Given that they have made a point of saying that very few people will upgrade before 2.25 I think it's safe to assume that you'll need an upgrade item from new coil turns, or the new EX primal fights (assuming they are going to be THAT punishing)
That Lala PLD has over 8000 HP. WAR will probably sit easy @ over 10k HP in the same gear.
they are totally doing Allagan2 i110, Soldiery i100 so that people will actually look forward to to a weekly i110 piece from a spammable CT2 in June.
Not disagreeing. It is possible. They made a mess of CT/Coil/Mythology gear, and making CT2 drops rarer and more valuable than Soldiery gear would be a step in the right direction.
But at the same time, I find it hard to believe SE will condemn their casual fan base into wearing sub-par gear than other types of players.
The entire point of Mythology was to allow casual players to remain relevant in the game without having to do coil.
Now they're turning around and making Coil 2 gear superior to Soldiery (new tomes) gear, which will already upset the casuals. Making CT drop gear that is superior to soldiery gear will probably make them flip their top. Especially since in 2.25 or 2.3 they are apparently allowing 24 man pre-made alliances. Meaning the rise of FC large man content, and the exclusion of the weaker more casual players.
So in effect, making CT2 gear superior to soldiery gear benefits the less casual of us, who are already in groups and farming t1-t5.
We will have access to soldiery, coil, extremes as well as CT2 gear while casuals will most likely only be able to access soldiery regularly and CT2 sometimes (look at DF Extremes as a case example of how good casuals do in DF lol)
In short, I'm all for it. Let the gap between whiners and people who are willing to work increase. Filthy casuals had it coming.
nothing says CT2 gear has to be below Allagan2.
that change has no bearing on the difficulty of CT2, that just means CT2 with pre-made 24s have 0 chance to wipe and you can potentially "speed run" it whatever that means. your correlation that just because you CAN enter means the difficulty automatically rises to the point where most people who don't enter that way will find it hard to complete is unfounded.
The RNG with gear dropping is nothing new to MMOs. Why are people acting like this is such a travesty, this is the life of raiding. Lockouts and random gear dropping and hoping your piece drops is a part of raiding, always has been always will be. At no point did SE EVER say they were planning on doing something different in this regard.
Maybe your gear will drop fast maybe it won't, but you'll always have something to strive for so either you will keep raiding or quit. If you quit...peace out!
Meh if that's the case that is a little too linear, people keep refering to myth gear as the "casual set" but it actually brings much more than that to the game. Having only one choice of gear per tier is bad, regardless the way you're gonna get it, you just can't min/max or even put a little thought on your stats if there's only one top tier set.
Also RNG can be pretty harsh, my static started clearing coil pretty early and yet I saw my first bard's loot only after 2.1 and as of today we've never seen mage's body, legs or head dropping... I wouldn't really say that's rewarding hardcore players over anyone.
At least I hope they're being more careful with itemization, try to equip a full aiming set now and watch your accuracy go nuts <.<'
if they put CT 2 in DF then most likely CT2 will drop i100. tome item prolly be i 110, to give some horizon progression aside from allagan set.
I dont think they will give CT 2 i110, since CT will be on DF and T6-9 is not on DF.
I do like the gear being gradual increases for difficulty of content. Best gear should be from Coil. However, if they homogenize gear again, say caster gear: ss + det, or ss + crit, may not be good for both summoner and black mage per se. Or whm and sch, SS vs crit, det vs piety, etc. I don't see this having a good ending unless they drop tokens for specific class gear. Unless they homogenize the need for specific stats for specified spells, I think this may be a problem.
As it is now, BIS scholar is almost all Myth tome gear. I don't see how this will be effective for both healing classes or both casting classes. I am sure other dps or even tank gear will have the same concerns. Maybe there is something I am missing?
Agreed,it also opens up future CT content to be on par with the "current" tombstone rewards. Which with a once a week deal is good imo.
First turns for the new BC tier is likely designed around ilvl 90-100 entry and as such i don't see "casual" players being left behind since you can get farther geared into 100 and have an "easier" time of the entry turns.
Same will apply to those that are participating in coil in a week by week basis, and upgrade here, and upgrade there, will get you farther and "allow" you to clear progression.
don't get me wrong i love BiS as much as the next person, but BiS is what you "aim" for while participating in progression not the entry into progression.
One other thing on reinhearts translation it kinda sounded like tome gear might have a "upgradable" path? might just be me. (maybe something like tokens from coil that you can use to boost soldiery? although yoshi mentioned leviathan in this part i think.)
another thing i noticed is that the gerolt's masterworks seem to be soldery based, is that going to be along with the AF2? maybe that is their way to go about itemization. (still wouldn't solve coil itemization though :P)
All of your concerns are completely valid and I can sympathize with you. However, if they are going to homogenize the gear, it just means that we will have less stat synergy for some classes. People are still going to go for the highest ilvl gear to max out their main stat.
Yoshi did mention something about being able to customize your weapon's stats in the context of future gearing, but that won't be applying to coil drops etc., though.
So to make sure that the new crafting recipes people wanted don't somehow become useful compared to dungeon drops, they've added multiple extra tiers of dungeon drop items to completely outclass them?
Thanks. Thanks a lot.
Well, SE have said many times before that they intend to always have the best dungeon/raid drops be superior to the best crafted options.
I think there's something different going on with the soldiery tome gear though. Yoshida's answer was kind of strange that the soldiery tome gear and allagan 2 gear won't necessarily be the same ilvl. To me it's either the same, higher, or lower. Not necessarily equal seems to imply that there are multiple sets with different ilvls, upgrade paths such that they start out different but end up the same, or pieces within the same set have different ilvls than each other.
I reckon the next part of CT Gear should be ilvl95-100, Soldiery Tome Gear should be ilvl110 and ofcourse 2nd Coil Gear should be the full ilvl115 with the possibility of a T9 Weapon drop being ilvl120
Zodiak Relic should also be ilvl115 with the possibility of upgrading like going from Base -> Zenith.
im kinda glad theyre making coil gear higher than soldiery. At least it's a way of showing what you've been able to accomplish and/or your skill level at that period of time in regards to the latest turns in coil.
but maaaan man....dat r..n..g. ive been coiling as blm since october. i have NEVER seen the caster chest drop.....like i've never even had the chance to roll need on it. -.-
I wonder how hard t6 will be in full i90 or i90 with a i95 weap..or i90 with i100 levi weap.
lastly..i really wanna see what mnk tome gear looks like. I really hope it looks like the concept art. xD
You do realize that just because companies are doing something doesn't make it ok?
Wow got rid of the rng system in favor of valor points and tokens for a reason. Trying to extend raid content with a rng system is terrible because people start to lose interest over time when they never get their gear. It's pointless to keep raiding when every week all you see is the same shit over and over. Groups/player progression get stalled due to this.
I agree that coil should have a valor points style system for gear but also that it should be higher than tome gear, which it seems to be so I'm pretty happy. I have gone 4-5 months without getting caster pants, so I know the RNG pain as much as anyone else but even I think it's absurd that you can get raid level gear without even raiding and I'm glad they might be making this change. It should never be possible to outgear the hardest content without even doing it.
That's how i was with caster body. Until the day I said, "IT WILL DROP TODAY I HAVE PROCLAIMED IT!" and it dropped :D
I'm okay with coil gear being higher than tome gear, and it only makes sense. I assume future CT, since it will be capable of being made into premade, will be i105/110 to offset this. Which is better than what it is now.
Well, coil is ff 14s highest tier similar to how heroic (mythic in WoD) is wows highest lvl tier, and last i checked you cant get heroic ilvl gear in wow from tokens at all >.>
There could be systems put into place of course though, like random "tokens" to upgrade the soldiery to ilvl 110 (or the AF2? still unclear on how those are gonna work out)
Overall i agree with the direction though, maybe now they could even opt to make "more drops" in coil since it doesn't have the mythos counterparts.
A smart/procedural RNG system similar to what Diablo 3 has now would also be nice, where the game looks at what your character actually needs/what hasn't been acquired by raid members and weighs rolls in the favor of what is need. It would also encourage people to actually raid with the alt job they're gearing, once we get to the point where we're rolling on 2nd jobs.
I'm all for allagan being higher ilevel than tome gear. People who don't run Coil do not need i90 or i110 gear.
They don't really need a token system or valor points for turns 6-9. What they need is to not have 17+ items drop from one boss, an intelligent rng system that prevents gear from dropping for jobs that aren't in the raid, or combine melee dps gear into one set. Everyone else has to share gear except for mnk, drg, and brd.
I'll wait and see how turns 6-9 work out because we don't really know any specifics other than the bosses they've shown us.
What's going to suck about coil gear being the way it is in 2.2 is if they don't itemize the gear well. Would hate to be in a full 110 set and be under the accuracy cap due to bad itemization on the devs end.
Amen. I've been watching out for the healing gloves and dragoon pants/belt and they just won't drop for us. Plenty of accessories for every class, but never any actual gear. Thankfully with the patch we'll be able to farm for them though. D:<
I can't even imagine how brutal the 6-9 rng will be. I feel like its bad enough when I hear about T5 tripple weapon drops 3 weeks in a row, you know?
Need is irrelevant. People will always want the highest level possible gear because it's the best, regardless of what they do with it. People want to have The Best Gear In The Game. They don't want anything else because everything else isn't The Best Gear In The Game and is therefore worthless.
Tome gear is kind of a soft "easy mode" for Coil. Take i90 gear for example. People on the "cutting edge" went into Coil with i70s, and over the weeks would get Coil drops and myth pieces which would make things easier and easier to progress further. Some people didn't have what it took to get past T1/2 though in the first month or two of the game, but nowadays since MANY players have i90 sets from myth at least, you see people PUGing Coil all the time, even the types of people who normally don't or wouldn't do something like Coil.
Well, they do alleviate the NEVER BIS problem by unlocking the previous tiers. I imagine if you fail to get the Allagan 2 from 6-9 you'll have to farm them when 2.4 comes out. It hurts non-static, but the way it is now it really promotes statics, because an allagan drop=overall party powerup. Which I like.. But I understand how hard it is to form a static, a consistent one even moreso.
I really wish they would keep iLvl in line with actual player level, it just seems rather ridiculous now, having something that much further ahead of the player level...
Guess you have not played another mmorpg with item levels, item levels are meant as a bridge to connect higher content with the higher the item level the higher the attributes and weapon damage roll= the higher content your potentially able to due item level lockouts and gear check fights which so far 14 has been very generous with unlike other mmorpgs.
Ilvl is just an ID. They would have called it something else like tier 3 for example. Don't get attached too much to the numbers as the stat increase is not huge even going from i90 to i110.
The reason they put out higher level items rather than upping the PC level cap is because progressively upping the level cap too regularly leads to situations like WoW where they are almost technologically incapable of programming a boss with enough HP to be a challenge to players with stats in the seven figures.
