Seems fine to me. Just take a few days to get used to it.
And use keybinds, lol
People really will cry about anything...
New menu is awesome. I disliked having 2 rows to clutter my screen, I definitely didn't want 3. It just takes some getting used to, and you should always keybind important menus anyway.
I would love to see a bar upper screen (like fubar did for WoW), and be able to customize things like token, gils, durability, and the full micro bar function.
Yeah but uhhhh I don't do PvP, I don't do things requiring parties, I can't buy a house (<_<), and I don't play on a 1280x720 screen. The -option- to use the previous layout would be kind of nice.
Also, only slightly off-topic... the 10 pages of new user macro icons are cool, but when will you give us macro icons for emote macros? I like to macro emote for RP with the "motion" subcommand to not bother other players' chatlogs, but all the macros for each emote come out with an ugly "M", and I can't tell each apart without a fitting icon, which is not there.
I can bear the new condensed menu without liking it, however,
I find that certain functionality of the old-style menu is gone,
namely - the Return cooldown timer - it's simply not there anymore.
+1 for config option to get the old menu back, too!
Lol, good stuff.
Anyways, I've always been a hotkey kind of player. I never really touched the 'micro menu', so this change shouldn't affect me much.. but what really bothers me is to hear SE's developers constantly come out and say they can't add more options because of: "limitation" this and "limitation" that. *sigh*
It's always something due to their lame game engine. What a piece of junk.
This specific reason has been cited many times for various parts of the UI.Quote:

Looking forward, there will be a lot of UI elements that will run into your 1280x720 limitation. Especially when the player-made add-ons come into play. Please, please, please do not limit resolution on player-made addons. Add-ons exist for customization, it is so we can each get exactly the UI we want. Any such limit on PC add-ons defeat the purpose of add-ons.
I'm very worried about the future of the UI. It seems the UI team work only to be satisfactory at the lowest level. Little room for customization is provided, and where they are provided, they're are very restrictive and cater to the lowest hardware specs. Nothing in the UI is ever made to cater to better specs.
Please put 1920x1080/1200 along side 1280x720 when you design future UI elements. You boast how you compare colors and performance on different major brands of displays, yet you never consider the usability on high resolution. It gives the impression that the work is always half-done.
I also do not like the condensed menu. These changes were made without consulting the community and it is already showing whiplash.
I would like this back as well or at least given the option to go with full or micro menu buttons
All i can say is that SE -better- support add-ons that will give us better customization on our UI. WoW had a lot of different varients, but somehow i doubt Square will allow much to be done.. if it's ever released, anyway.
"Please look forward to it" I guess.. though, as always we'll be hearing "I'm sorry" and "Please be patient" afterwards...
I don't mind the new menus, because I prefer compact nested lists to sprawling icon layouts. But I still think SE should give people the option.
That said, the following argument simply doesn't hold water:
Ctrl, Alt, and Shift (and any combination thereof) can be used for hotkeys, so it's not like people lose custom hotkeys by reassigning the defaults. For example, I use Ctrl+R for return and Ctrl+T for teleport. The only reason I still use the menus at all is to select items that I haven't yet bound. Hotkeys are always quicker for keyboard users than clicking.
Eh, no.
White Knights aside people who love XI and loved the UI there did it because it could be controlled using ONLY the keyboard, so the menu system worked perfect for the way things are structured in that game. Same with using a game pad, it's far more convenient in XI than it ever will be in XIV. No need to use a mouse at all.
But the moment XIV went for the WoW-ish UI that required a mouse was the moment using menus became a liability rather than a good feature. And if you see the silly reply they gave they did it for space because they have decided people playing at 1080p and up have to suffer the same as people playing at 720p. As simple as that.
So again, no, you are unlikely to see anyone from XI (unless they are trolling) defending the menus here.
Can we have a customizable macro menu then? Allow us to put up to X number is shortcuts on it.
This was the issue in 1.0 then was fixed in 2.0 now you went backwards in 2.1?
Who asked for this change and why is there no option to keep it the other way?
With the PvP profile, party recruitment feature, housing menu, and commands added in 2.1, as well as the further increase of main commands in future updates, the original display of the main menu would increase to three rows, so we decided to modify the layout in this current patch. If it were the original 2 row horizontal layout, it wouldn’t fit on 1280x720 screens.
If this is the case then why not make it customizable? Let us choose up to two rows what Icons we want listed.
honestly i dont mind the new menu, the old one i thought had too many buttons. one thing i noticed is that the new menus and submenus now match the xmb menu that PS3 and controller users have.
That new menu is the only thing i really hate about the patch. ûu
I'm playing on 1080p and that new micro menu is an absolute horror. I prefer 3 or even 4 rows than submenus any day. >_>
let me decide what's best for me please... just add an option to get back the old micro menu... thanks
This is how i read Mr. Minagawa's post:

*Note:
You can now shrink the size of the hotbar to 60% size and this size would be the same size as that of the original main menu.
so, great points and caring about the playerbase, SONY BS LIMITATIONS, and a slight workaround. Thanks guys, that was actually helpful
Weird, I thought one of the biggest complaints of the original FFXIV was having to go from menu to menu to get to something.
I guess I will have to get use to this, but this really feels like a step backwards and kind of a lazy solution. Hopefully we will see something better in the future. I feel like every time the UI is toggled with by the team, they go a step backwards like not being able to show/take off what quests you have on your screen (which was in beta by the way). I guess I will just have to depend on the community when they give us the tools to do so, because I don't think I can depend on the actual UI team at this point.
I seriously hope you are joking. The PS3 uses a completely different UI from the PC version, it doesn't even have that micro menu to begin with. This is all on the PC side.
This is the same company that gave us the ability to choose what quests we track in beta, only to take it away. I got reminded yesterday that I still hate SE for that.
Quality of Life ftl.
Old menu back now please!
I use a controller, and it's been sub menus from the beginning. Sucks to be using mouse and keyboard. :P Love my PC with Xbox controller.
I feel like I'm the only one who played with the micro menu hidden :x
It changed?
Absolutely. This needs to be changed back. Or at least given the option to choose between the 2!
