SE screwed up big time on this one and we need to hold their feet to the flames so they remember to not do this again.

1500myth is extremely easy compare with 12 ATMA grind!!
I have started to grind ATMA again, OMG was I cursed ?? I don't feel it is RNG.
It works like math, and by some reason, (maybe player name is a factor)someone will have less chance to get a drop.
SE please fix it! It is extremely tedious and dispressing to grind ATMA just bcoz you have much lower drop rate than other randomly.
It really comes down to two things:
1) Beating your head on actual challenging content is fun. Trying to beat Titan HM, the EX content, BCoB... That is fun.
2) Beating your head on low-level FATE content and the RNG is NOT challenging and NOT fun. Not even sure how it's remotely supposed to be fun.
All the steps of gearing up for your Relic and Zenith were fun. You had challenges and a bit of grinding, but it all fit smoothly together, and flowed well, with a good story to boot.
Obtaining your Atma weapon is the exact polar opposite of that. Running around from spot to spot on the map, fighting under-leveled content over and over and over again for no reward other than maybe you hit the magic RNG win? How is that fun? Why should improving your character not be fun? I can't even use FATE grinding for Atmas as a means to also level my lower-level classes, because you must have your Zenith weapon equipped. There's no benefit other than maybe a couple dozen seals per attempt and maybe some Exp for your companion if you remember to have it out.
How is it challenging? How is it work? Work is trying to learn a fight. Work is getting teamwork down to defeat a hard boss fight. Work is not running to a FATE and mashing 1 and 2 until you win. That's tedium. Time does not equal work.
You talking bout this one?
Thankfully, according to the last conference event yoshida did pre live letter, they are considering an award for having all Novus weapons.
I hope they reward a barding made up of all the weapons welded together, kind of like the sword throne in Game of Thrones, lol...
Oh look, another Atma thread.
Sacrifice an atma to the RNG Gods and they will bless you with bountiful amounts of atma. Do it.
You have to beat Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan in hard mode to get the Zenith which is required to farm Atma. You have to do A Relic Reborn, quest. I only remember because I've done it twice and I have to do it again for the Bravura Zenith. This warrior was probably doing Howling Eye Hard with his standard Bravura weapon, and he had to beat Garuda with it for the ARR quest. He can't even farm Atma with the vanilla Bravura.
I dunno.. i got 6 atmas yesterday, and did one fate this morning before work and got another.
I'm 7/12 started Friday night did 112 FATES! Sucks for people who don't have the time or patience! They can increase the rate a little bit my friend spent 40hrs total farming and he only has 2. RNG is a bitch sometimes
IMO there is nothing wrong with the drop rates. Yes, it can be annoying to spend a few hours farming FATEs and getting nothing, but having just got my final ATMA, (8 days, about 2 hours farming per day), it is totally worth it: the sense of achievement for sticking at it is pretty good :)
If you don't like it, don't do it, lol. Why people think endless whining on a forum is going to help I have no idea, lol.
ATMA does suck, and after only getting like 2 ATMA after forever grinding I was pretty much done with it. However, since hunts have come out it's a nice distraction since my FC always shouts them out. So while ATMA grinding (at 9/12 now) I just leave and do hunts and then Return to the ATMA area I was in. Not to mention getting in queue for ST (UAT/Oil of Time anyone). So there's plenty of stuff to do now to distract you from the ATMA grind.
Because that's how change happens. Sure you see it as "endless whining", but when dies it not become that? Especially important when it's concerning outdated game designs (like RNG drops, long winded attunements/pre-requites). I know players who still have not touched ST because no one queues for labyrinth, ever. Some of them have suggested making a roulette for the Crystal Tower series (I mean you have it for main scenario which is only two different raids), is that them whining that they can't get a party to clear labyrinth to unlock ST?
And it's part of the relic questline; It gets expanded and honestly it's not something that should be ignored for future patches if it's causing that much of an artificial blockade for progress. If the only justification for this is "if you don't like it, don't do it", then what happens if it comes to the point that Coil 3 or future raids are just utter garbage, not just for you but as the general consensus from the playerbase?
Or maybe the next tier of HA drops work on a token system where you'd need 10 Unidentifiable tombstones to trade in for the weapon, and each tomestone is specific to each of the nine (soon to be ten). The bosses also drop material like Golden Dodo eggs and Maximum Powder, and it is a weekly clear.
I haven't had problems with queues for Labyrinth on our server (Siren), but I will say that one needs to be prepared for a ton of wipes. Even if your party is prepared, there are 2 others ready to make the experience a little too long than it needs to be. With the value of 200 tomes, it was a clear winner for many, but as more and more people (myself included) use the hunts as a way to get more myth tomes (I max out almost daily), those numbers seem to be dwindling fast. I will admit that it's a whole lot easier to max yourself out through them.
Even as lucky as I am with atma drops, I have no interest in re-doing the entire thing and then another atma weapon on its way to Animus and Novus. Ugh! I have to admit that it's less tedious than the Minecraft punching trees to get the wood and get the wood to build a house stuff. :D
My atma grind was fairly long. After getting a couple as soon as they came out, I stagnated, got annoyed, and stopped doing them. When I tried to get back into it, it took over a week of grinding hours a day for my next atma, and once I got it, I decided to approach atma more casually. Instead of grind grind grind, I decided I would just do fates on my downtime, waiting for queues to pop or if I didn't have much time left in my play session to do anything else.
Even if you only get to one fate today, that's another chance at an atma. You don't even need a gold, just run in and start whacking mobs. I get that atmas aren't fun, and they're a plainly designed time sink, but if you're really interested in the relic line, you're gonna have to knuckle down and keep chipping away at it. You're working towards an i110 weapon that isn't going to be obsolete any time soon. In fact, once you have it, it'll probably be your primary weapon through much of 2.4, unless you're a hardcore raider, in which case you'd already have a high allag weapon. I don't feel the myth grind is too prohibitive afterwards either, as I often cap myth tomes once or twice between each trial of the braves, not even doing hunts or anything different from my usual playstyle.
The much more accessible unweathered weapon (thanks to ST having tomestones and hunts giving sands) is just as good as the novus (save for some classes due to stat allocation). Whose to say that the next lineup of weapons won't be just as easy to get access to compared to the next tier of weapons? Just the Atma portion alone is horsecrap when it comes to this.
If all you're doing is whacking a mob for bronze and then running off, then it's pretty much a counter-intuitive game design for Atma. It's not helping lowbies who actually need the FATE; it's just more terrible game design.
And on that line, it took me 3 weeks of spending 3-4 hours a day doing FATEs for all 12, that was around 350 or so. The rates are not suddenly going to change if I just did one FATE a day, and assuming the same stars would allign for ie, it'd take me a year to finish Atma at that; I don't get why you'd even suggest one Fate/day for this to justify the low drop rates.
And I don't think anyone ever thinks the myths are a problem (now anyway, its so accessible because of hunts). Like I mentioned before the primary target of all the haze is Atma and Atma only.
I don't suggest one fate a day, I suggest doing SOMETHING. Players that get discouraged from atmas and stop doing them altogether will never get their atma weapon, and won't progress any further down the relic train. My comment about fate ratings is simply to encourage players to participate in every fate that pops up, even if it only has a few seconds left. Pushing to clear fates will cause more fates to pop faster, waiting 15 minutes for them to time out so you just get a bronze would be absurdly counterproductive.
I'll admit that there is a fair amount of epeen stroking when it comes to relics, and that probably has a large impact on how SE is handling the current situation. I can't imagine a future atma nerf having a largely negative impact from the community, but I'm perfectly fine with settling in for the grind if it means having a weapon that not everyone will have. As you said, there are other weapons that are easier to obtain, just get one of those if you are in desperate need of a raid worthy weapon.
The problem with that is that it requires any fate within the specific area. I'm not gonna be in DoL while I'm searching for an Atma because I'm not looking for a particular FATE. I can't even level my alt classes because the FATE has to be finished with Zenith equipped for when the rewards get handed out (which is the bulk of the exp.)
The fact that you can get Atma from a bronze rating just encourages you to tag a FATE and move onto the next one, especially when there are lowbies or other people who are clearing the FATE. You're not burdened to stick with it. I can say this is definitely the case because I've done it plenty of times when Atma searching in LLN and MLN.
And lastly, I don't get the epeen sanctification from getting the Atma portion finished. I was more on the line of "its finally over" than "woot finished it", especially when the end reward doesn't even get you any stat boosts (and you lose the cosmetic glow to boot). Unless people like to flaunt their patience, insanity or being blessed with RNG. I don't see what else there is to show off about having an atma weapon other than that.
I don't get your line of reasoning, first, you say that the don't like it don't do it reasoning is flawed, then immediately proceed that by stating that unweathered weapons are easily obtained for a fraction of the effort. Then you say that tagging fates is counterproductive, and yet you've done so yourself on multiple occasions. Both you and I have put in the time and effort for the atma grind, regardless of what your motivations for doing so actually are. Mine are largely for vanity, but as stated before, if you need a raid weapon, keep raiding! You'll get a decent weapon in much less time. Since my raid group is in a rut due to rampant scheduling conflicts, I'm cool with having a customizable weapon for my main class that will remain useable and upgradeable, and putting UAT's towards alts that I may play from time to time. Atmas have been around for so long that one would imagine the average player has at least attempted the grind, and is adequately capable of deciding for themselves whether they want to sit through the fate grind or would rather wait until a nerf has been announced, which will presumably be at the next step of the relic chain. I'm not sure if it's been explicitly stated that a nerf will be incoming, but it's definitely been stated that they don't want to step on the toes of those who have pumped out their atmas, be it through successful prayers to RNG gods, persistence, or what have you.
If atmas were a threat to SE's continued subs, one would imagine that they would have been changed by now. Not so long ago, zenith relics were a dime a dozen, despite being powerful enough to get you started all the way into 2.3 and scob, were more of a standard, and you likely had at least one, perhaps multiple by the time 2.2 hit. Your only restiriction was a meager weekly tomestone lockout. Atmas provide a somewhat exclusive, somewhat shameless time sink that, as you stated, only the patient, insane, or lucky get to enjoy. I don't think there's inherently anything wrong with that. It doesn't prevent you from experiencing any sort of content whatsoever, except perhaps a fairly nice looking UI for the trial of the braves.
> "Dont like it, dont do it" is probably the worse excuse for game design. We might as well just slam that into any content that are causing players grief whether it be difficulty or design. There's not much else to say about that.
> What is the intent making any FATEs in the area be eligible for an atma, let alone throwing you into low level areas like LLN and WT? The general census was that it is to help keep low level area FATES booming and going. It's the most efficient way speed-wise, but it's counter-productive to the design of FATEs to begin with. I'm not helping anyone but myself by tagging and leaving a FATE for the sake of getting more cleared in a timeframe
> How is "Upgrading" the relic weapon any different from replacing a raid drop or tomestone weapon? Unless it ends up being on par with current end-raid tier or being better (which has never been the case), the point is kind of moot other than for lore reasons (which is also pretty terrible at least for the Atma, not sure if I mentioned it here)
> "Step on the toes of players who already earned their atma". This is the iffy thing... Just how much "Effort" did every player put into Atma? There are probably people who got theirs within the week of release, if not days, yet you have people who spent weeks or more and still not see an atma. It gets pretty damn demoralizing and frustrating when someone randomly strolls along and gets an Atma on their first fate when you've spent weeks into that one. Have I not already pissed off some of my FC members and people who got their atma weeks later, if they even got it?
>If I didn't mention it in this thread already, the Atma portion is just utterly pointless, especially when the Animus Book and Novus scrolls are so much more engaging. They give you a weapon with supposedly new found powers, only it has the same stats as your zenith and even losing the cosmetic glow.
And lastly, this is specifically for the atma portion as I mentioned. The RNG, the poorly worded lore, the reward, just....everything about it. I probably wouldn't have too much of a problem with if it just made a little bit more sense in comparison to the other steps of the relic questline.
I spent 43 hours on one atma before giving up, finally doing them again, spent another few hours grinding fates for that same atma before I got it. The next atma took me 45 minutes, then 17 hours for the one after that. I have half of them now and probably already spent 4x longer than the average person who got all 12 already. Gathering atmas is HORRIBLE design and is really making me not even want to play this game. Btw once I finally got that atma I wasn't happy for seeing it, my mind was too dull at that point, I was just relieved I could finally leave that god forsaken zone.
8/12 after two weeks, 3 hours a night. The grind is real. But it's a mental exercise, something I can say "I spent 90 hours doing the same thing over and over for a shiny."
tbh, I think the animus fates are far worse than the atma grind. at least you are doing something for the atma, as opposed to just sitting in a zone waiting for a fate that has a 3-4 hour respawn timer...(I am aware I could level alts etc, but I currently don't have any that can lvl in the areas I need for the fates).
Mmm, whole post felt so good I might need a cigarette after. And I don't smoke!
Well said, all around. SE made it clear to me: Relic is not my cup off tea, post-Zenith. And more than that, FATES were never all that interesting to me anyways, and I'm tired of being force-fed the FATE system, even if they pretty it up, lavish me with reward incentives and call it "The Hunt". . . Pass me a Gerolt/tome weapon and point me to the Coils/future high endgame raids.
Stick with it. You're definitely not gonna get a drop if you give up. For every atma that took me days, another dropped fairly quickly.
Yay, got my 1000 fate achievement. At 9/12, hopefully won't have to do another 1000 to get the last 3.
Keep on swimming, keep on swimming.....
I have spent 30 hours in the last week and not one atma drop. This is ridiculous, if i were getting something in return like say being able to level another class it wouldn't be so bad. Square Enix plz fix this it is really sad spending 5 hours a day and nothing in return for my efforts. To all you elitists i dont want it for nothing I am not a Liberal I want to work for it but this is kind of rediculous. If SE does increase the drop rates I would say give the people who got it on the lower drop rates something for their effort so everyone is happy. The idea i have is give them maybe another full set of atma for a another class that way everyoone is happy. This is just crazy how bad the drop rates are, it kind of reminds me of Star Wars Galaxies for the Holocrons for the Jedi Master Cloak. I remember farming all day there for the holocrons but at least i was getting something out of it. I was getting gear i could Reverse Engineer to make money.
This might be the saltiest thread on the forum...
