't break any rules, they made the game and boss this way, we are just being creative with it.
Don't jump to conclusions please, the comment was merely a joke and nothing more, we had to make alot of preparations and planning to get this to work and even then we didn't believe it was goona work.
With alot of teamwork we managed to pull this off and its an awesome achievement to be the first to do so, we just wanted to share this with yous.
Just dint think that strat would get so overhyped everywhere. I'm myself getting spamed in my youtube/ingame inbox, posts about it are growing everywhere and party finders are starting to only go with this strat...our plan wasnt to make it be the new "in" thing to do, but more to get our first ramuh kill in a fun and exotic way.
Sorry if my members seems to overreact a bit, but the hax accusations and whatnot are getting strong right now...personally starting to regret making a post in the first place.
There's nothing exploitative about this. The Titan-Egi is doing it's job, which is to tank.
Don't let the people who think this makes an already easy fight "Too easy" get you down.
in before mass amounts of crying cause nerf.
We tried something different and it worked. And we did it whitin the game's mechanics, we didn't bug the boss, neither used third party's softwares to achieve our goal. The only thing you can blame us for is to use our brains. :)
And, to be honest with you, I wish we had more fights in which we could break the mold and dare different things.
This reminds me of people using Voidwalkers to tank Sarth+3.
I don't see a lot of difference between this and the enrage strat from turn 2. People figured out a different way to approach a boss fight that the devs never realized was even possible. It may or may not be changed in the future, but for now congrats on your win guys.
Who needs tanks? More like who needs ANYTHING ELSE?

I myself have long wanted to do bosses and dungeons just with Titan Egi, problem is finding people that want me too, lol.
Kudos to all of you especially going mainly as Bards for dps, that must have taken time. And my main class is Bard (more blm now) so i am not being sarcastic or anything
As smart as this is. I really hope it gets hotfixed immediately. Tanking on this game is already starting to lack, and now I don't need to be banned from certain fights altogether.
4 SMN with titans can run any expert dungeon with ease. poor titan egi.. he finally has a time to shiny over garuda and ifrit and people want to nerf.
leave my pet rock alone!
I'll be pretty surprised if Ramuh's attacks don't eventually get altered such that they bypass the 80% AoE reduction that pets get. That degree of circumvention just seems too high to be ignored.
It only says that because right now you have to enter the fight with a premade (you cannot grab people off the DF for it) meaning you can use whatever setup you like.Quote:
Any one ever read the requirements for "The Striking Tree Extreme".
Once they put it on the DF later with 2.35 or whatever, you can pretty much safely assume it'll force you to use 2/2/4 like everything else if you don't have a premade.
Nerfed? People have been tanking end game content with titan-egi since ARR was released. Otherwise, what's the point of Titan-egi in end game?
How is this any different from by-passing levy's healing mechanic? You all against this need to lay off, they found another way to down it and they don't deserve all the rage their getting.
SE designed ADS to enrage and do nothing but an AoE attack constantly. Players are not breaking the fight mechanics, they're simply waiting for it (I wish people didn't do enrage thought, it's boring). The boss changes the fight mechanics itself because SE designed it that way. Now that is what you could call it "being smart" even if it's a silly way to win (even though I'm against enrage because it's boring and long, I can't deny the previous statement).
Bypassing tank swap mechanics didn't break the fight mechanics skipping them like they do with Ramuh, that's the difference. Previous tank swaps are simply waiting for stacks to acumulate and switching, while Ramuh requires items around the arena to do so, items that are aswell used in other mechanics of the fight such as breaking chains or removing extra orbs to decrease Ramuh's damage. If you had both tanks swapping constantly, you'd have to really take care on how many orbs do you wanna consume (extra ones) to leave enough for tanks and chained people constantly, making the fight more hectic at certain points when several mechanics meet at once, as it is designed to be.
Priorities.
Thing with that is, you're not replacing 2 classes. I'm not against it, but do you think you can ignore certain ramuh mechanics normally if it wasn't a native damage reduction? There will be changes in some way coming if this becomes the "norm". First coil is such old content now that it wouldn't make sense to go back and adjust that, since you still need your healers to do it so nothing is getting replaced :p
You still have to do that, tho. All the orbs still have to be removed, and during the post JB phase, you still have to watch how many orbs you're removing to leave enough for the chained people. Whether or not the different strategy is any easier is subjective. (Personally I think its way easier, but still)
The reason I think this is a good thing, however, is that it eliminates the need for a class that is still in severe shortage. Tanks will still be invited to Ramuh. But now, if there are no tanks available, a party doesn't have to sit around for an hour until two show up.
This is exactly the type of outside the box thinking that the game needs for future evolvement. Kudos!
There is a difference between clearing orbs and clearing orbs while watching out for the tanks' buff. It is way easier to mindlessly clear the orbs until Rolling Thunder comes. You'll always have enough orbs after Rolling Thunder and Chaotic Strike so that's not really an issue, especially tanks don't need orbs anymore. Well, it's not like clearing the orbs are hard anyway, unless all your DPS have tunnel vision. Did I mention I can bring another DPS and healer, or even 2 DPS instead of 2 tanks? Subjective? Really?
Now, I do think people will always go for the easy way, you can just look at T2. People will use this method, and it has nothing to do with tank shortage.
Hey, I'm not complaining though, if SE is not going to change anything, I'll just keep doing this. I've done it both ways and this is way easier anyway, why go against it lol
Except i have to keep myself (WHM) immune all the time, as if i get the line and cant spamheal titan, it's a wipe. So the immunity management is still here, to a point.
There is not a single Party Finder party left on Ragnarok looking for a Tank in the Ramuh fight.
Basicly means no more Ramuh Ex fights for Tanks.
Welp there's a Mrhappy guide on it now, guess it's gonna become a standard strat.
Yeah, the whole Shortest path to a reward is so desired nowadays.
