I'm quite fond of Dancer really, however I'm not sure how it would be utilized in "this" world.
Edit: I support the other jobs listed in this thread as well. I think it would be fun to see jobs from all over the Final Fantasy Series implimented.

We ALL got a little overexcited and we're all over it now. We should seriously move on to the topic at hand.
On that note ...
... a Gladiator is an Armory Class. Just as a Conjurer is an Armory Class. A Soldier would be a Job, and as Akihiko Matsui says, Jobs are used to perform specialized roles in parties. Gladiator has no specialization. Neither does Conjurer nor Marauder.
The Soldier job would provide specialization to inflict maximum punishment on enemy personnel (i.e. break stuff and kill people). Against humanoids, they would excel because they have skills that destroy equipment. Against fluffy monsters, they would be less effective as those particular skills would be less useful.
A Job like ... say, Berserker could be made to be more effective against fluffy critter like Aldgoats, but still be all about damage dealing.
I wanna see sch, drg and cor from ffxi.
DRG obiously would be unlocked by lancer, COR would be from muskateer (when it gets implemented) and all they could do with SCH would be a hybrid from THM and CON.
Hybridisation could be a good root to go down so you need 2 classes a specific rank to unlock a Job, might be better to go into more detail in another thread to avoid derailing it
I was thinking about this, by making some crafting/gathering specializations, they can give crafters/gatherers a role in combat, and since jobs seem like they wont use leveling, they dont have to worry about not getting exp. The only problem is, im assuming they ll still be gimp in combat compared to other classes, so would it really serve a purpose?
+1 x infinity
This was what I was going to suggest this as well... it was my favorite in FFXI and I would love to see it make a return in some form to FFXIV. I would even like it if they changed it slightly to fit in this world better.
Dancer Type Please <3
I would also, as other have said, like to see a:
Beastmaster Type
Dragoon Type
Summoner Type
While I know the creators already have ideas for jobs, they did say early on that they would implement pet classes at some point. They just felt implementing it from the start would unbalance the game, so my hope is some of these pet type classes/jobs will return to FFXIV in some form. I think that would be lovely!

Puppetmaster :D a GOOD Puppetmaster.
The mammet automation are adorable already
that list misses
NINJA
Sounds good, though I am very curious as to what you guys think will be done for Summoner. I mean, it's already obvious from the main storyline quest's cutscenes that characters with the Echo have the ability to summon the Primals. So there has to be some way to make this work.
It all depends on how it's implemented. For example, borrowing the miner -> demolitionist example I used earlier, you might make their job specialization be DD + chance to disorient on each blast, perhaps with some class specific skills to incap body parts (land mines or something). Perhaps they would be less potent DD than a purely combat oriented job, but
I don't think they would be useless.
Hey smartypants.
There is data in the game already for a bard that is separate from arcanist. Bard is not arcanist. Also, there is an area in Gridania intended for bards, with the bard logo.
Edit: Also, Mystic currently has nothing to do with summoner. It seems more like a white mage if anything based on current data on spells and abilities.
Oracle
Blue Mage (Impish Incantations Please)(1000 Needles)
So did Time Mage, Green Mage, Blue Mage, and a dozen other magic and non-magic classes throughout the FF series. Time-alternating spells are not uncommon.
White Mage also does more than just heal stuff. They use holy magic. Mystic's spells are aligned to astral elements.
to start they should just copy/paste the jobs in FFXI for the time being
To those that didn't read through the entire *thread*, the argument over job/class distinctions is done and over with. I GET IT NOW. OK?
I have a few I'd like to suggest as well as general ideas to go with them:
I would really love to see Dancer come back, and I even have a suggestion that it could branch off Pugilist. It's a little bit of a logic leap, but I think Pugilist is the closest base we have to make a Dancer connection. It could be their support role. Or prehaps Gladiator's support role since they have daggers already.
I would also like to see Dragoon return, but chances are very high that this is already one of the jobs they have in mind given the limited options for Lancer.
I would also like to see Dark Knight, however I'd rather they come in as a class instead of a job because a Dark Knight without a Scythe is a sad Dark Knight. :(
Thief
Beastmaster

Some ideas. :)
I agree on drawing on more FF titles for ideas for jobs, but the implementation of the classic jobs is also important.
Question to everyone here: how do you think the quests for these jobs pan out? I personally want something a little more involved with the actual job itself rather than a tale about some guy or girl who happens to be of that job. or maybe a happy medium where some of the job quests involve one, while other jobs involve alternative story styles.
Also, I vote for necromancer.
Not sure, but I would love for them to be involved! Fights, or some kinda puzzle... I just don't want them to be:
Go run to person 'A' in Ul'dah
Ok go run to person 'B' in Grid
Ok go back to Ul'dah and person 'A'
Congrats you've open up job: Time Waster!
XD
Anyway I remember in 11 some were fun to open, some took a lot of time (what was it Paladin that had like 3 different mission that you had to do) but were fun, and some were so easy.... (Ranger where you just had to go watch a tiger die? yeah remember that one??) but I liked how all of them did tie the point of the job into it some how.
I actually enjoyed the stories for opening up jobs in 11 so as long as they take from that and improve it I'll be happy. :)
Geomancer
It has not been done yet and it would work well in this game. Have it play like it did in tactics. What ever land type you are standing on gives you a set of spells to cast. And there could be a quest that would allow you to use a few of the other land type at your whim.
Dancer/Bard
Bring these two back as they are the staple buffers in the FF universe.
Though they have been mentioned:
Paladin
Ninja (but not like in FFXI, instead more like stealth/dmg/support/crowd control? maybe)
Cannoneer (mostly because I want a tech nuking answer to Blm, FFXI Black Mages left a bad taste in my mouth)
FFXI's ninja was terrible.. Tank? hah. it shoulda been DD on par with thief.
Definitely Far Eastern Warrior class or something that specializes as Samurai.

Made in March. ^__^ If it turns out anything remotely like that (eventually) then I would be ecstatic.
Just giving a few suggestion to possible ideas for jobs...
Necromancer
Juggler
Barbarians
Warlock / Warlord
Druid
Sorcerer
Stygian Wizard / Evil Wizard
Pirate
Hunter
Priest
Umbral Knight / Astral Knight
Umbral Wizard / Astral Wizard
Dragon Shaman
Duskblade
Witch Doctor
Assassin
Marksman
Magician
I'm sure there are plenty more, just a few off the top of my head.
Blu mage.
I want to turn into a dodo and put this thread to sleep.
