Can Blue magic be incorperated in this game?

Going for specific BLUe magick. 1000 needles would probably need a long cooldown it ciuld out-damage any other DPS in the game if it coulf be spammed.

White Wind however is good despite and maybe because it heales based on the caster's current HP. So it can be decent even with low MND

Sounds interesting, but with the wide range blue magic can have it should work as the hybrid role yoshi wants to implement, if you have different spells to chose from you could set, buff spells, debuff spells, damage spells, healing spells, dot spells, so blu should use a role that is not attached to one way of action, of course this is just theorycrafting.

With a decent CD it wouldn't be very different from a blm critical proc, they can easily make 2-3k dmg.

I had an idea I posted here a while ago (Flayer: Blue Mage & Beastmaster):

It was crafted before Yoshi mentioned a Hybrid role possibility so its spells focused just on DPS choosing spells based on whether you wanted to dish out physical or magical damage.

TL;DR for it is basically the Flayer learns 6 skill slots for 6 different classes in the games taxonomy (e.g. Beastkin, Vilekin). These slots can be filled with a spell used by the corresponding monster type (e.g. Vilekin Soul allows you to set a Vilekin spell like the chigoe's "Blood Drain") once it has been learned. The Flayer can only learn one spell per taxonomical class. When you equip the Blue Mage soul you gain additional taxonomical classes to learn and set spells for (i.e. Spoken, Voidsent) and you can learn 3-4 spells per taxonomical class. The general pattern for these is for each taxonomical class you can learn 1 buff, 1 magic spell and 1 physical spell. BLU can still only set one spell of the 3 it's learned for any one taxonomical class so it needs to plan ahead. Beastmaster turns those skills into pet summons but doesn't use pets the same way that SMN does. Instead it gains the advantage by swapping which pet it's using often and sheds its own enmity to its pet.

I can't help but feel that if they introduce blue magic, it won't be at all like past FF games. I'm willing to bet each job quest will involve you go to a location, fight a monster, turn in the quest, and automatically unlock the skill. The "meat" of blue mage will just be the fighting style and not actually obtaining spells.

As long as blue mage is the job and not the class I'll be happy lol.

How cool would it be to have smaller version of garuda tornadoes? Like how archanist has shadow flair, target area and wind damage over time =D that would be cool. Maybe get ifrit eruption, or his shock wave that knocks people back

My suggestion took that into account. Sort of.

I would learn aerial blast, Hellfire, earthen fury, tidal wave, judgement bolt, diamond dust, mega flare, landslide, well I think you guys know where I'm going with this

Step 1: "Soandso we have an important mission for you. There is a terrible <insert creature here> ravaging the countryside and you must go and stop it!"

Step 2: Run to designated spot and click glowy ground indicator

Step 3: be put into a battle against before mentioned creature

Step 4: Kill creature

Step 5: return to guild

Step 6: "Soandso I see you were able to defeat the creature! And what is this you acquired some of its power during the battle!?!? Splended!"

It would have to be a specific kind of monster.

Bad Breath being the strongest as of now, most likely. Though how it would actually be effectual in battles against bosses is beyond me.

I'm not sure how you misread that but to be clear. I'm saying every 5 levels your guild would send you after X monster that gives you Y skill.

Level 30? A giant crab that gives you shell shield

Level 35? A giant wasp that gives you pollon

Level 40? A giant buffalo that gives you head butt

Level 45? A magical clam that gives you water cannon

Level 50? A malboro that gives you bad breath

Tried to remember some skills from 11... Likely failed horribly



If you think it would be the pokemon collecting adventure 11 was.... Your sorely mistaken. Every class is perfectly balanced (far as they are concerned) with equal numbers of skills and very specific skillsets. They will not add in something with 5x the skills and free reign to combine them into anything you see fit.

What you stated is exactly what I was talking about. What I was referring to was specifically regarding Bad Breath, since it's usually a status attack and most end-game bosses are immune to status effects.

It will probably have some base skills. Mighty Guard, White Wind, etc, etc, etc depending on role. Those, as has been stated, would then be learned as normal Job quests at 30-50 that would involve fighting and getting hit by said skill.

In addition to that, BLU could be a very interesting tank class. The inspiration comes from FFX's Kimahri, a melee BLU. The core ability of the BLU would be "Learn". Learn would be a defensive cooldown, that would absorb and heavily mitigate (30-50%) the damage of the next enemy special move. Learn would do nothing against moves that weren't marked as being able to learn them. Learn gives you one charge of the ability you just absorbed. When charged, Learn changes to Unleash (or something like that), so you press the button again, and the BLU will use the ability back on the boss. IE a BLU would absorb Titan's table flip and then you could table flip back at him. Learn might also limit or prevent certain status effects, which would vary on a case by case basis (perhaps limiting the duration, or preventing some of the effects of something like bad breath).

It helps that there are also good defensively oriented blue magic skills to draw from. Mighty Guard or White Wind (would work like an AOE Second Wind), for instance.

By and large the base class doesn't matter that much, so this could easily be implemented as a Job based on an entirely new class, or as a 2nd job for the Lancer class (appropriate because kimahri also used lances and spears).

I'd say Beastmaster or the ever-mythologized Shepard to be the base class for BLU.

I could see Blue Mage as a special Soul Crystal that is not directly linked to any one class, but would grant access the Blue Magic skill list in exchange for loosing access to all Crossclass skills.

Heck, I think I'll write up a proposal in the Other Battle Systems forum.

Eh... Quite a few skills are useless. Look at the number of skills BLM has most people likely don't even remember exist.

Bad breath would be pretty rocking for places it would work... Like speed runs 0_o
