Now is a bad time to buy any 600 card if you're updgrading from a 500 series card or older, wait for the 760 variant for more performance for your dollar. Coming from the 560 to the 660 wouldn't be much difference, 15/20 FPS difference at most The cpu bottleneck will be minimal.


Right now I'm waiting for nVidia to make optimizations for their fermi and kepler card with ARR because as of now the game is not full utilizing all of the gpu, even in non cpu bottlenecking areas.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I didn't think it would make sense to upgrade from a 560 to a 660. Also was just really wondering if my processor can handle much higher graphics cards. If my PC could benefit/handle (not bottleneck) a 680, I may just end up getting my son one of the new 700 cards later on, and taking his 680. If it fits on my mobo, that is, lol.

it would fit in your mobo without issue it the case that would be the issue. I don't think you have much bottleneck with a I7

CPU bottlenecking is really dependant on the game, with MMOs in general they're typically cpu dependant when there are alot of PCs on the screen, but again i7 anything even at the stock speeds are fine right now, it won't matter till DDR4 systems become the mainstream.

Even though my i7 is from 2009 and on the very low weak end of all i7's? i7 860 2.8Ghz?

It's still good to play with the big-boy Nvidia cards?

I have an aftermarket case so I'm pretty sure i'm good for space. Was the 3.0 pci slot or w/e I wondered about for my mobo.

At least for another 2 graphic card generations yeah. PCI-e 3.0 doesn't make a difference for graphic cards with the exclusion of multiple card setups. We've have yet to fully saturate the x16 PCI-e 2 bandwidth. Only Sandy Bridge extended, Ivy Bridge, and Haswell type chips have PCI-e 3.

the recommended systeme is higher then me and in the benchmark i still get at maximum 1920x1080 .."high"

I have one PCI Express x16 card slot on my mobo. I have no idea what the PCI 3.0 means vs. 2.0, or that I could use a card labeled 3.0. My current card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130660)


It's good to know I could make use of my son's 680, and get him a 780 (his PC is a beast - he plays many games, I just play this one), and we'd both get a nice upgrade ^^

It's more than double what I got with my prior GPU (GeForce 240).

I'm very happy, and I expect to run the game on High (rather than Max) with a couple custom changes to get my 60 FPS. Or maybe I'll have that 680 by then. :o

I'm pretty sure that AMD does not make a 6870 chip that supports 4GB onboard ram, unless you're talking about system ram, which is a different story.

To the person above me with the Geforce 560, I'm going to recommend lowering your resolution to 720p and possibly disabling vsync when you play. Your avg framerate is in the 30s, but like my situation, when I enter a high traffic area and especially during a FATE, the framerate will drop down into the lower 20s/high 10s, which makes the game not run smooth at all. A 660ti or even possibly a non ti would have put the avg framerate of your system at about 60 using high settings. Most people actually experience 60+ using maximum settings.

I'm not saying to go buy it, but I am just showing some general performance numbers as you were looking into. I've run into a similar delima with a 6870 card I recently purchased, which is close to your 560 in performance, where, for me, its definitely worth upgrading to a faster 660ti especially with the used ones from eBay going for $200 now.

I don't think you will notice much between high and max settings, however.
