That alt currency launch (station cash) was a disaster, where players were able to sub for a whole year for like 15$. I remember the tokens now: Krono

As for the original question, there's no way they would ever do something like that. It would just aggravate the botting situation and eventually force adjustments to the selling values of items.

They've mentioned they can budget better if they know how much money they'll be getting via the subscription count.
It was in response to a free to play model.

So if people can maybe sometimes get months free via gil if they so desire it, they may not have the revenue stream they project.
So I doubt they'll be changing the sub models any time soon.

Players would scream. Plus wouldn't they have to sell it at prices competitive to the gil sellers?

The model wouldn't change.

A sub would always be paid for, just not necessarily by the person paying with gil.

‘Tis merely a proposal with the game code that they could do. FFXIV is far more malleable than other games when it comes to modding, and has a more robust modding scene than most online games. That includes various APIs that can access game files, logs, memory, and even server calls to assist a bot in harvesting mats for sale. The marketboard itself is heavily automated, both by end users and bots, with these easily-available plugins and APIs. Sure, other games have bots too. But FFXIV is distinguished by being easy to mod for just about everyone. Perhaps SE could change that!

Also, user reports no doubt count for a large portion of those banned, as it’s the only thing that the in-line chat report feature can be used for.

The matter of the fact is, they need to start banning the buyers. they take care of the RMT market, and suddenly the bots wont be as much of a problem. its really that simple. you start taking action against the player buying the gil, and buying gil no longer seems risk free or attractive. end of story. it works.

After what the wow token did to wow, i do not want that anywhere near ff14
