I would have no problem with this...as long as they get scale armor and stay off that hideous trash can stuff. As a Red Mage, gotta do your thing with style. I'm generally not into tanking, but I would play Red Mage if it were like this, though I think it should be DPS with some supportive stuff, with the core class possibly something akin to Spellblade from Tactics A2 but using raipiers mainhand and a gauche offhand for an extra attack and/or additional parry chance, like fencers of old did with.Quote:
Come to think of it Red Mage could make a very interesting high risk/high reward tank. Sword/raiper for base combat, melee based fire/ice/thunder spells for damage moves, and a setup of highly situational buffs/debuffs/self heals for mitigation. A regain for sustained damage, a short lived mass armor buff for power attacks, a debuff for toning down AOE spam, that kind of stuff.
Make it the hard to play but unstoppable when played right tank class.
Dark Knight, heavy DPS. The core class for it can be Lanista, taken from FF Tactics A2, which plays similar to a Dark Knight, weapon being Great Sword. Dark Knight at least should be able to use plate armor as an option.
Samurai could be a tank. Parivir could be the core class, being derived from the Indian term Parivrajaka, a subclass of the merchant caste known to take bodyguard jobs.
For Ninja...I believe Thief should be the class for the Ninja job. It was that way in the first FF, and Edge in FF IV was a ninja but had the token Thief ability "Steal".
True, which is why I think they should be able to use plate armors like the tanks BECAUSE they're going to have an ability like Souleater which will drain HP to do more damage and the like.Quote:
i'd like to see SAM be a tank and DRK be a balls-to-the-wall glass melee DPS. DRK being even remotely associated with tanking would make me such a sad panda, a class with a history of having it's signature abilities sacrifice HP/defenses to deal more damage has no business ever being imagined as a tank, imo. warrior is already a drain tank.

Time Mage definitely has to appear.
There are some really interesting possibilities for fundamental job mechanics based around something like Haste/Slow/Stop. Something that came to mind was: perhaps you'd use different types of Gravity as damage dealers, but how much damage it deals fluxuates around the Slow/Haste applied? I'm imagining something akin to Black Mage, but with damage being the resource you control instead of MP.
And there are many interesting abilities that lore wise could be attached to time magic: Quick, Warp, Rasp, Meltdown, Life 3, Double/Triple. Double/Triple could even act like Astral Fire/Umbral Ice do, being a buff that unleashes multiple spells if they are sequenced correctly. -

I'll only say one thing. We need more jobs/classes on the roster than XI had. Not immediately, of course. Maybe add 2-3 every other expansion like they did in XI. I really hope Muskateer gets patched in before 3.0. They have their own guild for crying out loud.

Puppetmaster as a DPS/Support class (like the Bard) for the Pugilist.
A) Mammets are created jointly between the Alchemist Guild and the Goldsmithing Guild, both of which are located in Ul'dah, which is also where the Pugilist Guild is.
B) Puppetmasters fight with hand-to-hand combat alongside their mammet, which makes it perfect to branch from pugilist.
C) Being a pet class, Puppetmaster can get away with devoting all of it's (currently 5) job skills to the improvement of it's mammet.
D) The companion customization window is currently only used for your chocobo; Puppetmasters could use it for their mammets, to customize their looks and combat progression.
And E) There would need to be some means of being able to "respec" your mammet, which could easily be replicated for the chocobo, allowing people to "respec" it however they desires (this could be limited like the item required to reset bonus stats). -

Ninja, BlueMage, Thief, RedMage, BeastMaster, Puppetmaster but I think they should take into consideration the current DF wait times of each of the roles we have now to create some semblance of balance instead of over-saturating a role. Also they should consider their own current Census/statistics [released last month] for what people are focused on. Whatever they do next I look forward to it!
