Why can't their back paddling animation be as good as this?

it's backpedaling, not 'back paddling."
and we already know animations and animation transitions are incomplete in the alpha, so you're complaining about something that's most likely already being fixed.
Backpedaling is a feature, not a bug. You can still quickly turn around and run if that's what you want to do- in FFXI you could backpedal while target locked as well. Disengage the target lock and THEN you'd run towards the camera.
Oh I see, not really native english speaker here. I'll fix it.
Its not really an animation problem, its a movement problem. Its the speed.
You slow down when you backpedal.
I'm not saying its a bug. I'm saying its bad design.
Even if they have a turn around button, the instances in which you want to backpedal will be lower than the ones in which you are just running back and forth.
In XI and 1.0 you were able to lock your target and back pedal. Here its the opposite.
They are making a rule out of the exception and turning the rule into the exception.
(Making backpedaling the default motion, and turn around a button triggered feature)
Just confirmed with a friend of a friend of a friend who's in the alpha (I'll post where it shows that in the Live letter once I find it.), you can point your camera one way while your character is running the other way by (I think) right clicking and moving the mouse while moving with the WASD keys.
It's just that the people recording these alpha videos don't do that. For some reason.
Backpedaling is useful especially in situations that involves combat like parrying, blocking, and attacking. you cannot parry, attack, or block if you're not facing the enemy.
Now pay attention to Yoshi-P's character as he's running away from the bridge, you should see him briefly look behind him while he's running, and his character doesn't turn around with him.
I hope this is enough to satisfy you, Majidah.
Elexia, Elexia....Elexia.....
I appreciate sarcasm, I really do, but man..., it's the same with you. This animation doesn't look nearly as bad as it did before where the character would take huge steps backwards. Back pedaling won't vanish because it's implemented for multiple reasons that is answered here.
Exactly, you can't parry if your back is facing the enemy. I think some people have forgotten that we can be attacked in 4 different directions. This gives us a retreat while having the ability to block or parry enemies.
And it's especially important for pvp. But I don't think you'll be a fan of pvp since it likely won't be like XI's intricate and immersible pvp system.
Isn't that just turning the camera around while running forth?
Thing is. Backpedaling already existed in 1.0. It was triggered by locking your target.
Most of your game life you'll spend running from one place to another, not making sure you're facing the enemy.
Is back pedaling useless? No, it has it uses. I've used it on 1.0. But 2.0 is making it global, not situational.
Now what you trigger is turning around, which should be what's really global.
You can tun the camera by 180° with the mouse? problem solved? Looks worse than in 1.0 but has the same effect.
