New Hairstyles and Clipping Issues

Just gonna throw my two cents in, that I'd rather have clipping than a hairstyle change when I have a collar. I played L2 for years, and it also put hair up rather than clip it, and I never did like the up-style nearly as well as the long. I've got a femroe with one of the longest styles in the game right now, and it'd just ruin it if it magically went into a bun/high ponytail whenever she put on certain gear.

I wouldn't be 100% against harstyles switching with certain gear since in some cases it makes sense. I mean really...if you have a huge axe or polearm strapped to your back you're going to tie your hair up otherwise you're risking catching it when you draw your weapon. The middle image in the TERA images however would upset a lot of people like yourself and it doesn't entirely make sense unless the hair brushing against the collar was really annoying the character lol

Too often I was stuck with some crappy hairstyle I didn't like instead of my chosen one in that game because my armor dictated it so. Especially when Tera had so damn little variation between player characters anyways. So yeah... pass.

No thanks. 25% of the reason I didn't buy TERA was the way they ignored your chosen hairstyle to avoid clipping. (25% was because of censorship, and 50% because the staff was idiots)

Oh look, I just solved 80% of clipping issues via creating a standard for gear-rigging.

You don't seem to understand just how silly you sound. You are coming off like someone who took two classes in basic rigging with absolutely no background on the technical elements when it comes to executing that rig into something like this. I'm sure if it was an easy fix they would have gone ahead and done it, or at least someone else in the industry would have. Every MMO I've encountered has had myriad rigging issues.

They said they plan on improving the graphics and technical elements to the engine over time. Perhaps one day you will have your silly rig fix.

Even redesigning the engine it's still incredibly hard to make it not clip. It's a matter of power. The amount of CPU processing is crazy to even after you have the modeling and designers on board.

The add on hair physics alone would add an entirely different layer onto it.

It's very niche until someone release middleware tools that developers can turn on and off without costing them time and effort.

It's funny how people "defend" saying it's so difficult and from a marketing point of view it's intelligent bla bla bla. This may all be true but it does not take away the fact that they come off incredibly lazy. 90% of the community don't know how coding works. To expect them to just think of this being the reason it isn't done is rather ignorant.

The dev team needs to give an honest statement as to why they chose to not work on it. Saying that they rather release more hairstyles is a good one. It's not when for example male Mi'qote got 1 (or 2?) hairstyles in roughly 9 months. This feels like they're hiding behind a glass door...

It's not only hairstyles. I think people just want more options to create a look. The glamour system is great. Too bad gear gets copy pasted over and over again (<-- incredibly lazy). Not only do they repeat the gear designs, they also make sure some pieces have almost the exact same design ignoring the fact that they're meant for different jobs (<-- beyond incredibly lazy).

I could go on with examples. Point is that these elements of this game, which is a great game, could get a QoL upgrade or a clear statement why certain choices were made. They don't, so people (like me) discuss this on the forum hoping they'll change one thing or another.

Honestly just pick one workaround and stick to it. It's not impossible.

I don't get why people complain about clipping. And if it's so easy, I'm sure they would have just done it so they wouldn't have to deal with the complaining. Maybe after they stop updating for PS3 it will get better. Other then that it's just pixel people.

The only game that has very little clipping is The Secret World, however there are no long hairstyles in the game, because the Devs wanted to minimize clipping as much as possible. There were allot of players who complained about the lack of long hair choices due to that. I played Tera and I hated putting on armor that changed the hairstyle to one I didn't like. Clipping will be an issue for a long time in every online game. I try not to worry so much about it and focus on all the beauty I see in this game.

On PSO2 hair react to objects (aka your character shoulders) it still has some clipping but overall looks nice with tons of awesome hairstyles...

But need physicx engine or something like that

I'll take good long hair options over no clipping any day of the week, no exceptions.

Especially with Glamour in place now, it's easy to grab some gear that doesn't clip with your favored hairstyle. Although, even if my favorite gear clipped terribly with my favorite hair... I'd still rather have more long hair styles ^_^

Collar-cliping doesn't bother me so much as the new male Miqo'te style's interaction with headgear...I tried it on with a 'glasses' model' item equipped and the part of the bangs that hang in your eyes are actually stuck between your face and the frame.

Though it would be nice if they'd add some longer hairstyles and gave you the option to switch to an 'updo' when equipping gear that might cause clipping (Like Tera, only make the switch optional, not mandatory).

They should pay Sega for the hair physics in PSO2. If a high action and reaction game like it can deal with physics on at least 12 player models at once from clothing to hair (which we have 0 of, our clothing animations are just idle animations) I'm sure xiv can support it.

Why not just find a middle ground then?

Take TERA Online. To avoid clipping, the longer hairstyles will change into Ponytails or similar styles if the gear has a huge collar, for example.

After playing around with the aesthetician, trying some hairstyles with the charcter emotes on, I saw that the new hairstyles are a bit stiff and have less physic animation compared to the older hairstyles.
Can SE put more physic animation into the new hairstyles, please?

I'm not arguing for no clipping whatsoever, I'm arguing for a better standard that can assist in the prevention of the majority of severe clipping cases

Having better design-standards will also not interfere with the implementation of new equips/hairstyles/etc

It is legitimately not difficult to set a standard when creating a new collar or weapon-rigging that it shouldn't cross "x-y-z" space***

New equipment should be passed through QA anyway

Better standards would easily solve many of the clipping issues

I'm also not asking SE to go back & 'fix' current clipping issues, just to devise a better standard to abide by for the future

Can that be done SE?

The side saddle was another thing I wished they would have made possible to toggle. Would avoid some of that clipping, but more than that it would allow us who like classy riding to not be forced into a single race.

There are many solutions to avoid clipping. like physics, skeletons, long hair friendly gear etc. The problem is if they over focus on graphics only then you gonna get no serious content. We have to decide what is the most important in this game. The most important is the gameplay and the content. Graphics can be improved little by little. One thing I don't like in this game is how bad the gear textures and the body textures are. So low resolution and they look terrible even when you look from far away without zoom innear your char. I think we will see graphic updates in the future on some point. But at this moment there are other more serious things they have to take care.

Hence, improved standards (getting it right the first time, every time if able).

That way you 1) reduce clipping significantly & 2) don't take away from content/gear
