I wish this were real ><
Actually very disappointed this is just a Fool's Day joke, as I've wanted a system like this since I began playing. Just being able to do "daily" type quests for or give gifts to my favorite NPCs would really make my play time even more enjoyable.
Hopefully they actually give thought to implementing something similar to this in the future. (And without a lot of stupid restrictions)
ROFL first all the Yoshidas and now this. Props, SE.
I've made a thread that requests something similar to what you're asking for. However, we need more posts in it to have any hope of it reaching the devs. So if you really want something like this to happen, join the discussion!
Suggestions for Path Companions Return
Well, even presuming they did decide to take this beyond an April Fool's prank, you're going to have to strike a balance between stupid restrictions and genericness.
On the generic end of the spectrum, you could woo any NPC, but they'd all give bland, identical responses, because SE simply doesn't have the time or manpower to give personalities to every NPC in the game. (Aw, but the west gate Wood Wailer at Quarrymill is so dreamy!!!)
On the stupid restrictions side, if you limit the selection to just the main NPCs in the game (heads of state, Scions, etc), it gives more room for meaningful romantic dialogue, but that's a bummer for folks that are interested in NPCs that didn't "make the cut" (Redolent Rose is just so dapper! He's head of the Weaver's Guild, why isn't he in the Favour system?)
And for people pining after Primals, dating NPCs that only show up in cutscenes or as enemies introduces a whole host of new problems. I gotta say, though, Titan may be ugly as sin, but his papa bear protectiveness of his Kobold people is pretty adorable if you can look past the homocidal rage. :3
If this was a single player game, yeah - I've yet to see an MMO that used this in a serious fashion, even PSO2's system was more of a 'fun little when your friend is not online" type of system and if the person is the opposite gender from you they'll 'fall for you' in a sense.
Guys...
Guys... but really... can this be a thing?
I want this to be a thing.
you are the only one twisting things out of proportion. it's okay if you don't understand. it's no worries. it's not even important.
correct and correct. these were exactly a couple of the angles i was trying to describe. i am just not good at explaining things. and tend to cause much miscommunication.
either way... again it really is not important. :/
Make it happen, Yoshida!
If this wasn't just an April Fool's joke, my character would definitely try to woo Minfilia.
I know it's a joke but I wish it were real. My headcanon for my character is already that she's in a relationship with my husband's manqote, but this sounds like it could be so cute.
And funny, once 14 year olds start fighting over npcs and getting jealous if someone else views their character as being with the same npc.
If it wasn't an April fools joke.
Individual housing + waifu + yearly kids = life.
The possibilities would've been endless.
this is a terrible april fool's because now I wish it was a real thing :(
Who wouldn't? And it can be a useful mechanic that gives purpose to individual housing in the long run.
Wife/Husband can be disciplines of the hand and work from inside the house as long as you buy the items like with current FC housing.
You can later have kids. They can be disciple of the hand or land or get them to become discipline of war and magic for monster hunting.
I remember people saying the same thing about last year's April Fool's.
Yeah, why bother RPing with real people, with the potential to be more intimate, romantic, and meaningful.......when you could have a programmed response instead from a cardboard cut-out? ....... oh yes, I remember now! Lack of rewards and too much imagination and work. This generation of players makes me sad :/
Wait what?
You're just messing with me then.
You could maybe make the argument that that is the case. But I've never seen anyone who does.
And no it's not important, please don't misunderstand I'm not attacking you. I just usually sound like an asshat.
Because it doesn't make sense. MMORPGS have been around since before the holy trinity. The holy trinity isn't even the same anymore- it used to be healer/tank/crowd control.
Everyone knows what an rpg is... and that it was translated to online gaming and became a morpg then a mmorpg... and that the rpg always meant the same as it did in the original rpg. I am not sure what "role" you play if you were a support character/hybrid according to him...
When I finished reading I was just like...

Silly Square
That Garuda romance though.
shame it was an april fools joke, oh Thranced ;;
I'll never get to cuddle with Miounne. I don't want to live in this realm anymore.
I'd actually love to see something like this implemented, but since that's really unlikely, it'd be neat to see the stats on some of the male characters.
*IF*, somehow, some way, they ever really DID decide to add romancing NPCs into FFXIV, though, my wishlist would be Thancred, Merlwyb and Foulques, in approximately that order.
I would like to be with Rowena and get free gear for life.
I'm honestly surprised that they did not do something with Thancred for the "Favor system". Or Hildibrand or Momodi for that matter.
Classic tsundere with a touch of borg queen (the whole "looking for a counterpart; an equal" bit). With that in mind, I'll just leave this here:

PS: I'd camp at Kan-E-Senna's house if this thing was real.
I would like the favour system to be implemented, one way or another. As a matter of fact, in the latest dev blog post, they mention "If there are enough burning requests, maybe Yoshi-P will...?"
Though that is likely just there for humour, much to our dismay haha.
Can I just have the favour system for my retainer. I'd be happy then
