I'm probably gonna get the Odin armour to wear with a Dalamud horn for Tanking.
Other than that, I have a few other sets in mind for when I really don't like the look of a vanilla armour piece. :3
I'd like to just see seasonal event items be "vanity gear" so you can wear them out into the world without losing the stats from the normal gear. I want to wear my santa coat or my swimsuit out in public as vanity, but still be able to keep my gear stats. Maybe something like a "Head, Body, Legs, Feet" slots. I would NOT want to see vanity gear being something you can just purchase from the markets so anyone can just buy a set of cool gear and not worry about their actual stats. I don't want to see everyone running around in the same outfit. I also do NOT want to see many of the awesome looking gear SE has made for FFXIV covered up left and right by vanity items. One fun aspect of the game is running a dungeon multiple times to collect all pieces of a set so your character looks cool. I would hope vanity for awesome looking gear is also a challenge to collect. It would be nice if full sets of dungeon gear could also be worn as vanity once earned.
I like just being able to add additional frills to existing gear.
-> If they allow people to turn plate armor into bikinis or snowmen, I think the entire game will be ruined in terms of atmosphere.
@Uriahnool: 1) It's none of your business what outfit I want to dress my character up in. 2) It sounds like you just want to kill creativity and variety in vanity looks. Your suggestions are just bad. >_>
While I really like Rift's system the best, my experience with WoW's transmog system really wasn't that bad, aside from having to pay to store gear in the vendor. I'd gladly pay gil to get the look I want as long as it's free to take it away as I choose...granted the prices were reasonable. I don't see whatever system they go with consuming the gear though...that would be a recipe for disaster all around.
The problem with WoW's transmog was that it was extremely clunky. You couldn't change outfits on a whim; you had to go to a main city and talk to an NPC in order to change it up. With wardrobe-style systems (such as those found in Rift, but also LotRO and other MMOs), you can swap outfits on the go. Hell in Rift, you can have 19 different saved outfits all at once (plus your current gear) and swapping is as easy as clicking the button for any given set!
I want this to represent true FF fashion. The gear that provides the stats should not change the appearance of the character, the only difference with this is we decide what the character looks like. One set of slots for vanity gear which only provides the appearance of the character, then one set of slots that takes the stats of the gear placed in it and applies it to the character. Ideally I would like it to be as detailed as to select separate armor for each limb, so I can have one arm that is coated in plate armor looking badass and the rest a cloth like outfit.
I don't really understand the point of a stat trade system. It seems cumbersome and restrictive, not to mention a big hassle. Not exactly something people want to deal with when customizing.
What's the idea behind systems like that?
I wish they would just make the armors look good in the first place. I expect better design from Final Fantasy.
Here's an idea for a vanity system: Let us layer clothing on the same body part. Make it so I can equip something with short sleeves on top of something with long sleeves, or a cuirass on top of a robe. You already half-way do it with the huge boots covering up part of the pants, so take it all the way.
I'd also like to have an accessory slot for capes and such.
DCUO did it right. I think it was said before. Was the best thing about it.
That being said.. I want to wear the original AF armor on my warrior, looks so much better than +1
I am hoping for some basic vanity slots. If I equip something in the vanity slot that's what shows up. if I don't, what I'm wearing shows up per usual. Either way only the stats of what I am actually equipping to my normal slots count stat wise.
If SE gives us that I would be thrilled.
If they make a system like GW where the stats of item a are placed onto item b's look while destroying item a, I will hate it.
I'd prefer vanity pieces be restricted to things that you could equip as gear for the Job/Class being played. I feel like it should still look like you're wearing stuff that fits into the job you are. Squishy mages in plate sort of blows up the last shreds of rationality (really, on the whole the armor in this game isn't all that crazy, except a few outliers).
You drop the gear into a corresponding secondary slot and that'd be your appearance. Blank would default to what the gear normally looks like. Dual-slot items would need both slots "covered up" before the vanity appeared.
Of course "only what is equitable" would still let you wear a bikini on your i90 Pally currently.
All sorts of robes flutter in the wind. While it probably can't blow out too much a semi-fluttery cape could easily exist.
I'll be honest: I kinda want a system that unlocks additional 'vaity' options on a per-class basis, that levels up as we level / get more ilevels for our characters.
Here's my example:
You're a level 1 DRG. Vanity system will allow you some very basic armor - either your Vanity, or a bronze subligar / harness look.
You get to level 50 DRG. You can now select more armors - from all the basic dungouns, leading up to the DRG Artifact Armor. However, you're only i50, so you can't select the Dragoon Mythology armor as a vanity
You get to ilevel 90 DRG. You can now select the Allegan armor for vanity, the Myth armor for Vanity, or any other piece.
However, you are not required to have any of the pieces in this case. It literally gives various pieces by name from a list you can select. It'd probably be a multi-page/long list, but I'd be fine with this.
The reason I'd prefer this kind of system to, say, dragging-and-dropping your piece to be Vanity into a slot, is because I do not want to have to spend Mythology to look like my class. If I already have the Allegan robes of heaing, I don't want to have to spend 800+ myth to get the WHM myth / SCH myth body to look like my class.
If they can't do this, I hope they offer all armor up on the cheap as a 'cosmetic only' item, that doesn't have the stats. That would also be acceptable to me.
A way to keep styles without having to keep the gear. As an example DCUO's vanity system.
The problem is that weapons and armour don't have collision. That is the only reason why Miqo'te tail is showing through.
The flutter is applied to very few things like hair strands, and all of those only collide with the actual body model, not with other gear. The result of a cape would be either having the robe intersect with your weapon and gear all the time, making it look like broken graphics; or having the cape look like rigid cardboard that "floats" away from your body even though there's no wind, just so that the cape doesn't intersect with most gear.
The physics in this game is very limited. It's all a carefully orchestrated illusion. Adding capes would also mean adjusting all sheathed weapons. Two-handed weapons need to be shifted out to make room for the cape. One-handed long models need to deform the cape otherwise it'll just intersect with the cape and look like broken graphics.
I want what DCUO has, plain and simple. A lot of people aren't aware but that game really does have the best and most accessible "vanity system" in any game, hands down. You can always look however you like at any time, and the system does not take up inventory space by making you hoard any and all items that you may want for vanity purposes. Whenever you equip an item, it's appearance is automatically collected into the style system which you are free to choose for your character's look at any time, on the fly.
Sigh, but that would definitely be asking for too much since most games like to make things a hassle for players for some reason. So I'm hoping, at the very least, we do get the "cover" system that doesn't force us to destroy one piece of gear or another. Because that would suck.
Since they sort've copied their FATE idea from Rift and their rifts... let's hope they copy their vanity system to the T. I mean exactly like Rift. None of that SE "enhancement" garbage. Just copy it exactly how it is and just watch how your customers will love you for years to come because you did something so right it's almost wrong.
So going with my namesake, which is inspired by:

I'll start with this for the head item:

Then, I'd be looking for ideas for the body piece. Some the darklight looks cool, but not sure where to go after the mask.
With you 100%. That's the easy system LoTRO/EQ2 uses and I love it. I despise the system TERA uses where I have to sacrifice a piece of gear to combine the old and the new. Some gear in XIV can only be obtained once, and the thought of having unique gear destroyed would make me not want to use the vanity system.
Appearance is very important in MMORPGs. Nobody wants to look like thousands of other people. That's boring. Vanity will add much needed variety to Eorza. You'll be allowed to where whatever you want without sacrificing stats. Endgame players will no longer look identical. We'll all be wearing different things because we all have different taste in clothing.
Mostly I just want to dotwoNO THREE things:
Always match and not look like I got dressed in the dark.
Get rid of that hilariously baggy and unflattering BLM AF2 robe.
WEAR SOMETHING BACKLESS SO I CAN ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO SEE MY LEGACY TATTOO. D:
I would love just some regular vanity slots. Assuming they're gonna make us transmog with something we have to craft/get from crafters (so they feel semi-relevant for a few days again). If that's the case, I'll gladly blow up my bad allagan pieces to cover up the HIDEOUS BRD AF+1 gear that's BIS. Or if they'll let me, I'd be down for using my Snow event gear to cover up my Warrior's awfully mismatched set.
i feel like we are going to have a LOT of lightning girls around....
Transmogrification is what WoW uses, you go to an NPC and pay in game currency to make your current armor look like another piece you have acquired, so you retain both pieces but just change outward appearance, can be undone for a small fee. Transmute is a more permanent and involved process, that combines two pieces of armor into one. You keep the stats of the higher level armor but gain the look of the other piece, however the old piece of armor is destroyed in this system. Alternatively, some MMOs such as LoTRO, EQ2, and Rift have simple "false" or "vanity" armor slots that override the appearance of the currently equipped armor. That system is fast, easy, and requires no use of in game currency to switch looks.
SWTOR gets it right with the way you can slot Armor, Mod, Enhancement, Barrel, and Hilt components into any piece of customizable gear or weapon. So you can be wearing "Slave Girl" or "Dancer" gear that has stats just as good as the heaviest (looking) "Vanguard" armor, by slotting the upgrades you want into the gear shells. And no matter what you think of "Cash Shops" there is a huge selection of customizable gear items and weapons for mix and match, more all the time as new Cartel Market items are added.
The mechanism we have here would have to be completely reworked to put something like that in place though.
I would love a DCUO system...
BUT...we still can't /tell in dungeons. So i expect -another- 'little things which make it anoying' system.
I'm honestly trying to find it, swore it was in one of the Live Letters where they said it wasn't separate slots. I'll keep looking though.
EDIT: This is NOT the quote i'm referring to, but seems related.
Quote:
Looking ahead to Patch 2.2, crafters will be able to alter gear designs using a “template” system (official name TBD), giving them yet another role in creating desirable gear.
Well... Papalymo wore plate and we know he is a thaumaturge...
