I downloaded WTFast. Any suggestions on the proper setting if I live in Los Angeles?

I just chose the option to search by ping, then chose top choice.
I'm going to use the free month and maybe pay one more, if i still really enjoy FFXIV after that then I will prolly pay an additional of WTFast but hopefully lag is fixed before too long.
I'm living in NC with TWC aswell and I having been lagging pretty much the 2 months I've been playing. People around me will run for a moment and then stop then they will shoot forward 1-2 seconds later. I downloaded WTFast and it seems to have helped tremendously although rarely I do still sometimes see the rubberbanding action. Thing is though I don't have any plans of paying for WTFast and would like to have a better fix.
I am in the Same boat as you. I live in NC and i use TWC and for the past 3 weeks or month i have been getting some lag spikes. its only around .5 sec to a sec lag spike but its enough to make it so i cannot raid.
Going to try WTFast and we'll see how it goes!
WTFast isn't working for me :( But I think I know where TWC is failing me after doing a bunch of tracerts. The gateway for my modem is experiencing anything from 600-3000ms response times, everything else it pretty normal. *sigh*
I guess I'll give twc a call.

wow i am using WTFast as i am typing and i can say this worked for me. the lag spikes are completely gone. i will use this service for the time being at least until SE does something about it. the lag didn't exist before the patch they implemented about 3 weeks ago.
I use TWC in NC.
Same issue here..I am in charlotte, nc as well.....I wonder if we can atleast have some indication on wether SE is looking in to the issue?
Been running tracert's a lot since this this thread started, and my brother is visiting for holidays. It is very obvious the lag is worse here (TWC, NC) than where he lives. However, that node, and the tbone one before it, or the other AEQ-Ashburn hop after it ... one of those three almost always congest in EST evenings and give a timeout in one of the three pings to them.
My latency is not bad off peak hours, but during the evening it is very spiky. Also TWC NC shapes by neighborhood traffic also in primetime (when everyone Netflix), so its a double whammy. I am loathe to pay for WTFast as we already pay for the higher tier to avoid the local shaping.
I've been suffering from this issue since the release. I got Battleping about a week after release and have used it ever since. I haven't had a lag issue ever since and get constantly aggravated when people in my FC complain about lag. Get a VPN. It solved all my issues in this game as well as WoW.
I like TWC, but their routing seems atrocious for some MMOs
TWC isn't going to help much with this issue TBH, especially if it's more than one company away from their nodes, and most of the time they'll stop support after theirs. I've ended up using a VPN which has pretty much fixed the issue for me.
I also live in Los Angeles & have TWC. I don't know all the tech language for this issue, but it's been plaguing me for at least 2 weeks now as well. It's made the game unplayable for me as well. If it wasn't for me playing as a SCH & having a fairy around, those 4-5 second lag spikes would have made for quite a few dead tanks. I'm gonna try Battleping or WTFast in the mean time but I hope whatever this issue is gets repaired soon. This is ridiculous.
LOL SMH I don't know if i should be happy or sad that this is a common issue for people using TWC as ISP. Guess the problem wasn't my roommates torrenting...... Upgraded to Ultimate internet service for nothing hahaha. I'm going to download WTFast right now, will come back with update
I live in Gardena CA (Pretty much Los Angeles)
Just wanted to add that I've tried WTFast and Battleping, both seems to help but from I can tell Battleping has given better results. The game seems alot more smooth then it was.
So I don't think it's just western US, as I am in FL and have been experiencing issues for more than 3 weeks now.
Here's some info, and I realize that part of it is my ISP (BrightHouse, TWC subsidiary)

There is obviously something wrong with Level3.
Using TWC from Lancaster, CA and the game's totally unplayable. Just today we were getting from 40 to 60 second lag with 1-2 seconds of it working in between.
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9471/59fb.png
Currently node 7 for us gets up to 40% packet loss and TWC is telling us that their node isn't their node. Though on average it's looking around 30% packet loss... Which isn't very good....
Otherwise Level 3's nodes are really bad. Especially node 16 which has given us about an average of 20% loss.
http://who.is/whois-ip/ip-address/66.109.9.122
Tell them it's exactly their node, it's nicely written there. Even send them the link if they even try to say otherwise.
So far what I've gotten from TWC is that it's not their node. Got my modem reset after giving me a different IP. Was told to wait 48 hours before they'd have me call them again if I'm still suffering from problems. Um... I've been suffering from problems the entire phone call and have been recording everything going on and I get told that they have no problems and it's not even theirs.
The routing for it all is retarded as well. So I get routed from CA to Kansas (bad node 7) and then back into CA again with Level 3.
So far I don't see my connection getting better in the foreseeable future. From what I understand, eventhough I'm seeing that node 7 is dead... It may not be node 7's fault at all. It may be that TWC can't connect with L3 well and that causes my node 7 to see nonstop errors.
Edit: Apparently nodes 3 through 17 are all located in Kansas.
apparently im in this same boat here with TWC i havent played in alittle over a month and logged in today and could barley move the game was so laggy and choppy and was perfect before i stopped playing whats the deal!!!
I have TWC and live in NC and had this same problem, spoke with a friend of mine who works in IT, and he told me to change my DNS to Google DNS
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
I changed my DNS to those, and i no longer have the 2-3 second lag spikes where everyone just stops. Hope this helps people.
I changed my routers DNS and its a world of difference for me i was about to stop playing altogether because of the spikes, and now I have none.
I'm afraid that I don't understand the internet anymore. Currently at a 55% packet loss and the game has been very playable for the last few hours. 1 second lag with about 5 second relieve.
TWC, Upstate NY. Near constant 2 second hiccups, with longer 10-15 second "freezes". Well fighting Titan, he'll just teleport into the center and do his landing damage as opposed to walk, jump, and stomp. Same with both weights and bombs. There is no dropping animation for the bombs half the time, they'll just appear en masse, and the weights will appear only as they're going off.
Have absolutely no issue with any other MMO, or Netflix, or digital downloads or anything. It's totally, 100% isolated to FFXIV.
I keep having friends asking me about it getting the game, and I seriously can't recommend it to any of them simply because of technical issues, knowing they'd be less patient and understanding than I am about them. And I'm quickly losing that patience myself. It only seems to get worse every week and with every "maintenance".
as of 12/09 the day after maintenance i am no longer getting lag spikes. anyone else?
Been searching the forums for this too. It's been a few days of practically no lag.
I too played last night 12/11/13 Lag spike free. Hopefully it stays the same after the next maintenance.
started getting lag again about half an hour to an hour ago :/
I spoke too soon. Earlier today I was fine. Now I'm suddenly getting an amazing 1.4k ping from I think SE's servers.

I'm having a similar problem as seen below.

Played yesterday and everything was fine, but just lagged so hard in WP I had to quit because I couldn't even tell if my spells were going off...
For me the game is just unplayable tonight.
Did a TRACERT and everything fine until it hits the ninth node:

Does anyone else have these readings too?
So my free trial of WTFast ran out, i got the $9.99 Premium over the $5.99 Basic. I was always at 27ms and now im at 56ms constant.. now thats wtf
So if you only use the "Default" settings I can manage 46ms(which is still garbage compared to the 27ms I was constant at for a month).
Glad to see this issue still being raised to squarenix. I've had tmc here for 6 months and they are still ignorant but im not stopping.
