How about giving us bonus xp when we are not logged on

It depends.

Some MMOs have the bonus accumulate while in town and offline -- basically you'll get between 1% - 40% (cap) bonus that degrades over the course of x time period (varies by MMO.)

Some have it to where it wears off after x amount of XP gained.

Some have it to where it only affects newbies till x level range (usually the 20s/30s/40s).

The point of rested XP is for casual players. SE said surplus is there way to make it so casuals catch with hardcores when in truth it was just a way to make a bit more extra cash. you never NEVER put a cap like that on hardcore players. Put rested xp instead :D

This will be abused so much. Just do away with surplus and stop crying about it.

This, and the other reason they put a cap on hardcores is to slow down progression 'cause there's nothing else to do in the game except level.

we got the same system as wow , the makers just don't tread us like idiots , and tell it like it is if you play to long you get less exp .

WoW got this to if you play to long you get less sp , they just tell you that wen you hit surplus , this is normal exp and dont drive it so far that you never get 0 exp

for the ppl how can't stand the surplus next time you hit surplus think to you self lets do it wow style and not play for a few day's and get bonus exp

I don't understand what the big fuss is about, the hardcore players are still getting rewarded more even though casuals get a exp bonus. But since there is a lack of content and this game is free to play , this should be implemented later.

Hardcore players

Since they are on lets say everyday or maybe a little less, they are getting exp, gil, crafting skill's, and maybe some rare gear from raids or monsters. This shows that you worked for everything and so you are rewarded for it :).

Casual players

They get the exp bonus for not playing the game that much. Although they get a nice little bonus for exp, they will more than likely not have anywhere near the amount of gil, rare gear, and crafting experience that the hardcore players have. There is really no other bonus the casuals receive, but it seems fair if you ask me.

Since this game is currently free to play and there's only a little bit content I don't see the point, but when they do charge, I do.

Think of someone who only gets to play on the weekend or maybe he took a month long break. He is still paying for the game even though he isn't playing it. Do you think if someone only plays for a few hours or maybe takes a long break will get their moneys worth?

I doubt it, like my friend he will just say he's too far behind and just quit since he's really not playing and has nothing to look forward to when he returns since catching up to all of us will take up a lot of time and he wont even get to play with us (we both left before the level sync). Sure screw him!! we don't need him in this game!!! :O but i'm sure square enix will beg to differ since a subscription is money for them.

Once again, implement this when they start charging that way it will be balanced :)

WoW apparently tried a similar fatigue system during beta and got rid of it when testers reacted negatively.

If the FFXIV devs had done some research during the planning stages, they might have saved themselves some player wrath. >.<

I'll start by saying im not defending surplus, but you guys seem to have missed the point of it. The idea was for a hardcore player you would play more classes as a way to help you save gil, a way to make gil, not by so reliant other players, and give youself more options as a DoW/DoM. I know most ppl saw it as a punishment and not as the incentive it was trying to be but I do think it was not really needed. the player who would have lvled more than one class would have done so anyway.

oh yea no to rested exp if your not playing you shouldn't lvl.

I support the idea of get rid of surplus.
Players shouldn't be punish.. they have to change in some way that people feel like they getting something from game, not taken away.

The idea of rest xp bonus is good, but I bet with some brainstorming, SE and Yoshi-P team should come up with some good idea that offer some kind of bonus to player ( As I remember, they also state this issue in the poll, and most of people want it removed? )

Btw, I like the idea of bonus gear state that Fandango Asturiano Posted. It making game more fun and easier to play.

Indeed. One of the primary reasons why I left WoW was because it just became more and more simple. And if I want to play Aion, well....resubbing is only a click away.

You didn't play the game. You've not earned anything because you didn't play, and so it will stay. It's like getting a bonus on my salary because I stayed at home, come on!

It's not really a bonus because they're not still earning exp while not playing. =D

It's a way for people who play less to have an easier time catching up with those that play more, as opposed to forcibly slowing down people that play more so that they don't get too far ahead those that play less.

I'm just too focused by the point that if someone doesn't play, then that someone is not allowed to have a bonus because he didn't play.
It can have a good side though. I could've had a harsh week working the sh*t out of my butt and then I can catch up with my friends/LS/group thanks to this bonus.
On the other side, I could play other games just to have a bonus experience, and when my LS/group pal/friend has spent the week to gain his 3 levels, I spent my 3 days to reach his 3 levels, and he would go like "...you piece of...".

We're both right in this case. Now I'd like to see a Dev's answer to this =D

Offline Exp sounds ridiculous. I didnt meet that and I hear this for the first time that you gain exp while you dont play. Its funny on other hand but I do not like this idea for Final Fantasy.

Guardians favor will help you to lvlup faster in case you didnt play for few days.

I think I should clarify the kind of system I'm advocating.

To use your job example, you work 40 hours a week making $20/hr. You skip a whole week, and on your return, you get 16 hours of $40/hr pay, and the rest is the standard $20/hr.

No matter what way you slice it, the more work time you miss, the less money you make. But the $40/hr bonus is there so you're not completely screwed for missing work (because your company is so nice).

That's the kind of bonus exp system I'm advocating.

Okay. I've read enough to cast my two cents. They've stated several times that they are trying to create 'new' elements, and reform xiv with original content. How would this help that direction in any way? They've also specifically stated they will not be trying to absorb any elements of another current gen mmo if they can help it.

I must have missed this interview. If I did and this is true, then I will stand corrected. but doing it just because it is present in another mmo I do not believe is a good idea at all.
