Queue times suck, so nobody transfers. Nobody transfers, so the queue times suck. IDK, unless SE offers some kind of incentive to get people from Elemental to transfer over, we're kinda gonna just be stuck like this. Apparently, Materia IS growing, but I think it's mostly new players and it's growing VERY slowly. For me, I transferred from Kujata day one. There wasn't really anything keeping me there. I'll be staying where I am. At least I feel like I'm doing my part in keeping Materia somewhat alive and not just abandoning it like others have.
It was the same with other servers when they went live, but the past expansions boost the numbers up. I'm sure once the new one drops the server will fill with new people.
They should just connect it to NA. Even if people only use it do things like retainers, housing etc at least they can get stuff done at any hour and not struggle. Both datacenters speak english so unlike the JP datacenter that wants english speakers gone we would welcome them with open arms.
Do not connect OCE to NA, I don't want to have 500 ping to the server or have to do PF and and DF with people who have 500 ping regularly. The game breaks at high latency.
I had a character in Materia, the lag was too much to play comfortably so I abandoned the server, it's been over a year now and those worlds continue to be "new" which means no one is playing there.
I have a solution, dismantle Materia and reallocate the resources in other Data Centers that need it, unless SE believes they will get enough players eventually.
The reason it seems to exist currently is that JP doesn't like to play with EN players. It's a catch 22 to me that JP doesn't like playing with them but there's not enough of them to have their own DC that is populated. They should just fold it back into JP in my opinion. The ping is too great for the people there to play with NA or EU and they're too underpopulated to stay independent.
