I've been seeing a lot of Arcanists/ Scholars/ Summoners lately in the roulettes.
There seems to be a high amount of arcanist based elistism that think their way is the only way, and everyone else falls at their knees when they arrive. Schs and smn love to talk the good talk but rarely make the good walk. (That isn't to say mnk love is left out)
A good whm is just as good if not better then a sch, suffice to say almost any content has been done amirably with 2xwhm where 2xsch is a huge nightmare.
Good is good regardless of jobs. A super whm can pre-cast those stoneskins and cure's etc to make a sch sit in the corner and twiddle their thumbs all the same as the reverse.
And really shielding is over rated, any sch will tell you that. There's a time and situation for everything. I rarely even aqu these days until pressure points to sustain a near infinite supply of mp heals, and burst ratio.
There is enough diversity that there isn't really any lacking classes, though tanks are always in high demand. I would say PLD almost always in high demand.
Much like how 2x sch vs 2xwhm is a nightmare on groups 2xWars is a nightmare as oppose to 2xpld.
So I would say in general, PLD is least played because the pool of pld is just too small for what they are needed for.
Skills aside there is always a fairly high demand for a PLD to join anything and everything, and a 2nd pld doesn't quite hurt very much as long as skill is there or even not.
It's because there's a difference between the two. Sometimes, for example on T9, you want the shield up before the damage hits just due to the sheer amount of it. In other cases, such as Titan stomps, the damage itself isn't all that much, so allowing the heal portion to take effect as well is preferable.
The least played has to be Warrior. Everyone who is a DPS and think their class is the least played based on DF results: When you get paired in DF the system tries to make it so there is one melee and one ranged DPS, if there is not they try to atleast make so 2 people are not the same class. Therefore it is easy to think there is no players of your own class if you use DF as the poll.
Can't remember if I EVER saw a Summoner in a party in the last three months. Really can't remember. I have one but never touched him besides levelling up.
On my server it has to be SMN for sure...
My main until 2.2 was SMN, but I got tired of it, which might be the case for a lot of other players it seems. There's a lot of things they need to change with SMN for me to go back there again.
if you had stop at #17 when 3 ppl said you are a bad SCH, you can advoide get burn
u guys wont believe me when i personally say blm. im sorry but i RARELY see them via df.
ive been gettin double bards triple bards tho.
smn and mnk are up there as well
My personal experience has been an absolute dearth of Monks. I see plenty of everything else on my data center, but even if I pop into Crystal Tower (where there's 12 total DPS), I'm the only monk 80% of the time. I think that out of the 100+ players in my FC, I might be one of the only players who 'mains' Monk as their DPS of choice, too. I see far more of every other DPS.
It's kept me from almost ever having to contest a Monk drop in any content, which is nice, but still...???
The thing with SCH is (atleast on my server I think) that the better ones are in a static or doing Coil/Primals with their FC buddies. Same goes for tanks, but that is server wide..
If you open PF now, you'd see 9 out of 10 groups waiting for atleast 1 tank.
I've seen a lot less monks. I typically run as ranged DPS and usually get matched with a dragoon or another ranged DPS (usually BLM or bard).
I wonder what reasons could possibly be behind rejecting something that works well but is not popular. You did a statement but without any ground for it.
I agree that trying to reason with people who are lacking enough perception to grasp a certain concept is pointless, but i found out later a big misunderstanding have taken a place, and hopefully everyone understood each other.
I will keep my thoughts for myself then.
Summoner is the best dps in the game probably (especially when you can do Bane sometimes, and don't have to move every 5 seconds), up there with Monk - when played well anyway. And one of the best Coil ones.Quote:

It's just inferior for stuff like speed running Brayflox HM because it has no decent spell that can hit 6-9-12 mobs at once (Miasma 2 does horrible damage, Blizzard 2 would get you hit yourself (by the raptor-birds and coeurls) plus MP issues - and Bane only hits 4 enemies, first target included).
ETA:
I've been playing Arcanist since launch. I got my Scholar relic in November, and my Summoner relic in January. They currently both have Atmas.
I love to say I don't follow common advice on Scholar (like having the pet on Obey if it's Selene, or to macro Embrace at all). I don't macro anything except the Eos regen (after Rouse and Fey Illumination), and nowadays don't even use Eos. I don't pre-heal for hits (I'm nowhere near T9), since I haven't done any encounter thus far enough times to have muscle memory of pre-healing. And I never should have to to be considered good, either.
I also don't follow common advice on Summoner. For example, I keep every pet on Sic. I let Garuda-egi decide when Contagion is going. But I'll at least move, heel or Steady her when she could cause issues (every phase change).
And I have done the mortal sin of not leveling my Archer above 20 (yet), so I don't have Quelling Strikes. Swiftcast was much more important to me.
I don't announce I'm resurrecting. I don't silence with Selene. I keep pets on Sic. I don't macro Embrace with Adlo. And I use Bio first in my DoT rotation. All sins to the Holy Bible of the Arcanist.
Yet my FC can't say much negative about my role as Scholar main or Summoner main (both i93 currently). I just might not be Super Elitist Over 9000 level healer, or dps. I do more than just the job though. And I AM lazy. What I'm doing works. And I won't solo-heal primals/coil intentionally (only if the other heals die), my e-peen is fine without any stroking.
Tanks. on Sarg, they are nearly always the last role to fill.
I've had maybe 3 or 4 smn in my pt since 2.1. Not complaining though, either I got stuck with all the bad smns in the game since release, or their damage (even with all DoTs up) just plain sucks. One time in t4, I went blm, we had a smn, I swear I was the only thing damaging the soldiers lol
bad ____ detected
I think on my server there's a lack of scholars and dragoons. There is loads and loads and LOADS of bards, meanwhile most coil groups I see shouting for members seem to be looking for scholars and dragoons just seem to have been replaced by monks.
Tanks of course seem short on supply, think this is the case in most servers.
I feel like out of every single class? Tanks are really rare to find because of this their Q times are very fast and they are often the needed roles filled in but I don't think many people find tanking as fun as it could be like pld's famous 1, 2, 3 and rare 4 button pressings (Caution: this does not make keeping the hate off some dps easy.) @-@
Secondary being healers though (SCH feel like the more rare ones in this case,) and finally DPS however I often don't see many SMNs myself. :x
Least played job...?
1) that Gun-class we don't have yet. There's a guild sign in Limsa & a few NPC's wear & use guns. But no players yet :-/
2) Red Mage. A few mobs cast the en-line of spells, traditionally a Red Mage ability. But no players yet :-/
SCH? If I were to represent classes from most rarest to least:
Gladiator >> Marauder >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Arcanist
I can't say what job is least-played on my server/data center (while I want to say SMN/MNK...that's ALL I run into when I DF as a tank >.>) the jobs that seem to be in highest demand for statics are SMN and melee (with a shift towards DRG; occasional need for tanks and heals, but I've seen a ton more PFs LF SMN and/or melee). Now, this doesn't mean that these are the least-played jobs, but that they are the least-played well.
I do see a ton of BLM and BRD still, with slots for those filling fast in PFs. There are still a large number of DRG in PFs...but the majority are just bad (which is why groups always seem to have open DRG spots...). Depending on content, healers or tanks are usually last to fill (Ifrit, T1 and T4, Tanks are rare. T2, T5 or Levi, Healers are never around)
And I do see bad examples of every class, a lot. Its most obvious when a Heal or Tank is bad but bad DPS also drag parties down (I hate seeing BRD die to easily avoidable AoEs...the one class that has almost 100% uptime while dodging...and yes, I've had some say they couldn't dodge because they were DPSing and moving is bad...really? You are not a BLM!)
Pretty much, if you want to "be wanted", roll a tank or heal...but make sure to be a *good* tank or heal. If you want to DPS, don't roll a BRD or BLM, and if you roll a SMN or DRG, make sure you are really good at your job (MNK, well yeah, be good at it, but from what I've seen from MNKs outside my static, its easier to pass under the radar since their DPS is naturally high as long as they keep up GL3 and positionals are more forgiving to them than they are to DRG)
Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll try SCH then after I get my DRG to 50 since I still don't have a Lv 50 yet >_<
I (Pld) did a duty roulette dungeon the other day, in the low-level dungeon category (I try to run one of these every day, to help new players... and I like the low level dungeons). When it popped, I found myself in a party with an Arcanist, a Summoner, and a Scholar. I was all "Wait... wait... I'm the only one here without a book? Aieeeee!" Clearly, SE needs to add a tome-based tank other than Carbuncle.
For DPS, DRG, MNK and SMN are all up there in terms of skill-cap, probably in that order. They each have their own way of doing things though, so it can be hard to say which is the hardest of the three. BLM and BRD...eh, low skill-caps compared to the others
Heals, its not really comparable, as it relies more on whether you are a naturally reactive healer (WHM) or preventative healer (SCH). You can understand the theory for both, but if you are a natural preventative healer, you can struggle with WHM but find SCH almost boringly easy.
I hardly ever come across SMN in duty finder.
I think bards are the most common class I see.
Well there are two seperate data base centers that do not interact at all as far as df goes. so thats something to take into account and for pf it's determined just on your server. I'll admit on some days it does seem like all there are healer wise is schs though, but I do see days were they seem pretty rare.
NO way is a blm low on the skill totem poll. They can be as reliable and unreliable as any other class. Same with Brd. While brd does bottom out, good bards are darn good bard. darn good.
A lot of unsatisfied blms switch to smn only to be similar unsatisfied just the same. I don't believe any of this elitist "high skill cap" nonesense, because every job contributes just as hard and push just as high with every attempt at content.
There is always going to be ways to optimize your approach every time you do content on that class.
Least played it's hard to say for pf/df because people switch jobs to whatever is the fastest to get a slot and run things.
But in the end tanks are always lacking.
Completely agree, if ranged DPS was as easy as some people make out then there wouldn't be such a big difference between a good one and a bad one. In reality though the difference is pretty big, not just in terms of raw DPS but also how they use their utility spells like songs or E4E.
As for least played job..... one of the tanks I guess, I see most jobs quite frequently though ranged DPS is more common than melee it seems.
Tanks and Healers, most of the time if a mistake is made by that class the player gets degraded and burned on his lack of skills instead of trying to fix why he made that mistake. Whether is that person being new to the class or being a noob, we don't play games so we can get yelled out.
