That would be an insult to Bahamut though and something Tiamat would not be pleased by.

At first I thought Azdaja would be somewhere in the New World, too, but someone suggested Azdaja could have somehow made it/accidentally transferred to one of the other Shards that we haven't heard about it, which, if eventually in some much later expac (best for a Raid series) would make for a cool plot twist
Neither Bahamut nor Tiamat have been on Meracydia for 6000 years, which is enough time for another to move in, and possibly a leaderless and defeated dragon population who needs the guiding claw of a great wyrm.
I have a feeling Azdaja is going to be wherever the writers decide to send us regardless. This game’s plot has a tendency to write the lore rather than the other way around anyway.
Where is that suggested? I’ve heard of people say that the large eggs on the First could have been dragon eggs, but I thought it was heavily implied it was the invisible dinosaurs from the DoL role quests.
Not the First, we know the creatures there aren't related to the First Brood. I want to say it was reddit, but I don't remember. I agree that Azdaja will show up wherever the plot goes next and could use them, but that I hadn't considered one of the other Shards now feels like an oversight.
I could well-imagine the raid questline for 7.0 involving dealing with one of the AWOL Sundered Ascians who was prepping a Shard for a Calamity and is now twiddling their thumbs and causing mischief because the endgame of their bosses is no more, and during this raid we gain as our main ally Azdaja, who chased this Ascian into the Rift and into the Shard, accidentally stranding themselves and therefore placing themselves as the Shard's protector as a miniature copy of Midgarsormr.
It’s off on a tangent but I was hoping that EW would at least mention the AWOL Ascians.Instead, it seems like they were quietly disposed of off-screen. During the last scene with Hydaelyn, she mentions that she’s now the “last of her kind” which I understood to mean the last Ancient. Though I hope to be proven wrong.

Considering the fact there are dragons in Ultima Thule, there must’ve been a few remaining wallowing in despair by the time Meteion showed up and she probably just delivered the coup de grace. They would have died off without her anyway since their eggs weren’t able to thrive any longer on their own planet.
But you don’t wind up in her collection if she didn’t have a hand in your final demise and the echos in Ultima Thule are what the people were like when she met them. The Nekropolis is empty because those people were already dead when she arrived.
