Game has no interesting content; player base in turn asks to be forced to manually travel everywhere.
My god, if people even read what they wrote. Only in MMOs does this mentality exist.

I wouldnt mind another "Atomos" event, and have him suck the aether out of the crystals again. It'll be fun for those who didnt get to experiance it :P
I'd be all for this if there was enough out there to explore.
Open world travel is made interesting by the sights you see and the tricks you pick up to make your travel more efficient/fun!
But what we've got now is not really a world but a small handful of maps, each of which boils down to a few painfully short roads and some small pockets of "wilderness" scattered about.
This makes travel less like a fun little journey, and more like a walk down a country driveway where the biome changes every 2-3 minutes (after a bit of a black-out ofc) and anything that is too far from the path is either blocked off with a waist-high pile of rocks that is impossible to scale, or the edge of existence itself.
I think taking away quick travel will do an even worse job at making the world feel big, because we'll be constantly reminded of how small the world actually is!
(This is coming from a person who regularly has no-teleport weeks)
I like exploring things in games, but in MMO's it's never felt rewarding or fun. Walking alone through an empty area, largely void of players, just whacking at mobs that happen to be there just to get from point A to point B always felt dull, boring and time I could spend having fun. For people who like to do that, they still can (just don't use teleports), but I don't always have a ton of time to spend online and on those days I'd rather use the little time I have doing something fun in the game, not meandering along trail to get to the fun.
Exploration was a large part of Guild Wars 2, but after a while it came to feel like a boring, monotonous chore. There were open world dungeons, but people rarely did them. There are tons of events, but there's rarely anyone else wandering around in the same area to do them with. Everyone would end up funneled farming, doing dungeons or other instanced content, off in PvP, or chatting and RPing in the major cities (and sometimes in the world). I couldn't imagine doing everything I did in that game without Waypoints (teleportation) available after discovering them... it'd make getting to large events a pain, it'd take an annoying amount of time to go from one section of the world to the other if your guild had something planned in the Shiverpeaks and you, unfortunately, logged out for the night after a run of Arah and then have to fight through six or seven zones to get there.
I find exploration and lack of teleporting more fun in single player games, where you come across events, ruins, temples full of fun, interesting ways to develop your character or that contain interesting armor that holds a lot of lore to it, or something more like that. Going on adventures while traveling.
Sitting on a boat for five minutes basically afk is neither an adventure nor is it fun.
The maps are so incredibly tiny and trivial, walking isnt even remotely interesting. Sometimes i just set my movement mode to walking instead of running and just enjoy the scenery when i go from point A to B :/ It's kinda pointless to be worried about teleports being taken away when you can get anywhere in the world in under 5 minutes time.
I like this idea. And while we're in the business of trolling players I think we should implement a movement fatigue system for both players and chocobos. Sure, you can ride your chocobo around but after a certain point they get tired of carrying your heavy butt around and you automatically dismount and can't ride a mount again for an hour. Then you have to hoof it. Of course, wearing all that heavy armor or being a nerdy caster eventually tires you out as well. Then you're hit with a hour long heavy that only decreases if you're standing completely still. An hour you can be spending to admire the environment! :)
Obvious joking aside, a world event where something did cause this to happen would be interesting. I do feel like this game needs fun world events from time to time that players can actually influence.
Actually, it may happen. Spoilers incoming :
At the end of storyline, we saw Hydaelyn corrupted so we could expect a problem with Aetherites in the future
Would love this. Would prefer limited aetherytes existed. So basically like XI outposts. Like each major city kept theirs, mor dohna, and maybe like 1 area in each city region.
a little wrong.
that was zodiark we saw, both hydaelyn and zodiark are visually similar.
idc to be honest. i have played games with fast travel, i have played games without.
i would rather get rid of df though, or make it so it affects each dungeon individually rather than being a menu you can bring up at will.
Looking at the idea being suggested, a fun way to get users to explore the world more without the use of Aether travel, I just wanted to say that we are looking into more content focused on getting players out and about.
You can imagine that Treasure Maps were created as the first idea in this vein and we're currently thinking about how to expand on that idea!
Most likely not. Have to take into account the people who have zero interest with in game events. All that matters to them is cutting edge raiding. Being unable to do teleport around would be nothing but a huge hindrance to them, causing them to rage in game and on the forums. The event idea has good intentions but sadly it disincentives logging in during that time and you really dont want that.
SE should start making extremely dangerous zones where Aetherytes do not exist. Obviously, because the area is so dangerous, normal folk are unable to camp and create the Aetherytes in those area's. Could fit into the lore very well. The more dangerous zones would also be extremely rewarding...
Add hortizonal progression type content to open world content like expand on the concept of a new type of materia tier which boost a jobs ability or add enhancements to them. Add rare item drops which crafter's need to be able to attach materia for end gear to unlock/equip slot's not just str,vit etc. but cure potency +5% as example. I hate to a point of the vertical progress on gear we need some horizontal progression on the side and crafters should be the ones to provide it if we cannot be the source of top end gear. Instead of getting rid of that old gear for the fresh new gear have it where the crafters could fuse the old gear into the new version with certain rare item to give the new version a % buff to new gear. Just my thoughts on it at least lol
You ruined the world when you made teleporting all over the place an option... you shouldn't have spoiled everyone -_-
What happened to public transport? one of my favourite past times in video games was travelling on a ferry with random players, fishing off the side of the boat... skeleton pirates jump on the ship, fish up giant monsters... what happened to that? getting on an airship that wasn't just a cut scene but an actual transport system, heaps of players sharing the flight with you, socializing, crafting, etc.
Destroy the Aethercytes, make the bad guys corrupt them or something... give us a reason to go out in the world, at this point we are all GM's and we can teleport anywhere we please, it's stupid.
I would like to throw in a request for more open world content that requires a small group to complete. The Hunting logs were great fun at launch as I could find players easily to group with and challenge the higher level enemies. More content that delivers this kind of experience would be great! Ta!
How about an active 'Fight for Control' system, where all players and beastmen of their respective clan fight for regional influence to gain its access/perks?
For example, if you are with The Maelstorm and have no influence on other regions? I guess you are stuck taking an airship!
You could work on an idea involving "Mount Quests" where you travel the world of Eorzea with your loyal mount dodging various monsters and obstacles (traps on floors that heavy or bind you?) while reaching certain waypoints within the area under a set amount of time. The reward could be 5000-7000 Gil or different aesthetics for your companion. Also the point of the quest would be to get you to a certain area without spending gil but earning gil for viewing the world.
example;
(Gridania - Ul'dah: 7000 Gil, 2 Cordial)
just random ideas lol... people might like it if you could do them with party members and it might feel like Mario Kart, so maybe if you could turn it into a racing system with party members and the winner gets maybe more Gil? lol
It wouldn't be so bad for end game, but I couldn't imagine having no teleport while trying to level a class from 1 to 50. Some of the back forth they have you doing for some of the quest would make me rage quit.
well i think the NMs and HNM being taken away from the game really did kill alot of the adventure feel. there almost no reason to bother with the world because of that. People may hate the idea of long spawn times and camping but they were things that gave you a reason to play. There just needs to be some horizontal game play ideas and gear put into XIV so people don't suffer from linear mind-numbness.
I'd honestly like to see things like campaign besieged and Nyzul isle come back because they in all honesty extremely fun things and campaign and besieged actually effected the world. Really think Nyzul Isle would be a extreme enjoyed thing to bring back for the more hardcore players. I think the idea of this topic would work well with campaign but instead of them being destroyed they would fall under beastmen control if you didn't push back the attacking beastmen tribe and you'd be unable to use them. This could be used for ranking up in the missing GC ranks we've yet to get.
Um what? We definitely don't need Teleport and Warp stuck on a single job like we did back in FFXI.
If people don't want to walk in the overworld then just let them be. Other people being capable of teleporting hasn't stopped me from running through each zone.
There are much better ways to give us a reason to play than crap mechanics like camping (which doesn't even give us a reason to play, just a reason to afk between windows).
I think they should add a campaign type system. Just fight beastmen solo - full party out in the world. How hard is this?
Just going to throw out my ideas:
- Chocobo races
- Capturing images of certain things for the newspapers
- Group event requiring multiple triggers around the map to be tripped within seconds of each other
- Moogle chase! - either an actual chase or a teleporting moogle that is similar to the group trigger idea
- Moogle hunt - I already see other players who will camp out somewhere inaccessible/hidden and do a shout offering gil to anyone who can find them
For future expansions, a few significantly larger zones & less aetherytes are a MUST.
Please.
You have all the base mechanics to get ppl to explore. A few ideas:
- Fate engine update to more locations in world. Fates drop special potions/food/weapon or equipment augments making it worth while to play them.
- international Choco f-1 racing. Set up the more secluded areas with Choco race tracks - rankings, special prizes, etc.
- special disciple of the land gathering points and fishing areas. Again - make it worth while drops.
I would love this. Though, to be honest, I rarely use Aetherytes anyway. I prefer to airship and take my mount. This wouldn't change things for me in the slightest. But I would love to see more open world events and something catastrophic that the players have to come together to fix. I love that idea.
Caravan escort technically still is in the game, it's just been modified into escort levequests and escort type FATEs. Faction leves on the other hand, I agree would be nice to have back, if just for lore padding - I miss seeing the 'Horn and Hand' and 'Azeyma's Shields' notation at the bottom of each leve description.
I get that some people are explorer types, and that's what they find fun in the game. Running from place to place, uncovering cool scenery and taking in the art. I do this sometimes myself, with the teleporting as is. What I don't really understand is this community's insistence upon shoving what they deem fun down other's throats.
There is nothing stopping you from running from point A to point B and not teleporting. If that's what you truly enjoy, you can do it now. Not having that option would literally ruin the game for some folks, and cause a lot of frustration for lots more. There's no need to force what you consider fun upon the populace with really no reason other than telling them they should enjoy it because that's what you enjoy (which is not a good reason).
This idea sounds like an anime called "Log Horizon". after a certain calamity happened, all the teleporters are down and the adventurers are forced to travel by foot or by Flying mounts. The flying mounts also had stamina and once depleted could not be used for 24 hours. Enough about that though.
For the malfunction of the Aetheryte Crystals to work, the world really would need to be bigger. Not just the world itself, but the areas in general. As someone else said, the loading screen every 45 seconds is pretty lame.
Right, but what this guy is saying is to have a community event to where teleporting is temporarily halted until the community can figure out how to get the power back on. If you think about it, this idea has the potential to get more people to get to know eachother. what if certain characters at certain levels are the only ones who can discover clues
Nay.
I have no interest in running from one place to another on a mount or on foot over and over. The airships would alleviate that some, but I have no interest in my gameplay being consumed in the act of traveling. This isn't any different than the "What if we remove flying mounts?" discussions all the time on WoW in order to kick-start world PvP. If I want to explore the world, I will. If you remove teleportation and force me out into the world just to be able to function I'm not going to be a happy camper.
Still not interested. Is the event temporary and timed, or will it be off indefinitely until the event is completed? Also what happens if everyone is level 50 and you need a level 35. Who's switching classes (provided they have something below 50) to level up to complete this event.
It does, but I tend to dislike things that try and force community upon people by making another aspect completely inconvenient. Also, the way I read it the OP threw the whole event thing in as an afterthought, and the point was more to disable teleporting and less-so about an event (I could be wrong). There are a lot of community events that could be implemented without the need to render a portion of the game completely frustrating in order to get people to attend. People should be attending the events not out of obligation (to get back a feature they once had an enjoyed) and more because the event itself is fun. If SE needs to take away something people enjoy and dangle it as a reward for event completion in order to get people to attend, maybe they ought to re-think the event itself instead.
We definitely need areas where travel is restricted. Like an area with only one entrance to it and that's the ONLY place an aetheryte is. If you want to reach somewhere on the map, you're huffing it on foot or via mount. There's plenty of monsters and dangers to make doing so challenging, meaning you'll need a hand to do it. What this will do is create an area you MUST explore. You can't just pop through to a spot, get what you want, and pop back out. I DO NOT want the travel system we have changed. I like being able to get somewhere quickly to assist FC mates. I absolutely hated the stupid system FFXI had of doing a day-long quest just to travel via airship, and having to wait forever for the boat or airship, THEN wait forever to transport to the new area. I didn't hop on the boat to talk or hangout, I hopped on because my friends are over in the destination area and I want to game with them. With the current system, I can be there in a couple minutes tops, not 45 to an hour.
