After watching the Duty Commence with the NA Reps, I've come to realize that half the stuff that gets posted doesn't even matter. I think the Reps will only translate and tell the DEVs what they like. So polls like this don't matter.
Fates are fine. Funneling content through them is not. Quit the game op.
i'm fine with them, as long as they aren't 3 hour spawn times like some of the animus ones were. that said, i feel they need to be redesigned to make them more interesting to complete. not just zerging an enemy. on the bosses, require some form of mechanics maybe?
The biggest issue with FATE is less concept and more execution. Where are the carriages carrying crystals that always get robbed by beastmen? How about the raids on town for people to temper?
More complex fights would also help. Take the concept of trial fights like Ifrit and translate those into a FATE fight. The would make people more happy about doing them.
Yeah... Cuz 110(ish) votes are deciding the wants of the player base XD.
(60 on hate 51 on like)
I'd really like to see fates be either more varied or more interactive. When I think of fates I actually enjoyed, outside from Odin and Behemoth the only ones that come of mind are the long chained ones like Highbridge/Dark Devices/Svara, or some of the 'big bosses' that would hand out minions (which few people actually do now). I don't really see anything horribly wrong with the normal ones though, other than they just very memorable even though I've done them dozens of times for some grind or another.
If it's not dropping allagan tomes or gc seals get rid of it...
But they give GC seals
The only problem with FATEs are that there are too many standard FATEs and too little unique FATEs
What SE can add:
A FATE where you need to speak to an NPC first and only the first 8 players can do the FATE (short repop timer) :

FATEs that happen in a whole zone (or at least in a very very big circle):

FATEs where you fight with emotes instead with weapons:

The one christmas FATE, where you jump into the AoE circle to get a buff, was a start into the right direction to make FATEs more funny.
I'll be one of the first to admit that I embraced the FATE system when it first became available to test in beta, and then steadily lost interest as the months went by because there were so few unique FATEs muddled in with the many repetitive ones. Perhaps if there were more unique FATEs that required more than a single IQ point to complete then my interest will be renewed in this system.
They work for incidental side-content - I got quite addicted while levelling to doing FATEs that happened to pop near me, and Odin and Behemoth spawns still draw a big crowd (and have some actual threat to them). But as a main focus, either when grinding FATEs or waiting for FATEs, they're far from engaging.
My personal opinion about FATEs:
They fill a certain role in the game. If they were removed, something would have to be implemented to replace them in the role they fill.
That said, I would like fates to be a little more rare and give better rewards. And that they're taken out of gear progression, other than some of them maybe giving tomes.
Don't need to remove them but if they plan to add more of the same type of FATEs we already have then i rather they just don't add anymore.
I wish FATEs had something different than just killing monsters, maybe in the future they can be more creative and add different objectives and mechanics. The system has a lot of potential, it's just not being fully used at the moment.
I'd say I fall into both categories. I love the idea behind the system, but I'd also like to see more involved FATES. Maybe some more mechanics behind them, other than kill, and kill and bring stuff to a person or escort.
More story ones would be nice as well, that cultist one near Camp Bluefrog was awesome, the way it progressed from killing cultist, to killing their boss, to killing the embodiment of their God.
I think I was spoiled by Rift. That game had the best public events that had lasting consequences.
I like the ones that have a semblance of a longer story, like the Highbridge acts and the Dalamud cultists. The other ones are just random and boring.
