The main question to consider before selecting a company is will the rewards be different for each company? Lets be honest, we mostly do this for the rewards.
There's also a bunch of other questions...
will it be possible to enlist with more than one company?
When it says 'you will be asked to undertake a selection of missions' I'm assuming this will be similar to the guild leve system. How will company quests appear in the journal? Will there be a separate company quest section? or will the count towards guild leves? or be added to the normal quests section?
I'm guessing it's guild leve type quests to raise your rank and sidequests becoming available as your company rank increases, all of which reward company marks. Then the company marks can be used to purchase items/skills/whatever from the npc with unlocking further items after completing company quests (just like raising a class whereby you do the quest and you are able to purchase further skills/traits).
How does the company rank increase? Do we accumulate allegience points, or will this be gauged by company storyline progression?
Will company rank be a progression bar much like SP bars, with points being accumulated per kill during company quests?
I'll most likely just have to wait and see, but it would be nice if there were some more answers.
I am well aware of this, but even some of the side quests in XI had some CS and some sort of "issue" behind have to do it" For example the side quest in Sandie where you had to bring honey to the guy. I remember doing that over and over and over again, but the first time I met him, there was a small CS.
I just hope that the Grand Companies implementation isn't a let down :/ That's all. I also hope that w/e it is, will also allow those of us who are going the solo/duo/small group route, will be able to enjoy it as well.
So I'm just going to hold my praise for now until I see it for myself. That's fair right? I just don't want to get my hopes up and then all of a sudden be let down :/
Will grand companies be to party play what leves will be to solo play?
*speculates*
I'm confused about the part in bold, does that mean that there are only missions available when you're at the recruitment level or there are only the initial recruitment missions?Quote:
Missions and Rewards
As a recruit, you will be asked to undertake a selection of missions, the completion of which will earn you rich rewards. The nature of the reward will vary based on mission difficulty and your contribution to the organization. Prove your worth by unfailingly completing the tasks assigned, and you will climb the ranks and gain access to all the benefits associated with higher standing.
Missions for recruits will be available in patch 1.18, with those for higher ranks scheduled to be added in 1.19 and beyond.
The main differance between ffxi and ffxiv is that they had to get more content out fast, which is probably why the sidequests had no cutscenes, it takes alot less work to program an echo command to output text than it does to create a cutscene. SE didnt have this problem with ffxi, because people were enjoying it.
Because they rushed the game out with no content, they had to rush sidequests out, however after the comminities responce to that, i dont think they would make that mistake again.
Well, if indeed companies are apart of the "main" scenario, I would imagine that solo players can partake in it. Considering I think it's been said somewhere that they want everyone to be able to get through main scenarios *please correct me if I am wrong on this* Or at least hope that small groups can do it.
Solo leves to me are just mind numbing...good example, last night my husband and I were crafting, and we duo together, and he was so dead set on /rage quitting because it's just so monotonous. I thought leves were meant as a slow progression of character development in the way abilities for those who have little time and I thought that main scenarios were to be enjoyed by all, regardless of play style (solo play or group play). Or am I just all wrong?
I pledge allegiance to the flame.
(though I'll do all 3 "recruitment" scenarios just for the Lore)

It was, but the Japanese were patiant enough to hang on, and I dont beleave it took as long to sort problems out, because FFXI was released on PS2, with an engine that was designed for PS2 because at that time all final fantasy games were released on PS2. Crystal Tools was mainly designed for PS3 and OpenGL so needed to be adapted to PC and DirectX, It would probably have been easier if they used OpenGL for PC but they probably looked into it and found better features for the PC verison using DirectX.
Even if they had used OpenGL, because of the differances in PC and PS£ hardware and software, they would have still needed to adapt Crystal tools to PC.
That was another reason the launch failed, because everyone got thier complaints heard, atleast if they released it in Japan first they could hopefully keep enough interest to fix it, to get better press in the other regions, then it wouldnt be as bad a failure.
And why cant you and Seirra_Lanzce be on Mysidia? would be so cool to play with you guys
Thing that has me a little worried about Grand Companies is that Yoshi never lists FFXI in his list of games he has played, which is fine, but I guess I am personally hoping to see more FFXI-esque or -inspired content (e.g., Assault, Salvage, Nyzul). I am afraid, given his experiences, he might go more the WoW, Rift, that-type-of-mmo route for content. You could argue, "Well some content is better than no content (which is the current case)". And you would be right, but I don't want any content, I want good content. To me the latter isn't good. I rather wait longer for something inspired then churned out go-fetch quests with over-powered rewards (reminds me of when I did first Burning Crusades quests and the armor was 20xs stronger then the stuff I had).
Anyway, those are my concerns, I hope my instincts are wrong and they end up creating an awesome new system.
My only question is why they would have Grand Company Seals not listed under the currency tab?? But that's a minor trifle. Overall the whole endeavor looks quite promising.
:3 ok that enough of spams we make, overall grand companies.. i'll pledge my loyalty to err.... The Order of the Twin Adder!! :X Long live Guridania!!!
I am looking forward to spending more time in Gridania, would be nice one day not to have to visit Ul'Dah so much.
