Bahamut Lair gear equal to Mythology gear?

Thats a fantastic point. I didn't think about that. When they launch Crystal tower, will that gear already be below what you get from mythology AK runs? To Ladon's point above, I think itemization is completely broken but I can understand SE doing this if it meant getting the game out sooner. I hope SE can shed light on their plans to fix itemization in the future.

I guess it's worth mentioning AF is job specific while Allagan drops are for roles. In other words, even when they have the same stats the allagan piece is better simply because it can be used by multiple jobs.

To achieve the same with AF2 (full set for every job) you'd have to always cap your mythology over a huge time period (more than a year) that's definitely much longer than a good core group running Coil can get the allagan set.

To me it just feels they went backwards, speaking as a paladin the DL gear is a step back in looks compared to the AF gear that is valid for a very short period of time. Then you look at the stats that and i am wondering if people are just doing this just for the carrot and not the cookies, since the gear really is moot point it seems.

it just feels like they went backwards, as a paladin i am going from this cool looking gear to the look i had at i think it was lvl 41 ish with the yellow gear. Just a little disappointing from an ascetic point i guess.

As far as I understand, the real plan is indeed to first run Crystal Tower before going to Coil. One of the reasons why coil is so much harder than everything else right now is because it's balanced towards Crystal Tower gear, not Darklight. This is likely the reason why Yoshi-P mentioned that not many people will clear it before 2.1, and why 2.1 is technically a "nerf" to Coil. They won't reduce the coil difficulty, just increase your own gear power which indirectly makes it "easier".

That said, I'd assume next patch will also extend the Coil and people who can clear it now and get Allagan sets will have an advantage over the groups who only manage to clear it after getting Crystal Tower gear. Also, it's very likely that even the current top groups might still need to upgrade a few gear pieces with Crystal Tower drops.

Yeah another good point. Really, Allagan and AF2 should be switched and we should be buying Allagan gear from mythology and gearing up in it by doing the lower Coil turns. AF2 should be like iLevel 95 with stats and special abilities and dropped only in upper level coil. They unfortunately really screwed this up and the only way to fix it at this point is do something extreme and physically replace all the acquired AF2 out there right now and replace it with the Allagan equivalent.

The main question is, if mythology gear is ilvl90, and bahamut lair gear is ilvl90, and crystal tower is supposed to be below bahamut lair, then won't the crystal tower gear be automatically worse than the mythology gear you can already obtain?

AF gear is perfectly viable to do WP and AK in.

If someone decides to wait 3-4 months to get their AF gear by running AK, but you get the equivalent gear by doing BC(and getting the gear MUCH faster), then why should you care?

They spent more time farming for gear that you got quicker. I don't see the issue here. It's called accessibility, and the second SE starts catering to the hardcore(and ONLY the hardcore), the game will fall flat of the subs they want.

Clarification:
Running BC to obtain gear drops is infinitely more fun than spamming AK. So are you playing this game to have fun by overcoming obstacles and obtaining loot? Or is the only point of the game to make sure you EARNED your gear in a HARDER manner than the rest? It's a seriously ridiculous thing.

EDIT: I will NOT deny the problem with itemization in the fact that Crystal Tower will not drop good as good as BC or AF. That's totally bizarre to me.

Well, even if people are capping mytho every week since early access, no one will have full mytho gear set before 2.1. Unless 2.1 is 4-5 months away instead of the expected 1-2.

I understand, but the main problem is that gear obtained through mythology will automatically be better than what will come out in Crystal Tower theoretically.

I will have mythology gloves available next week. Those gloves will automatically be better (theoretically) than what a new raid dungeon will produce 2 months from now. That is a major problem with itemization.
