I actually followed the quote trail all the way back to the beginning just to be sure that you'd really said that people jumping annoys you, so we shouldn't do too much to please the western crowd. Thanks for playing.
'MORE towards FF fans'
They tried a very 'general community' approach in the beginning and almost flopped the entire game. Yes, a lot of it were just bugs and broken and missing items. But Too many mmo's are trying to reach out to the WoW playerbase. No game will be a WoW-killer.
Make a game that speaks for itself, has it's own style, and keep it unique. If you want a different style of play, look for a different game. Don't try to get them to completely revamp something that works.
The reason they're approaching things from a ffxi point of view, is because xi 'worked'!! Other than outdated graphics, and some crafting and technical aspects of the game, it just worked. No, there is no silly jump button, but have you played any ff title that had a 'jump button' from the main series? (other than dragoon as a class skill in combat).
Xiv almost died from a poor director's work. A lot of players that have left xi will probably not return. A large percentage of current players have played ffxi for either a short time, or long. I was on Odin for 7 years in ffxi, and a lot of things that Final Fantasy does right that others will not match up to are Class selection, world, lore, pve content, etc...
Other than the recent psp fighting game, FF has never been about PvP, and a lot of the suggestions currently incoming are from a lot of people coming from other mmo-genre's.
Making the game more approachable to newer players is good, but steering away from what FF does best is not the best answer for saving the game.
The damn cover says FINAL FANTASY XIV. Clearly they need to cater to the FF fans(be in XI, 7, or any other FF). I swear to god if this thing turns into a "better looking" WoW, ill leave.
I could care less if this game was RPG, RTS, FPS(lol FF FPS...would be funnny. Barret and Vincent FTW!). I bought it because the last FF game i was really into was 10. I just recently bought 11 to see how FF plays as an MMO, ad i immediately said "This is amazing, im absolutely getting FFXIV, the graphics are beautiful).
As far as the content goes(or lack thereof), i dont really care. This game is still a baby. I understand the need for more content, i do, but give them a break peoples. They ARE adjusting the game and they are ABSOLUTELY listening to all of us.
Sit back, relax, and just enjoy the game for what it is right now, a relatively new MMO.
But yea, any step in the direction of MMO and not FF will have an adverse effect on the player base. I have to assume that people are here becuase the name is FF, because if all they wanted was just another MMO, they could go get WoW, and the numerous expansion packs, or get RIFT.
As a matter of fact, i bet many of the people here DO have those games, and wanted to go with FF in hopes that it would be something special, not generic.
we need rep up buttons on this forum lol.
no.... all they do is cause flame wars.
a report button to report rude childish comments is more of a solution.
not allowing terms like trolls, carebears, or anything remotely derogitory, is a welcomed feature.
Sorry But Again I say ff fans, there are enough mmo out there to please any mmo player. And more coming out. Don't like grind? play DCUO. Want pvp? go play Aion WoW DCUO. Want a game that you can solo? DCUO and soon star wars old republic. MMo are starting to stink now. I love ffxi because to me THAT is an mmo. It took time to do stuff, and there is so much to do. End game was optional as was the gear. Players no longer want good communities, they are to focused on themselves and how fast they get to end game. On ffxi its easy to get help. On WoW, Aion , DCUO not so much. You told to look it up on a website or "learn2play". Or even insulted for looking for a guild under a certain lvl. MMo w/o a good community is a bad mmo.
Both obviously, otherwise the game is going to hemorrhage money.
Me likey rep.
And the only time it causes a "flame war" is when John/Jane Doe comes in here all beligerent, and their REP is like -57. Who wants to help someone that is clearly a problem.
As far as the name calling goes, where theres forums, theres always going to be ne'er-do-wells.
the only thing i can do for you is to kindly point you to this thread, you will see im by far not the only one that is annoyed by bunny hopping antics
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-About-Jumping
have a nice day
Bunny hopping...lol. Ohhhh CSS.
Bunny hopping refers to the act of constantly jumping at a specific timing to gain speed above which you can normally travel. Used in games like Counter Strike, it not only allows you to travel at ridiculous speeds, but it also alter the amount of noise you make. If you play FPS(First Person Shooters) games, then you know a good headset can really step your game up.
You may have seen in Call of Duty server "No Bunny hopping". This refers to the unrealistic tactic of jumping to create confusion in your enemy, and sometimes effectively dodging bullets. The reason its frowned upon in this aspect is that IRL, a soldier wouldn't rush at the enemy, constantly jumping to avoid fire.
Unfortunately i dont see how "bunny hopping" would be useful or detrimental to the world of FFXIV...aside from a buunch of people jumping around, causes additional load on the server or client? Other than that i dont ever see it becomming a problem. However i could be wrong. As i stated before, im not a hardcore MMO player, more FPS oriented, but i really dont see how jumping would be an issue in FFXIV.
There isn't as many FF fans to make this game work, they have to feed the MMO community to make sure this game last.
im not an FPS player so i wasnt aware now the term is used in this games its interesting that you get a speed boost, i thought they just jump becasue they think they are harder to hit lol, i refer to people that are bouncing like rubber balls because they are bored or whatever.

I don't believe that FFXIV will find any kind of success or longevity if it caters only to FF fans. Consider that the extremely successful World of Warcraft was built -upon- the original Warcraft mythology and then extended itself from that point. Granted, the line is blurred when crossing from FF to FF the MMO as the genre is already within the RPG realm rather than strategy.
The entire Final Fantasy franchise has a unique artistry in storytelling and in design that links together each sequel, but FF games are designed to be stand alone. It does not make sense to ask then that the MMO adhere to anything beyond the broader concepts that make Final Fantasy games so captivating. There needs to be progress, and I would like more than anything to see the progression of MMO's made in the spirit of Final Fantasy.
I do not think that FF as an RPG has found success through stagnance.
This thread has a serious need for punctuation. If you think "bunny hopping antics" are annoying, try reading entire paragraphs of run on sentences. Commas are not a comparable substitute for periods.
It needs to be tailored to both to survive.h
Exactly. At least...there should be. To prove that point, the market will soon be producing new competition. For example, we'll see how the new Lucas Arts MMO fairs against Blizzard and SE with its full voice over, personal ship features, and individualized storylines. Storylines which, I would think, a rich name like Final Fantasy should be able to compete with.
honestly about the jump thing
Think ppl getting paranoid for something silly. I've played WoW, DCUO, Aion, and perfect world international. All these games have jump, and I personally rarely seen "bunny hoppers". I bunny hopped a few times, only to have contests with ppl in WoW with who can do a flip the most times in a roll. Its not as bad you guys. And are being silly. Think at most in 1-2 years on WoW i'v seen about 5 bunny hoppers. And it was like a mnth or two between each sighting. If you want say collision back we will need a jump to jump over doorway/pathway blockers. And since eveyone here don;t like bunny hoppers I don't think we will see them. XD
I just like the attitude of, "It annoys me visually, so the game should be less convenient so my eyes aren't offended."
Let's follow the logic further. Seeing people RUN everywhere is annoying, nobody can run that fast that long. So we should remove running, because it annoys me visually and it's unrealistic. Heck, we could apply that to numerous other things - crafting, which looks totally unrealistic, spells, which don't exist...
My point behind the original post is that FFXIV needs to stop tailoring to ANYONE. The developers need to decide, before anything, what will be an interesting and fun concept and then introduce that in its own way without being hampered by what FFXI players want nor with what WoW players want. They need to simply assess things on their own merits without worrying about age-old FF traditions or obiding by the status quo.
There is so much room for progressoin and improvement in the MMO industry and FFXIV just isn't embracing that when the only suggestions it hears are calls for WoW-style instances and FFXI-style classes.
Move on.
Should cater to Final Fantasy fans first.
Reason they look at FFXI players is well we like the game, I know i show my wow players friend ffxi/ffxiv and there like ahhh no thanks. They just don't like hardest they want everything handed to them i play real wow and i can say this 80+% of wow players are full of it and 45% of them say it true. Blizzard don't care about there players only the $ they get and wow players can say it's true.
I loved ffxi because it was something hard it give me something to work on if FFXIV can do that for them then i'll play it for 6+years like i did for ffxi and that the reason i think they looking at ffxi players more.
They should consider introducing convenient features, while mainly focusing on telling an interesting and engaging story with ground-breaking and dynamicly-driven content.
What's so difficult about making an MMO that is distinctly FF while still offering all the features that MMO players have grown acustom to over the last 10 years or so? I think the biggest issue is SE's unholy love affair with console systems. For single player FF games fine.. But for MMO's, it always seems that catering to the console crowd is done so at the expense of the PC crowd, and the majority of your MMO players are part of the PC crowd.
Just cut the PS3 version and change the focus of this game to PC only, code accordingly.
This game isn't hard. Crafting is an effort, but everything is easy. The only difficulty associate with the game is that the easy things are boring, which makes them seem much harder than they are. Some of us here who dislike the game, speaking for myself, were the first on the server to get NM drops. I know i was the first to get tricornes and doublets, but I still see fault with it and I am not here to endorse returning it to FFXI, and many other people with R50s aren't either.
Most people from Hardcore Linkshells have quit for multiple reasons. A lack of content is one of those but also there is the addition that other games coming out at the moment offer far more in the fun-department than FFXIV does presently and FFXI before it.
If this game becomes the FFXI you love, then few will return for it. There is no reason that the good aspects of FFXI (such as its atmosphere and team spirit) can't coexist with additions made for people who demand more than the simplicity of that kind of game.
as i stated in my second post thats not what i meant and if it offended anyone i apologize.
also dont reduce my statement to the jumping alone (which IS annoying) there are many things from the "standard MMO" that are a bad idea to implement into ff14 in my opinion, PKing FOR EXAMPLE which would create a vastly different community mindset.
You do know there is nothing that can qualify as "HARD" in FFXIV right now right ?
Oh and FFXI Was not that hard, it was a stupidly slow paced game :) Grinding is not hard, camping named mobs is not hard, is annoying and out dated, sure it was kinda fun and whatever back in EQ day's but this is 2011, get on with the times :)
Well, I'm sure you can see where only giving one example leaves me no choice but to "reduce" your statement to that. My only other choices are to read your mind, or put words into your mouth. PvP is a completely different topic than a simple jump ability; I don't advocate PvP, but neither do I advocate putting a diminished value on the opinions of people who are in favor of it. If I did oversimplify your position, I also apologize.
It's true that PKing would create a different environment. One way to introduce an open PvP type system could be to include a new zone where there were no rules, so that while the rest of the game was entirely PvE, there could be an area where people wanting to PvP and such could be able to do so with consenting peers.
When i mean hardest is the fact that the game is not easy it does not show you have to play the game you have to go and look it up. FFXIV have noting hard sure but still need to get ppl to team up for guildleves if you want to get a good amount of SP before the leves reset. WoW players don't like teaming up so they end up soloing. But yes i wish FFXIV would have some hardest to the game give players that don't have time something to do but don't lack in giving other players who want something more hard.
I know in the zam interview they said they adding a 4 man stuff to do for players who don't have much time to play and it be pretty easy to do and they going to add 8 man events which would be more hard and would take time to do and you need to plan. If this is true then i would enjoy playing it.
You are either insane or the fanboy is strong in you kiddo, FFXI WAS NOT HARD! You know what was hard in that game ? Getting a PARTY :) And having a game thats stupid hard where you need to go and look outside the game in order to understand said game is simply in lemon terms "IDIOTIC" .....
I agree with Zenaku, not just because we play FFXIV together and because of Selbina Pride. FFXI was hard..in comparison to other mmos..if you have only played xi that game isn't too hard I guess (I dont' know what world you live in but hey this is an opinion here)
At the birth of Aht Urghan XI still had some difficulty, XI now cakewalk. I mean I know someone who rerolled and got to 50 in 3 days now.
IMHO stupid people can't play xi and when I mean stupid, I mean strategically challenged. These people did exist in XI but the ls leader always told them what to do and they were the first to mess up. XIV is open to everyone of all intellectual levels (not sure if thats good or bad , but since theres no random grouping who cares) There more challenge in the Promy's then anything in XIV, and we're not counting solo things, BECAUSE I PLAY AN MMO TO PLAY WITH PEOPLE NOT SOLO.
