1. Have a PLD and WHM.
2. Let all small adds spawn, have tank use cooldowns if those itty bitty tonberries are hurting him.
3. Once all adds have spawned, cast a single holy, all adds die.
4. Have tank invincible.
You can kite it or kill the adds and sit it in the middle.
I prefer the 2nd strategy because it allows dps for better uptime on the boss and makes the fight much easier.
Tank - Tank the boss in the middle of the room, that's it.
Healer - Heal, also help contribute to the dps that is on add killing duty if possible.
DPS - one person on add killing duty, should be the dps with the most mobility or is ranged, the other dps should sit on the boss. The dps that is killing adds may even sometimes have an oppotunity to land a few hits on the boss every now and then too.
When big adds spawn, only worry about killing any remainder small adds, then that dps should go onto the boss. Then use limit break it should be anywhere from 1.5-2 bars.
Win.
Probably one of the easiest boss fights in FFXIV
Let adds gather in the middle, aoe...max DPS up time on the boss and shortens the fight considerably.
Ranged DPS kills 3 adds.*
Tank tanks boss.
Other DPS stays on boss.**
Healer heals.
Once slashers pop, all on boss, ignore all adds.
*Replace Ranged DPS with Healer once sufficiently geared
**Replace with Both DPS stay on boss once sufficiently geared
Our tank just kites it around the room and the healer goes DD mode.
*shrug*
Tonberries2slow.
We clear it in about 8-12 minute runs.
What I do as a BLM is telling the party I do the adds, and I just kill them as they appear. Never killed the tank even when he though it would do. Just kill them as they appear and the grudge will never reach dangerous levels. Stop killing adds when Slashers appear and just tank and spank him done.
So far this strategy has a 100% victory chance for me. Neve failed this if I do it like this. Not even when I was full AF1.
Seriously, Tonberry King is the easiest part of the dungeon. My group has a lot more trouble with the stupid pudding, and the Keeper has that obnoxious draw-in + turbo poison move.
For TK just stick one DD on the boss and one standing back a bit. The one standing back pulls adds slowly and constantly as they approach the tank, waiting for a grudge to go off between each set of three. He can tell when its safe when half the tank's HP suddenly disappears and then fills back up.
Once the stalkers appear, everyone zergs the boss and burns all their CDs and the Limit Break. Easy, easy, easy win.
That goddamned pudding will have you pulling hair out if one of your DDs is dumb. The adds will Paralyze/Weight everyone while the boss runs around randomly oneshotting you. And if the DDs miss a blue add the boss will heal all his HP back in the process. As the healer I die on this fight a lot. "The boss targets you!" *Sprint* "RUN AWAAAYYY " Adds: LOLNOPE! *bzzt! Para. *Blurt! Weight. "Oh god I'm running in slow-mo and can't get Leeches off!" *SPLATTER!* Dead. Happens at least once a night due to slow/dumb DDs.
My strategy as a SCH, kill the adds while the dps nukes the boss, letting my fairy heal the tank up until right before he does everyone's grudge, then I shield, and heal him up afterwards. Then near the end I just ignore the adds and dot up the boss (Which I have been doing previously as well).

There are 2 efficient, calm, and viable strategies to this.
Both require a few key things:
Tank - Hold TBK in the center of room. Distance = Time. Slows the add threat.
Healer - If you have a dps go add duty, keep them cleansed of heavy effect. They will love you for it. Stoneskin before TBK's Everbodies Grudge if 3 stacks+
IGNORE big tons completely.
Strategy 1 - Blm/Brd/Smn go add duty and use dot's and tab target. Do this until Big Ton's spawn and you just burn the boss from there. Core team(Tank-Healer-2nd DPS) just tank and spank.
Strategy 2 - Make sure you have 1 if not 2 AoE based dps' such as Blm/Brd/Smn and wait for adds to get in close to tank/boss then burn them down with AoE's. LB2 the last set before big Tons.
Before you ask or scrutinize, YES, this can be done at low gear checks. I've done it with only 1 piece of DL and a Garuda bow and I was the highest of the gear check. Strategy 1 is better for low level gear sets.
I never fail on him. The biggest mistake I have seen is people telling the tank to kite or having Blm deal with the adds.
Tank the boss in the middle. One dps on adds, one on boss. Choices for add duty Brd > Smn > Drg > Mnk > Blm. The wind-up time for Blm is what hurts them from my exp. The little tonberry have very little HP and go down fast. Also this is very important... The little Tonberry are dead before you see them go down. You can attack them long after they are dead... if your dps do this it is going to really slow them down.
Every tank can handle 3 stacks at least. If you can't it is because the healer is failing big time or you are not using your AF.
One final point... The little guys are not very dangerous to anyone that isn't tanking. Anyone can get them off the tank and should if they get to close. Even healers should be tossing stuff at them just to keep them off the tank.
Ran this 10 times today, with run #1 being the first time. Died to the boss once. Tank in full AF gear with DL belt and GC weapon...and have finished it easily with 3 others geared the same.
The most wipes occurred with a BLM wearing a mix of Allagans and DL, and her two friends in the same. I don't think gear makes all that much of a difference, when the adds are picked up correctly it's easy, when not it's hard.
As a PLD coming in fresh at 50 with no real gear to speak of, 4 stacks left me with 200 health or so, 5 stacks killed me if I didn't get SS/Adl before the hit, which for some reason I usually don't.
*shrug* I'd watch the video posted and set your group up accordingly...I didn't feel like any of the WP bosses were all that hard.
It all boils down to the DPS you assign to killing tonberries. It is quite simple, really: kill tonberries as soon as possible... But stop at the number of stack you can handle (3 for < 5k and some tanks, 4 for > 5k and some tanks, basically).
Obviously you have DPS overzealous that will kill you by pulling a 6 stacks grudge. However note that you have a LOT more that think they got it and are overcautious. They keep feeding you 1 to 2 stacks grudge for the first 60% of the fights, thus leting slowly some tonberries accumulate. As the fight then increase in pace, and as you can not catch up later (cause can't go to 5 stacks), it means that every time you eat a 1 to 2 grudge with any tonberry still alive, your dps sucked and made the ending part of the fight harder. If he does it too much, you will die at the end swarmed by tonberries.
Last point, when big tonberries spawn, it is the signal for stopping caring about mini tonberries altogether and turn into burn boss down mod.
