Dude... it's one item slot. Just get 99 of them. I doubt they'll run out in less than a couple of months.
I have a button on my hotbar for them. It doesn't take that much.

I'd rather pay a 36 gil tax when my chocobo gets wiped out by a hunt or fate boss than have to wait out a CD. And since buying 999 well over 2 years ago I haven't had to restock once, despite doing quite a lot of fate grinding this expac.
So, I don't agree with this suggestion.
If there's something I'd like to see, it'd maybe be some chocobo skill updates.
This is sad. People will eventually want the game to play itself because they are too lazy to do anything and want everything handed to them.
It's one slot. Buy 999 of them, put it on your hot bar, and forget about it for a few expansions.
So there is a mechanic in place where you can make a chocobo's food it's Favorite by training them 10 times in a row using that food, then using your chocobo's "favorite" food to summon them (I am not sure if this works this way for anything but Curiel Root cause I've never used anything else, other foods might just need to be fed after summoning) gives them a buff:
Food Normal Effect Favorite Effect
Curiel Root Companion EXP Up Companion EXP Up II
Sylkis Bud Companion Attack Up Companion Attack Up II
Mimett Gourd Companion Healing Potency Up Companion Healing Potency Up II
Tantalplant Companion Maximum HP Up Companion Maximum HP Up II
Pahsana Fruit Companion Enmity Up Companion Enmity Up II
Honestly since mine has been capped I haven't messed with any of that, but what you summon it with matters last time I checked.
Removing that whole system seems like a loss of a fun little side optimization.
Once they added a "remaining time" timer to the companion Health bar I never had it run out in the middle of a fight, especially since you can "double" feed the chocobo to extend the summon to an hour.
Is it really that hard or annoying to glance at the timer occasionally?
THIS ^^ and they take up an inventory slot. The "companion" is steeped in 2.0 design. I have a feeling it will be overhauled in the next few years. Which is nice :)
Some things I would like to see:
Gysashl Greens be removed or used to train your companion.
Summon your companion like you do a mount and it stays up as long as you want.
New skills and ranks added
Until the above is implemented please extend the 1 hour time limit to 2 hours. I think this would be a sweet spot.
For me the more concerning thing that takes my gil is teleporting, not because it is an inconvenience, but where does it all go? Is Hydaelyn sitting on a pile of it, or swimming in it like Scrooge Mcduck? If it is going towards upkeep of the crystal how are we delivering the gil to those people by just dropping it on the ground when we teleport away?
The sole purpose of teleporting fees (and some other things like gear repairs) is to destroy gil.
Since many things generate gil out of thin air, this is necessary to keep inflation, etc from getting totally out of control. These are known as gil sinks. (But if you absolutely must have a lore explanation... How about, it's taxes to maintain aetherytes and various organizations?)
