I main healer and pld tank up to turn 5 with a controller, and I would upload a video if there is enough demand for it. (My crossbar setup is on page 3)
But what turn and what job are most people interested in? (Haven't beat turn 5 yet)

Yes I knew that, considering I am playing on a ps3. I guess I was not completely clear, I meant between friendly players. I noticed he was switching in the party between players while skipping several names. When I try to select others in the party with a gamepad, I have to manually move over each party member till ir each the one I wanted.
I don't think you can on PS3, but I also have an extra bar on my setup (PC using a controller).
Just go into your HUD layout, select the bar you want, and hit Y, or Triangle. (Or right-click) to show/hide. Once it's shown, you can put abilities on it. I use that for things like my sword/shield oath and other abilities I'm not actively using.
Thanks. Yeah very useful for those thins we dont use much or abilities with really long cooldowns.
Not necessarily.
Character Settings -> Hotbar Settings -> Cross -> Set Selection. Check enable customization (including when weapon is drawn) and check only hotbars 1 and 2, then you can put skills on more bars without it toggling past the second.
I use the third hotbar for things like Summons, buffs and stances. It'll only enable if I press R1 + X.
With locked hotbars (who on earth wouldn't switch this on) you can cycle through targets with the left and right bumpers. Can't imagine anything quicker than a single button press?Quote:
I'm not trying to say that gamepad can't work just fine as the game was designed with it in mind, but it's still slower to switch targets than a mouse.
Considering how wonky the mouse is in this game, I'd rather argument with the F keys allowing your to switch targets faster, or setting multiple skills macroed to directly cast on party member x (the latter being also possible on gamepad). I can't count how many times I clicked with the mouse on a target only for the game to count it as a sliding click and not register it.
You have to hold your mouse perfectly still for it to register your clicks, which bring us to the next point: traveling time. A gamepad' down/down/down will bring you to party member 3 in a set time, which is under 2.5 gcd. Depending on the position of the mouse, the travel time can be longer or shorter, but still under the 2.5gcd. However, the position of the mouse is not guaranteed, you have to hold the mouse still over the party member, which is harder to do in stressful situations for me.
Maybe <mo> macros help with that, but then you will have to have 2 same skills on the bar. Depending on your total skill count, you will have to perform finger acrobatics to e.g. reach ctrl+0. Let go off the mouse? movement loss. Small finger on lctrl, thumb on the 0? I can't do that blind. Remapping helps partially, but I'd still have to look away from the screen to reliably press the correct key combination. There is also clicking skill with the mouse that introduces more travelling time and the same wonky clicks.
So yes, changing targets is potentially slower on the gamepad, but if you organize your party member list intelligently, all the advantage a keyboard will potentially give you is the ability to spam the healing key waiting for the GCD to reload. Prejudices against gamepad players are completely unjustified. People can suck with either, and if you force me to use the keyboard, it will end up very, very ugly.
Only applies to enemy targets. Can't target party members or npcs even if your filter is set to friendly/all.
when i said it hinders us.. i merely meant party member cycling.. with key and mouse you have <mo> and the ability to click the member on the field or in the party list.. on gamepad you have to cycle down with the dpad.. sometimes you can cycle past them and start healing the wrong person etc.. i dunno its not a big hinderance i was just saying it for that reason.. i personally have no problems healing with a gamepad.. i dont think games should be played on something that was designed to type on.. but i do think PC gamepads should come with way more buttons lol
I can't imagine trying to play this game on a controller.... No matter how good it is.
I use a KB + Mouse on PC with standard camera mode.
WASD to move, mouse to position camera and I have 6 hotbars with things bound to
1-9
Alt 1-9
Ctrl 1-9
Alt E, Alt W, Alt X, Shift W, Shift E, Shift R, Ctrl W, Ctrl E, Ctrl Q, etc etc.
So my left hand stays on wasd in general and can press everything I have with one hand and my right hand never leaves the mouse. I also have a G600 Logitech 12 button mouse with push to talk for voice chat on my mouse and my paladin/war mitigation buffs are double bound, ctrl 1-9 and the mouse is also ctrl 1-9 so I press whatever is faster pending on where my hands are at the moment.
As requested, this is how I have my crossbars setup. Be warned, it might look crazy and inefficient to some people, and honestly it probably is. It's just how I set it up and got used to it, I have several abilities that require me to alternate between right and left trigger, this gives a weave-like feeling during combat which I feel helps with pacing. This may not work for everyone, but it has for me. I'm currently on turn 5 in coils.

While running to the next group of mobs, I will hit Left bumper to switch to set 2, mark up with left trigger then switch back to set 1.
Left trigger+B for shield lob, Right trigger+Right on D-Pad for Circle of scorn, then Right trigger+Y for flash.
Without a trigger held down, you can cycle between targets with left/right on your D Ppad, so my basic Rage of halone combo, is:
Right Trigger+X for Fast Blade
Right Trigger+A for Savage
Left Trigger+X for Rage of Halone
Then I'll weave in
Left trigger+Left on dpad for spirits within (unless im saving it for something specific)
Then Right Trigger+right on the dpad for circle of scorn whenever it's up, unless it's near the end of a pull.
Right trigger+B for riot blade
Right trigger+down on dpad for shield bash
Provoke is right trigger+up on the dpad. So if I wanted to provoke+shield lob it would be right trigger+up, left trigger+B. Or if I was trying to use a combo'd rage of halone it'd be right trigger+up then left trigger+X
Then I have my defensive cooldowns, mostly on the left trigger.
Left trigger+Down on dpad rampart
Left trigger+right on dpad for sentinel
Left trigger+up on dpad for foresight
Left trigger+Y for convalescence
Then I have bloodoath, awareness, cover and bulwark in set 2 on my right trigger.
I have hallowed ground on my hotbar to avoid it accidentally being used.
I'll be happy to record a dungeon run, which would people like to see?
Oh, and for raiding, I have push to talk bound to right-bumper, I don't have to switch to set 2 very often during fights so it's not an issue that it sometimes switches to set 2, only takes a quick press to go back to set1 again.

I use only gamepad on pc and ps3 and will only use this. I have always played a healer here, xi and in any other games I play. For those saying you should never use a controller, thats b/c you haven't figured it out yet or are inexperienced at using it. What I do is target main tank and move between others that need heals with the up and down d-pad keys, once cast on a different party member or mob, my target automatically goes back to the main tank without having to do anything. If i want a mob for dmg, I simply use the d-pad to go left and right to target them. I have macros set up to cast de-buffs on the tanks mob that he has using <tt> and never have to target a mob that way. I can solo heal Garuda just fine on SCH with my game pad. I also make sure that on my SCH or WHM my heals are always set in the same position on the cross bars and dmg spells in the same area as well. I have one set all healing and buffing and another set for fairy and another for dmg. Then of course I have the set that crosses from job to job (mounts, potions, etc.). Good luck and it is wonderful to play on a controller!
