Being a tank, I feel the opposite. We all had our first times, and I bet all those people yelling at you to skip didn't on theirs. If I'm your tank and people are mad cause anyone else watched c/s, I will defend them and tell everyone else to deal with it.

It's not your job to get through a run as fast as possible. it is your job to hold hate and help keep people from dying.

You are only to lead people through as quickly as possible if EVERYONE has agreed to a speed run. This typically works best in a group that you form yourself or join on your server, rather than the DF. Since the DF doesn't have that function.

Me, I was more than happy to watch the cs's later, but to each their own.

But this is just as rude of you if you can't understand that this issue is basically a glitch, skip a cs, and help your group.

Edit: I never pressured someone out a cs in there, but thankfully the cs people would drop cs when they saw someone say the boss was attacking.

I feel your point and agree 99.9%, but play devils advocate. If the option were there to run the instance without cutscenes (runs for only philo tomes) you'd sit in duty finder for HOURS waiting for 7 other first timers. Just saying, sometimes you gotta deal with people and thier attitudes if you want to get stuff done.

People still run PR for philosophy? I didn't know that happened after WP started dropping myth..

Seems like a good way to get tomes slower.

Watch the cutscenes, and if anyone complains about it, simply mention that you watch cutscenes just to annoy people like them.

That's quite an assumption, and considering the last group I was in had 7/8 people (including myself) viewing cutscenes every time they came up (and having the majority, if not all, watching CSes has been common in leveling dungeons) I'm inclined to disagree with you.

No no, if someone pulls the boss, they deserve whatever they get, but that particular boss.. you defeat previous boss, get cutscene, come out, there's boss and some people are sometimes right on top of it.

Noone is pulling it, it agros. It's a small programming oversight.

That of course is different, but I'm not going to fault anyone who just goes "Eh, it's a wipe anyway. I'm gonna finish watching the scene."

Hell, that exact scenario happened on this exact run. Tank accidentally pulled, went "oops" in party chat, everyone else kept watching CS. He and a sole solitary healer made it a point to keep everyone alive and NOT focus down the boss. Other DPS stayed off the boss until everyone finished watching the CS.

THAT is a good group. Not because of skill necessarily, but because of courtesy.

The rant was actually about a group of people continually flaming after which I got paired with a GOOD group, but reading the thread (or at least my own posts in it - or at the very least the OP and post you quoted) would have told you that.

Let's go ahead and make things a bit clearer, since you're having some trouble with reading comprehension (and getting uppity, which I probably wouldn't recommend in your position).

- If I'm watching the scene and advising the party to "go ahead and 7 man it if it's that important to them", it stands to reason that I'm likely the only person watching cutscenes.
- In the most recent post before yours, I stated that 7/8 people were still watching the scene. The tank pulled by mistake. Therefore, it's likely the tank was NOT watching the scene, and was therefore the 8th person.
- Logically, this would mean these are two different runs. The first was fraught with flaming and frequently bosses would be pulled, and in many cases killed, before the cutscene had completed. This is aside from the racial/homophobic slurs and constant harassment that flooded party chat.

I'm not disagreeing that there is something wrong with watching the CS, my point to be clear is if you're using duty finder to get these quest done you're going to have to put up with people and thier attitudes. If you want a group of 8 that are going to do it the way you want it done DF is the wrong route to go. Just think of yourself lucky 3 of the 8 didn't go afk so you could clear it for them and they get free tomes.

Yeah, there are worse things than getting flamed or left behind in CS when you use duty finder.

You've joined the not-so-exclusive club of people with bad DF experiences.

You are so very full of assumptions.

The biggest one being that Duty Finder groups are inherently bad. I've had more positive than negative. In fact my most recent run is screaming evidence against your point (if it can be called that).

I did put up with people and their attitudes. That doesn't make them okay, nor does it mean I should have to.

If 7 people are farming prea/cm for tomes and have to pug off the df to fill one slot then they should have the decency to allow that one person to enjoy the experience their paying a sub fee to have. We have FC, LS, and /shout to make SR parties

And yes, i know more than one of you have experienced this, but in all my runs of CM I've not seen a single person say anything rude when a player watches a cutscene. I've seen people mention it, like "oh, they must be in a cutscene" and at the very most "I wish people would say they'll be watching cutscenes", but not a single time have I seen anyone say anything rude.

I had a group when I went through prae shouting at me to skip cs and I was even left out of the Nero & Gaius fight. As for the Gaius fight, I watched the CS and as soon as i finished watching and reading it, the fight was sealed and couldn't do anything for the elevator and then the next CS rolls. AHHH >:(

I had a bad experience es well the day before yesterday. My husband and I did CM and Praet back to back. In CM, I said we wanted to watch cutscenes at the beginning, as I had read some of the stories on the forums before. The people were fine with it (or at least didn't complain), plus an experienced tank taught the other tank, who was new as well, all the pulls, which was awesome.

In Praet, the Monk said "Don't watch them, I watched them at the inn as well and skipped them on my first run". I (healer) said: "I don't want to skip them, if you are not fine with it I will dodge and we queue up again". Cause I don't mind 15 minutes waiting + 10 to 15ish in queue (it was early afternoon), cause I'm not in a rush with anything. Needless to say he said we should just go do the run. Run went ok up to Ultima, he made some comments about how a boss would be downed faster than the cutscene etc, but we mainly ignored him and proceeded through the dungeon.
Oh, there were 4 people watching the cutscenes by the way, the other 3 people were silent the whole run.
Anyhow at the first Ultima battle we got the great explanation "Dodge s*it" when asked how the fight goes, and we wiped on the first try. We asked for more explanations, so he said "Red area: dodge, purple area dodge, laser dodge" or something like this and said we should watch youtube videos. We wiped once more, before everyone got the hang of the moves and the fight, and killed it on third try.
I am unfortunately noone who can completely keep quiet with people like this, and while I didn't insult him I did ask him why he would use the DF if he doesn't have patience with new people (also referring to watching the cutscenes) all the while he kept raging about us wasting time. Not sure how not explaining fights does not waste time, but meh, I don't mind wiping as long as there is progress to be seen which was the case.
(Looking back, "Dodge everything" is a quite accurate description of the fight, but when you haven't seen the moves before, you get confused easily so just listing what the mob does can help a ton)
At last, during the last cutscene during which he left the dungoen of course, he left us a nice "selfish a**holes".

I did not make a screenshot of this, so believe me or not, I don't have anything more than my words to convince you guys but I have no reason to lie about this. I know this was just one jerk, and the CM run showed that it can go a nice way too, but it is very sad that people have to put up with this.

I constantly go into these dungeons on my healer just for people who are new and would love to watch the cutscenes, if I notice someone watching I will watch too, or at least stand with them until they are done, I find people are a little less inclined to continue if they're missing two or more people one of which is a healer. I always stand up for people when others try to grief them into skipping. People are ridiculous, you only get the storyline once unless you create multiple characters, so enjoy it =D

Yeah I actually missed half of the Ultima Weapon fight in Praetorium (the 2nd one) and I missed the final battle with Lahabrea entirely because my group couldn't wait while I was watching the cinematics.

So I guess I "beat" the game, but I would have liked to have actually participated in the final battle....

I really should have taken some screenshots, but the people in this particular run were ruthless. And as I said, although my experience has been largely positive, it's not isolated to this one incident.

I haven't been flamed this badly since I played LoL. "Kill urself <racial slur>" was commonplace.

lol, threads like these really push me to get to end game already. The nerdrage for playing the game as its meant is going to make up for the monotony of running the same instance so many times.

I fully support anyone who wants to watch the cutscenes. They are meant to be watched and should be. However I just want to clarify, all cutscenes can be watched in the inn. ALL of them. You just have to look under the proper category. If you have found one not there please let me know so I can find it for you.

Could someone explain for example, how to watch cutscene for toto-rak, when you are running first time (with masked mage and dialogues)?

A little off topic but its been mentioned a few times, one misconception I see is that Praetorium is the end of the main storyline currently. Unfortunately it continues after that with HM primal quests and then leads into the binding coil. Theres a large chunk of this games population that isnt going to get to see how the story plays out after Praetorium for a long time.

DF is where the problem is. If speed runners would make their own groups with like minded players or at least didnt go all nerdrage every time a random DF player with random experiences and gameplay styles ...well, this thread wouldnt even exist, would it?

Under "Main Scenario Quests" select "Into the Beast's Maw" and watch the 4 cutscenes. (Slider bar to change cutscenes)

I would have preferred to watch all the cutscenes the first time I ran CM/TP as well - but the other 7 folks in my group didn't seem interested so I skipped to keep from needlessly inconveniencing them. Now, a few dozen runs in and wanting for more tombstones, I fully understand why they didn't want to watch those cutscenes again - or wait 5 minutes at the entrance and exit to every room.

Might try advertising for cutscene runs the way folks advertise for speedruns, otherwise you're likely to get left out of the fights and miss a few of the scenes anyway.

I just watched them the first time too, as healer. Was awesoime to watch them. Next runs, I skip them, they are quite long. :/

My first Prae run was through DF, and I watched every cutscene. They moved ahead, started boss fights without me, etc. Not a single f*** was given by me.

I completely agree with OP. The problem is that most of the people in queue for CM PRT are doing it for farm. Which is dumb since you can run WP for the same amount of tomes now and its a lot faster. The problem that arises here is that, it took me 2-3 days to actually get a Q to pop for CM. When it did they were doing everything so fast that cutscenes were popping while we were fighting things. After i watched a couple of CSs people started to tell me that if I dont skip them they will leave me behind and start boss fights without me. I told them it was my first time and I wanted to watch the CSs, they told me to "Watch at inn". So it means that if you want to really be part of the end of the game, you will need to do it with an FC that is willing to wait. < none of this is actually good, and it is terrible for the community. I hate to do this because i don't like comparing past with present BUT, the FFXI community was waaaay better than this. Where did they go?

Well like I said earlier, no one can tell anyone how to play their game. If it's my first time there, I am going to watch the cut scenes. And I did just that. Even telling the snob who complained that I didn't care and if I left, the run would end. At the last boss, said idiot decided to pull the boss. But nope, I continued to watch the cut scene. If they aren't going to wait, then they can simply deal with it till the cut scenes end. And when the cut scene did end, the guy who was complaining, was first to die, the boss was 25% so I picked up the healing and we beat it. And no, I did not rez the guy, I thanked the others for the group and went on my way.

So you decided to inconvenience 7 other people so you could do your own thing despite having queued as a team, and then when you finally got around to helping you refused to be a team player anyway. Luckily, they managed to drag you through it regardless.

I never understood ruining a run for other people, especially now that you can get tomes faster in WP. If you really must have a speed run of Prae or CM, then don't use the duty finder for it. Get a group of 8 fc members and do it that way. No need to ruin other people's fun.

On one hand, if the tank pulled the boss when the party wasn't ready (the party list clearly shows anyone watching a cutscene, then it's kind of an issue with the tank and not the player watching the cutscene. On the other hand, it is a utilitarian debate and honestly I wish they would have kept such cutscene heavy Main Scenario content as solo.

Have you tried running Prae or CM recently? I've not seen a run in the last dozen where more than 2 people weren't with Ifrit weapons and/or darklight gear. If 6 or 7 people want to move forward and only 1 or 2 want to watch the cutscenes, can it really be said that the supermajority is "ruining" it? Seems like it would be the other way around to me. Those 1 or 2 folks could grab an FC group to watch the cutscenes just as easily.

Agreed on all points. An opening cutscene is fine, kinda cool even, in my opinion - and they're generally done about the time buffs have been handed out anyway. 2-5 minute cutscenes at the entrance and exit to every major area is more than folks can be expected to wait through.

Yeah, there's two sides, but the side you mentioned is simply ridiculous.

I've been leveling all classes and I constantly get people watching the long cutscene in Toto-Rak. I don't ***** at them to hurry up, I just wait patiently because I know that I also prefer to watch the cutscenes on my first time. This "inconveniencing the other 7 people" argument is utter crap. Its a storyline dungeon, first timers should be allowed to watch the cutscenes in peace.

If you don't want to be "inconvenienced" by people enjoying the game, then you're the one that should make his own group to run the dungeon.
