Need to put lock outs on over populated jobs.

Lawl... theres no tank shortage.... Their just level 50 and don't use the duty finder for low level dungeons anymore. And any tanks leveling up low level are a dps or healer leveling their alt so their not going to tank.

Basically, Duty Finder is a luxury, a nice to have feature.... It's not something you balance a game around.

If this were implemented, I just wouldn't use the Duty Finder.

...oh wait, I never do anyway.

If you, as a DPS, cannot make friends with a single Tank on your server to queue with, you are failing at MMOs.

Also, someone made a great point in that you don't even need a Tank to complete most dungeons. Summoner w Titan is adequate for most if not all dungeons in Duty Finder provided you can make your own party on your server.

*Shrugs* I generally never have to wait any longer than 15~30 min in the DF any more.

I'm a pld and war level 50, both with relic, but the reason I don't like to use them, unless asked by a friend or a FC mate, is because people expect us to know everything. If the fight goes to hell, it's the tanks fault.

I wanted to tank Titan as War, but the healer were complaining that they were healing too much... (seriously). So, for me to do my relic in WAR I had to become a WAR dps instead and let someone else tank it as a PLD.

These are some of the reasons why people don't like tanking.

The other reason is that PLD is not fun to tank. Where as with WAR I'm having a blast, but I can't use it because healers don't like to heal WAR... So how can I play a tank, when it's just a dilemma just to play it. That's why I don't like playing tank. I rather play SMN or BLM instead, even it if takes me hours to get in the DF.

How about no. People should be able to play whatever class they choose to, just like you do. Why should they be forced into a certain class that they don't enjoy? Just make friend with a tank or play one. My queue as Warrior is instant and I enjoy it but I don't regularly go DF as I have people in my FC to run with, that I know they're good.

Stupidest suggestion that I have read on these forums to date. It doesn't go your way, so you want everyone to pay the penalty because you are experiencing long wait times like everyone else playing DPS?

Play as a tank if you want insta-queue times - problem solved. Or befriend a Tank from your LS/FC/server.

I actually wonder why they don't let you select which job you want to role on. I'd love to queue as my tank or healer for my shot at demagogue ring, but I will not due to not being able to need on it, and I'm sick of "seal-spec" people winning it over me.

Out of 102 people in my FC, 18 of them are Paladins. 7 are Warriors. That's nearly 25% of my FC as tanks.
Obviously that doesn't mean the entire population falls in that statistic, but 9/10 times someone asks to join
the FC it's a Paladin. Just sayin'. =P

Or you as dps can stop calling tanks noobs and complaining about their bad threat, and stop pulling before them and start to give them time to build threat.

Oh but forget what I say, I'm an under leveled noob what do I know.

So because I choose to only play a DPS I should be punished? Riiiight.

Not going to speak for the tank I just did AK with, But as a PLD myself the reason why we don't have so many Tanks is because of crappy DPS (not their actual DPS) that can't do their jobs. Just did AK with my MNK A BRD/WHM/PLD the WHM kept trying to do the PLDs job and pull mobs and then wanted to fight a different mob other than what me and the tank was on. Long story short he died like 3xs lol.

You're assuming the tank can mark. I'm finding out that the higher the dungeon the less they mark. I often find miyself trying to figure out which target the tank is focusing on.

Tanks as a class seem to attract selfish narcissists, in it for fast queues, and a power trip by lording their ability to make and break teams over whatever poor sap ended up in the queue with them.

Tanks are hard to come by because how they have been treated in FFXIV, one of my friend he actually quit playing because he had been verbally abused by other players (MMO bullies). My question is why cant those players spend a little bit of time to explain the boss fight before step in the fight with new or inexperienced tank?

I am still new to tanking, I would study the dungeons or boss fight before I DF or FC it, but there is nothing can really prepare you fully instead of jump in to the fight. So next time when you see an inexperienced tank, please be nice to him/ her.

Well this has got to be the dumbest idea ever. So you are saying YOU are allowed to play any class YOU want but you want to force other players to play tank for you? Even if they don't want to? As many people say there isn't a tank shortage . They just don't queue because it's better to find a group in shout,fc, or linkshell. If you want to use the duty finder . Sadly I wish this is how it worked.

On several occasions now we've had inexperienced tanks, and my attempt to explain the fight was met with them telling me to STFU/blame me or the healer and then bail, leaving us to start all over again queuing for 30-40 minutes. As DPS you learn a golden rule of dungeons VERY VERY fast:

Never,
...question the tank's decisions
...try and explain a fight
...pull aggro
...ninja mobs
...and for the love of god, never EVER try and tell a tank how to do his job

breaking the above ruels as a DPS or healer almost guarantees you'll be back on the duty finder for another half hour.

While your friend may have wanted, need or even appreciated help. The behaviour of the majority of PUG tanks ensure that no DPS or healer will dare pipe up and give him the advice he needs, and by the time they are willing to talk, it's because they'll already have decided the run is over at which point the knives come out expressing their frustration before the team dissolves.

I just recently passed Ifrit and Garuda, I would study the video clips online before I DF or FC it, and I would let the rest of party members know that I am new to it, most of time they would share their experience with me, but a lot of times some other members would say something like "what are you doing here?" or "go watch the videos online" or " ohhh, another Mr. happy here". even with that I choose to stay and learn the fight, but it could easily be the other way around (quit DF). People gotta understand, maybe tank is not acting "that way", they are just simply reacting".

This sucks big. I have been helped out and given so many tips from DPS telling what I can do to make things easier. It wasn't long ago when I was told I could LoS the big golem in AK. Never knew that.

When there are no tanks available, play as one.

Terrible idea. Take this away, and you'll see people stop queuing on their alt tank (-1 tank in the player pool) and going on their dps (+1 dps in the player pool). Completely counter productive if you're trying to solve a tank shortage.

Your problem is you're using the duty finder.. Just find a smn to titan tank and grab 2 other dps and a healer and go. Its just as fast with a normal tank without all of the queing and drama.

I shout for a tank.. If one isnt available, i use what is to get the job done.

So people are shouting, need more tanks, need more healers! Well... where do you think they are going to come from? They could add 10 new tank and heal classes tomorrow, and there would still be a shortage because none of the DPS switched over. If you want more tanks, BE A TANK, you'll never be short one again.

Not enough Tanks.

Give people a reason to level it.
Give a 10% bonus on myth cap.

Do a run get 30 or 40 myth points. And 3 or 4 bonus that goes above the cap.
So 300 cap + bonus per week 30 or 40 extra points.


Another idea

Give tank or healer or DPS a bonus

DPS queue up in for 1 hour
Healer Queus up in for 30 min
DPS Queus up in for 15 mins
Tank queues up in queue for 15 seconds.

Longest in queue is base
Healer in for 30 min gets 10%
2nd DPS in for 15 gets 20%
Tank gets 30%

Above Cap.
This would reward who ever enter last more.

No bonus for progression.

This isn't to give Tank more point but to make people want to tank more.

I've started both a Healer and a Tank. Trust me both get a lot of flack if someone suddenly dies xD. Its annoying especially if its the DPS fault who stays in the attack range, gets hit and dies from an additional aoe swipe from the boss << Then cry that they aren't being healed.

Damage Dealers, if you think you can heal better please be healers, if you feel you can tank better, please be a tank xD. But stop whining when its your fault and your not trying to dodge.

We definitely need more tanks though.

Yes, because there are loads of tanks out there, we just have no reason to use the Duty Finder or participate in public groups. If you want a professional tank who knows what they are doing, a little gil goes a long way. Not sure what is so absurd about this. You don't HAVE to pay a tank, sure, roll the dice in Duty Finder instead. Keep on waiting in queues, I've got other stuff to do anyway. You don't HAVE to come onto the forums claiming there to be a tank shortage either.

I find this ridiculous. You don't need to pay anyone to run things like AK/WP.... You don't even need a professional tank, just a tank with a brain and understanding how the game works... Another option is to just shout in Mor Dhona for tank, if you have a good run with them, add them to friend list and call them again when you need to run. Done.

Yes, all viable options of course. Mor Dhona is better than using Duty Finder. Linkshells and Free Company are even better. However, the OP's point was that there is a tank shortage in the DF. I was just stressing that there ARE tanks out there, we just don't have a reason to do public DF groups at all.

Just because YOU feel self entitled that you need to be paied to tank, does not mean every one else is that greedy. under no point or time should a suggestion to pay someone to take hits just so they don't wait in DF is ever a good idea. no matter how you slice it, it's an absurd thing to even suggest. their are ways to make gill in this game without trying to take advantage of people for your own self gain, not to mention you are more or less telling other tanks you are so good that you need to be paied. which further makes you look bad.

But thankfully your breed is very rare so it's not a problem people need to face. because chances are you'll end up finding a good tank anyway, that isn't asking you to pay them to play an MMO with you. so please, stop trying to justify it. because it does not make it any less silly. tank shortage or not, they aren't so rare that we won't ever find one that needs to be paied.

While he is being somewhat arrogant, paying someone to tank for you is a viable option. If you are unable to wait and/or do not wish to, paying someone to do so is perfectly acceptable. It is a matter of convenience. Many tanks will go along without being paid, but to say that paying someone for their time is wrong or for someone to charge for the convenience of an insta queue, is in itself wrong. It's like materia melding. You don't have to tip them, but sometimes it is nice, and it's convenient if you haven't leveled your own craft to those levels yet. Paying a tank or group for a run is essentially tipping a DoW/M.

Your suggestion is dumb and your facts are wrong.

Ever hear of the saying "time is money"? Do you understand what opportunity cost is? The time you spend looking for a party, waiting in queue, running back from wipes in DF, waiting for a replacement after someone AFKs/leaves, all that time can be spent doing something else.

In an hour I can run 4-6 WPs. Compare that to someone roughing it in the Duty Finder. They're lucky to get 1 run done in an hour.

Pay someone 5k and get 300-600 tomes per hour vs Other options @ 100-300 tomes per hour

Hmm thats a hard one.

I know crafters for every profession that I can go to for free/cheap combines/melds, doesn't mean I scoff at everyone who is charging 50k for a 2star HQ craft, nor do I call them 'self entitled'. You are free make your own friends in shout/linkshell/free company or to chance it in Duty Finder, or find a tank who either doesn't have the gear or the experience, that's your choice! But the option to pay someone still remains very viable. Sorry you care so much about your pennies.

Actually, people pay me every day to tank instances for them. Some are even on friends list and come back as repeat customers each week.

Simple case of a fool and his money, does not mean everyone is that desperate, no different then someone paying 20k for an item thay can get from an NPC for 50 gill. impatience.

Nothing wrong with someone offering you gill if they feel the need to give away gill..
