Would you enjoy an arc where the WoL/WoD goes rogue (5.0 spoiler within)

I can't even imagine what would cause us to separate from the Scions in a less than amicable fashion. Nothing that wouldn't smack of lazy writing, at least.

Urianger setting up another scheme and lying to the Warrior of Darkness about his intentions. Much like he has done in the past, only this time it doesn't work out and results in someone the WoD cares about being killed. A rift forms between the Scions and WoD as a result. It wouldn't be terribly difficult for the writers to come up with a plausible scenario for a deep rift to form between the Scions and WoD.

It'd be a refreshing change of pace compared to everything conveniently working out in their favour, since a story risks becoming stale when there's no meaningful consequences for the shadier actions of the so called 'heroes'.

i actually one of those few people who hope in SHB expansion we become somewhat the bad guys (because WOD and stuff)

to maintain the "family friendly" aspect, i though we will met and fight against familiar people in the new world but with some plot twist like the raubhan in SHB world is actually pure evil so we as WOD fight him and so on (iam pretty curious with evil ruthless Kan E Senna lol)

i cant help but think the ff14 story path right now is kinda resemble of avengers movie plot now, iam not surprised if we going to have cutscene "incoming backup" avengers end game style lol (portal open, graha tia come out with hundreds of SHB denizen to help our world)

They've already done this with Minfilia, though. If "someone the Warrior of Light cares about dies" is the metric by which how well it worked out is measured, then his gambit with Minfilia hardly worked out at all. She's well and truly gone, and no amount of "But Ryne" or "But Norvrandt" will make up for her death. And yet the only person to begrudge Urianger for his scheming is Urianger himself. Everyone else got over it or never blamed him to begin with. They certainly didn't go and blame or try to ostracize Thancred or the Warrior of Light for it, nor did Thancred or the Warrior of Light start refusing to cooperate with them over Minfilia's death.

If they weren't willing to draw this melodrama out from Minfilia's death, then who?

The problem is, let's say the WoL gets some major vision of things to come, which causes them to be completely at odds with the Scions. Given the relationship between the WoL, the Scions and even Cid's Ironworks, I think it would just boil down to the scions (probably Y'shtola) demanding an explanation. Once talked out, they'd trust the WoL and follow the hero's lead.

I mean, unless we're talking something like mass genocide which...really..who wants to play that game and be that kind of "hero". Would never happen.

The only thing I can see would be something like after destroying the Ascians and ultimately Zodiark, we then have to take out Hydaelyn. Or the 12 gods (who I'm pretty sure are just Allagan ancients or Ascians anyway). Even then I'm sure they'd just follow us to the ends of the earth.

i mean, even with mass genocide, if there is a solid reason of why we WOL need to do it, i think some of the scions will still trust us (i can see alphinaud being one since he is the closest one with us all this time)

i think its really hard to separate us WOL from scions now, because from my view our bond with scions is already beyond team work at this point. they fully trust us, we WOL are practically scions big gun/ace of spade/deus ex machina to them, gifted with superb plot armor and by natural the WOL is also a kind and heroic person of sort.

the only way i see to separate us with scions if there is a ridiculous twist that the WOL need/must kill one of the scions member willing/unwillingly. and even that i think they still not fully hate us lol

In the first FF mmo, FFXI, they had you occasionally do battle against teammates. 7-5 Chains of Promathia, Tenzen comes to believe he needs to kill you in order to restore the fifth Mother Crystal by having your light return to it. Some of the other teammates know this, though they disagree on whether or not you need to be killed in order to achieve that. Tenzen straight up tries to kill you with the aid of three Taruaru(Lalafell's progenitor race) debuffing you and healing him. While he's using every Samurai technique in the book, including relic weaponskills and a unique skill called Cosmic Elucidation.

Something like that would definitely be feasible within the context of FFXIV. Perhaps we find out that in order to stave off the progenitor of calamities we need to sacrifice ourselves body and soul. Some of the scions, the stronger ones, see it as the only regrettable recourse. The ones who've been with us through thick and thin don't. So we get a battle of Scions and WoL vs. Scions and perhaps other allies. Perhaps we're forced to go too far during the fight, and we accidentally kill one of our former allies, staining and straining our relationship with those who chose to fight on our side, turning more of them against us.

I wouldn't be against a plot that had us fight our closest allies, but it would have to be well executed. And I honestly don't think they have that caliber or writer/time to perfect that sort of storyline anyway. And even if they did it well, it would be very jarring for a lot of players.

Nah, I don't see my character ever going rogue as the wol. It would annoy me tbh, as it goes against everything our journey has been for.

The only way I can see it happen, it would be if any of the "good" institutions we know (the Alliance for instance) somehow turned "bad". Then we would become the public enemy etc.

Personally, I don't think our character as enough (or any) charisma or independence to become rogue, so I don't really want to see it happening in FFXIV. In another format where we would have significant choices to make that would impact our path, then why not.

The Scions accept whatever decision the WoL/WoD (you) chooses at the time of Urianger's confession. We don't have the option to punch him in the face, but one of the options "No more lies", is there to express that you're not just all, "It's all good. Let's move on." Sitting and stewing about Urianger's multiple methods of deception could not be dealt with when Emet is kicking back in the Tempest getting ready to kill everyone, and the WoD is on the brink of succumbing to the light.

The improbability of a rift strong enough to damage the bonds between the WoL and the Scions is exactly why it would be interesting. And again, if it was something that they foresee via the echo; it could very well be something they have to do. Not want to do. As example, the Scions could be set out to do something that for all intents and purposes would normally be beneficial. However, it cannot be allowed to take place or a series of catastrophic events would spiral out of control.

As an example, in an epic battle against Zenos; just before the WoL is about to deliver the killing blow, a vision of some sort intervenes that shows the WoL this series of events that snowball should Zenos die right then and there. When the Scions see him/her stop, they immediately start thinking, "Crap! Not again. Not now! We finally have him!" They move in to proceed to finish him off, and.... well, the WoL stops them. Doesn't kill them, obviously. But being on the receiving end of the WoL's power seriously humbles all of them.

I think some are quick to dismiss it instead of considering how it could be done. There could be several plausible ways to make it happen, but it will require some mental stretching across several minds.
