I'm honestly curious. Please, show me the "bad puclicity" that has stemmed from the COMMUNITY REQUESTED auto-logout feature.
Those are all features that been asked over and over by the community since game launch, and SE has its reasons to not allow it, either because it is in contrast with the game's mechanics (being with a chocobo companion or with FATE groups makes you be effectively in Party, in contrast with your entry to the Duty Finder as solo), or either because they fear it'd be exploited (more allowances/quests), and there are already plenty of threads about this request, which is not in this one. Removing the log-off DURING Duty Finder queue cannot be exploited and is not in contrast with any of the game's mechanics.
It's like I'm asking for a door to stay open when I'm preparing to leave a room and you're suggesting I should ask for the whole wall to be removed.
Is there really an argument over this? Grow up people is it really that hard to log back in? few month s back the "no auto login" feature was a really big problem. Not only because of 3102 and all the other errors but for a fact that people where hogging up servers, leaving the computer to go eat somethingfor a half an hour or go to work for 6 to 8 hours tops! It sickens me that 1017 could have been bipast but it happened and me with thousands of people locked out for the first 2 weeks. Get your shit together because 1017 can always return.
If I want to play a game I usually don't sit in front of the monitor for 30 minutes doing nothing...
I see no problem with the current system.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.
Auto log is implemented so that people don't clog up the servers with people that aren't playing... If you need to stand around and read something for 30 minutes... YOUR NOT PLAYING... I read stuff all the time while i'm running around playing... This feature does as intended and perhaps you should play the game rather than sitting their idol...
The one good thing that can still come from this thread, actually there's a few.
The devs will fix the auto-logout so it can't be so easily circumvented.
The devs will decide that 30 minutes is maybe a little short, provide us with an option between 15 and 60 minutes.
The devs will decide that having the tone be adjustable, both what tone is used, and how loud.
Cause really, if your gone for an hour you aren't playing anyway. At the moment there may be a surplus of space, though I'm inclined to think that is due in large part to the fact that we can't just sit idly 24/7, but population surges tend to happen with patches and expansions. How annoying would it be to be locked out for 3 days after 2.1 hits?
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.
(the ones calling for auto-logout to end) You must the same the people that cried endlessly about culling in GW2 (while playing on a toaster) then when it was removed said "omg why is my computer crashing?""why is there so much lag" etc. You need to be saved from yourselves.
This is a positive thing for the game as a whole (and All MMOs) and easily trumps whatever personal inconvenience you are stretching to invent.
Hello everyone,
Sorry to bump this older thread but, we wanted to let you know that in patch 2.2 we will be removing the auto-logout feature.
Astounding...And yet we're stuck waiting until "sometime after 2.3" in order to get the stupidity of Ready Check addressed.(Forgot there was an update to this. My overall point still stands though.)
To add to this, I could maybe see this four to six months after the PS4 release but to do it before hand is asinine at best.
Not sure where you got that. From Camate's post here:
"Greetings,
I have some additional information about the upcoming adjustments to the Ready Check feature to share.
The development team is currently working on the below:
Changing the feature so it cannot be used while in battle.
Changing the feature so the name of the person who initiated it is displayed.
Addition of a "wait" or "hold" button.
Changing the feature so when you close the Ready Check window it does not automatically pop back up. (The tally results will be displayed in the chat log when doing this.)
The team is currently looking into whether they can implement these prior to patch 2.2."
EDIT: Wow.. You even responded to Camate's post about the Ready Check, but you still somehow got "sometime after 2.3"?
I'd forgotten about that. Still though, it's possible for 2.2. That doesn't mean that it'll be 2.2 at the latest.
Like I said in my edit though, while I don't agree with someone just parking a character online 24/7 and taking up space, to do so when a new influx of players is due within a month is beyond stupid to me.
We don't know the number of people that actually play this game but its safe to say it's was less than early access and launch. The feature was added because of all the people, since they are removing this I think its safe to say its not a lot of people playing where this would become a problem.
This is actually rather confusing considering the post yesterday with having higher levels of server congestion due to increased logins, which was the reason they implemented this in the first place.
I guess they figure if everyone is smart enough to bypass the mechanic by idling on a NPC, craft, etc that there was no point in having it.
That seems like a pretty big assumption. More likely after 6 months of upgrades in both the server software and infrastructure plus the changing way in which the players have been using the game making SE feel like the game can now handle the users staying logged in like this. No need for a "cup is half full" kind of response like you had. So negative.
They've already confirmed that they are adding additional servers. No need for hints when it's already a known factor. This is another good reason the assumptions made by Umero above are off the mark.
Great news for those people that didn't know how to click on npcs or nearly anything else pretty much.
The same people that are joining in PF and randomly logout without realizing it.
So I guess its good for that situation. And I wont have to run to the nearest logout prevention point when I need to go to the restroom for 30 mins or go get some takeout, cook, exercise w/e lol. Not tryin to be a downer or anything. Maybe they'll implement a nice feature along side this like... Bazaars, repair requests and/or meld requests! Not trying to sound like a advocate for the auto logout, theres not very many reasons for it to be around. I'll definitely be cool with it. I just hope there wont be a situation where there is like idk, a thousand people afk in wineport, and no one can enter to do there basic leves/fates, because all the coil people are afk out there. I doubt that will be a issue but would be funny lol.
Late comment, but after 30 minutes of inactivity it will ask you if you want to be logged out and give 20 seconds to respond.
If you never seen this then obviously you deserved to be logged out. No excuse to this other than the fact that you were AFK more than 30 minutes and wasting server space.
Was a major downer when I couldn't find a good way to stay in game after the FC I'm a part of spent an inordinate amount of money on a house, so this is pretty great news for me. Certainly, that is a rather minor complaint, but even on the more populated server of Excalibur, server congestion is not exactly a tremendous deal, so autologout was pretty pointless to begin with. Especially since there were so many ways to circumvent it.
So what happens when 2.2 hits and then PS4 versions goes live and we are back to real queue times? Will they have to add this back in? Pretty sure with 2.2 we are going to see a lot of player Resub and when PS4 launches we will see a lot of new players. True you can get around the lockout by talking to a NPC or using Market Boards, But I doubt a lot of players even know that.
Just funny people wanted it, Now they don't, And later they might want it again. Don't see why anyone needs to stay logged in 24/7. Don't really care if they take it out long as it doesn't effect my playtime, I haven't had to Queue since they added it (except for the crazy -15,376 player thing). So that means either people were getting kicked or lots of people quit. Cause before they added it took a long time to get on. So I hope if SE needs to add the feature back into the game they can do it in a "Hotfix"
But it might not be so bad now that Legacy can transfer to Non-Legacy.
thing is about the auto logout is different people want it and different people don't want it so like in 2.2 when it is taken out a thread about addding a auto lock out will be made by the people who want the auto log out and the people who don't want it will defend it sorta like the people who orginally wanted it made a thread and people who didn't defended not having it. it will be an infinite loop that will prolly never end at this rate xD
It will be the same thing again when they take it out and Queue times pop back up.
This is what I don't understand, People are against the feature but they know how to bypass it. If you know how to bypass it, why do you care if its stays in the game? I guess SE should have made it so it really works. Also what is the real reason we don't really have long Queue times anymore since they added it? Is it because the feature actually works (some don't know how to bypass it) or because FFXIV Subs have dropped off? So When they remove it and we have returning players for 2.2 and new players for PS4 launch and Queue times are horrible Another thread will pop back up asking to add it back.
While I understand you want to stay in game, although I must admit, I can't fathom it other than being lazy. I wish the servers were set up like GW2 and that there was an overflow area you could send people that "time out" in the case of FFXIV, that would be pretty nice to send players to a mock town where they can sit in a type of time out limbo until they want to join the game again with people actually playing.
