We honestly had more trouble with the Gigas when we did it.
This is how I beat it on my SMN as well - it helps a lot if the tank moves with the boss and keeps it stationary in the center of the seeds - otherwise your timing needs to be good.
As for WHM using holy - this tactic becomes availible at level 48 when you get SoS refresh - a 47 WHM will go OOM trying it
Maybe it was just the teams I ran it with, but half the time I didn't really have a chance to switch to the boss to DoT safely. I would, on non-AoE-heavy teams use Miasma II for some help, but generally I had my hands full just keeping people alive by the time the adds started spawning, and then getting the annoying things off of me once they did start attacking...
Though that part is probably not really my fault.
Didn't you get the memo? http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post1428873
Just ONE way to unlock AK and its by completing Aurum Vale + Praetorium. There is no other way so dont believe anything else. I tried all those theories people said of how to unlocked it and none worked.
I've done this dungeon for only one try. Didn't seem that hard like the description of TS.
Clear communication and strategy is an absolute must in this dungeon for sure. Things that helped big time was;
1. LockS: Tank emphasized the "Gold Lung" Debuff and made sure everyone knew exactly where to look for their current standing with the Debuff, Tank marked each fruit with Square, Circle, Triangle and X, and everyone designated themselves with each fruit when their debuff reaches 2/3
2. CoinC: He doesn't have Rings, but we personally used the little loading bar that appears on our screen with the initiating move. As soon as we seen the 100 swipe or Eye of Beholder loading we ran like hell... tank would run through its legs which makes me chuckle every time XD. We also made sure we're not in his sights when he randomly turns away from the tank.
Side note, Drgs looks awesome when they Elusive Jump away from 100 Swipe like a boss..
4. Final Boss: repeat strategy from 1st boss and focus any and all AOEs on the adds.
For the players saying to promote yourself in your GC to get the quest, your mistaken. SE changed the promotion quest to Lt. AV instead of AK.
Aurum Vale was tough but it felt so good when you finally beat it.
This is only half the argument though. Some people are saying you need to do AV to unlock AK, which isn't true.
The only thing SE changed is what was quoted above: The promotion quest to 2nd Lt.
You can still unlock AK perfectly fine without ever going through AV. You can either finish the main story quests, OR you can do your grand company questline (which runs you through AV first).
May I ask how? I had a character in Tonberry pre-patch who was able to unlock AK without doing AV but was unable to do so on my character in Balmung. When I reached that part of the Relic Reborn quest, there was no option to unlock AK by talking to an NPC or something.
I got full DL and relic, and I am scared of that place too lol.
Would take titan over AV any day!
I ran it initially with 2 SMN (both RL friends) and a DF healer. Interestingly, we struggled more with Coincounter. We had to use 3 total "battle rezes" and finished it only by kiting the boss around (he stops frequently to cast his abilities, fortunately).
The last boss, well, I can understand how it's hectic, but we just didn't have a problem with it. I'm thinking the skill of our healer probably covered up for mistakes, but really it's just about everyone managing their stacks and not getting breathed on.
Overall, I enjoyed the instance. Malboro is such an iconic enemy in FF lore. I fondly remember the FFVIII encounters, where as soon as the Malboro loads, you could pretty much put down your controller and watch as your players slowly kill themselves over the next 5 minutes.
I've done this dungeon over 20 times as Scholar. Minus the first boss where Eos is pretty much guaranteed to die a horrible, horrible death (and you don't need her anyway in that boss if your group is on the ball with the fruits) this dungeon has always been easier for me as SCH than WHM. Reason being, Eos can main heal with Rouse while you DPS the seedlings. Cleric Stance -> DoTs -> Bane. Those seedlings will drop *fast.* The trick is to not let Eos do what she wants to do, put her on Steady and make her heal the way you want her to. SCH is all about micromanaging and once you get that down, it's hard to stop us.
The problem I have with Coincounter is that, up until that point, there is no fight in the game that requires you to watch the enemy's movements, and it remains one of the extremely few fights in the game in which you have to do this. You can't condition your players to watch for the red for 40+ levels and then throw them that curveball and expect them to instantly adapt. It's easy once you get a grasp on it, but if you're new to that dungeon, you will never know to expect this.
I liked this dungeon for its difficulty, but it's completely out of left field and unexpected, and then the game goes back to easy mode almost immediately after. It's kind of an oddball experience.
I agree with that. To make things even more difficult, swings are similar enough to the auto-attacks he does that you can easily mistake when a swing is coming your first try. I think SE really needs to work on future enemies that act like Coincounter.
I know Demon's Souls is a real-time game and very different from FF14 but if you compare the following videos, you will see enemies like Coincounter should really be polished more so the boss movement gives players more visual cues to know when to dodge.

Did it with PLD+SCH+MNK+SMN
3rd boss no wipe.
When Mistress is running to lay it's eggs SMN and SCH just put all DOTs on her and once eggs appeared BANE to spread DOTS then close in to launch MIASMA II. SMN used a Tri Disaster to hold those that didn't got destroyed and hatched.
Because bane can only spread to 3 targets you are not sure to destroy all. But the remaining are easy to take care of.
In the end getting the most of the team abilities is the key. Some content easier with some tools, just have to learn play differently.
I'm guessing the OP is either Arcanist or Scholar and being a Scholar myself I feel your pain.
I tried to do this dungeon with War/Scholar/Bard/Dragoon and we just kept failing.
However when I switched to summoner and went with War/Sum/BLM/WHM we were able to clear it fine.
I think the issue is you need 2 DPS that can do enough damage to kill the morbol seedlings in the final room.
Also our White Mage helped out by Spamming Holy since as a summoner my burst AOE's are slow and crappy lol
Also since this dungeon pretty much hates the arcanist class, if you go as a summoner or scholar you have to constantly Rouse your pet so they don't die from the poison OR constantly heal them or have swiftcast available so you can raise them on the spot. Good luck!
While I didn't have to do AV for my own relic since I unlocked the quest before it was changed, I do run it to help friends every so often. As SCH it's very annoying to do the first and last boss if the group isn't competent. The stacks never run off on your pet, so they constantly die in the dungeon and you don't have Lustrate unlocked to help makeup for heals while you wait for instant cast to come off cd to resummon.
Aurum Vale is just one of those places, like the swamp in Dark Souls, that no one wants to go to unless they have to.
I finished AV with PLD, WHM, SCH & DGN, it was PITA if the tank does not know what he is doing, if you can get a decent tank through DF, you should not ave problem with it, as for difficulty, I still think cutter's cry is harder.
This is my Favorite Dungeon... First time I did as BRD with SMN+SCH+PLD and was really hard, we wipe many times... But I really enjoy the challenge...
I really hope SE make a Hard Version... :3
Cutter's first boss is harder than the others in my opinion. A tank that isn't good at large AoE tanking is going to kill his healer constantly there. Chimera is basically hokey pokey. But Cutter's Cry isn't outright discriminatory against any job like Aurum Vale has it out for Arcanists. :p

Did you perhaps mean Sunken Temple of Quarn....? I cleared Cutter's Cry in 1 try...Aurum Vale and Quarn took me several tries...(;・∀・)
AV is the most difficult dungeon before coil
It is.Quote:
I honestly wonder if it's even doable as SCH.
Also, I was on fruit duty. I would take fruits for the entire party - meaning 1 fruit. There was 10 fruits around me, just had to pick one.
Yeah, as everyone was saying, bringing a ton of AoE for that last boss is almost essential. That being said, I have never successfully completed that one in a pug, only by bring 2 dps and a healer from my FC was I able to actually do it. It's not an easy dungeon.
The last boss in the dungeon can be a pain so, as others have pointed out, try go for a AoE heavy party. I think this fight is where a Warrior can really outshine a paladin with berserk/over power spam on the seeds. Every little bit helps. Also for a quick note, if any of the seedling hatch tell the other members before the fight NOT to run away with them on them. Simply group up and AoE them down.
I tried this personally on a MNK and while MNK has AoE, I had trouble. I switched over to WAR and ran with a good AoE party and he went down first shot.
Only thing hard about Sunken Temple is asshats who leave after they finish their GC huntinng log, along with the dungeon's rep which means no one joins an in progress. I ran Aurum Vale 20-30 times, mostly through DF, and only failed a handfull. Mind you the majority of those times (levels 47-49 unrested XP's worth, give or take) i was BLM so the last boss was usually a non-issue. Oh and i only got the pet last week as a +1 relic blm when we ran it almost by accident when a whm neither of us knew started complaining about failling it again in say while a tank buddy and i were goofing off on alt classes at the costa teleport thingy and we ninja invited her and did it.
No offense intended but just because IGN says it does not make it fact, they are definately missing parts.
To top that off I had been doing AK for a while (after completing the GC Darkhold quest before I even set food into Aurum Veil.
As far as difficulty. I can definately see where it can be a pain as it requires planning an communication to complete (use the fruits at the right times, etc).
When AV was first unlocked for me I cleared it 5 or 6 times, just for fun, as SMN without too much trouble. DOT the seeds at the last boss and have the melees speedkill any that pop. SMN should switch off the boss to backup healing while this goes on. When all the adds are down, go back to the boss. Meteor limit on the third batch. the trick is not to get in a hurry or panic. Just slow, steady, and adaptable. Keep everyone alive and you can't fail.
Then when they changed the reqs. for the GC quest, I failed 7 runs in a row trying to get it done again. Every one timed out on the last boss, usually because we'd wipe 4 or 5 times on Coin Counter and take too long.
Aurum Vale isn't even as hard as it was before.
