Thread: Would you enjoy an arc where the WoL/WoD goes rogue (5.0 spoiler within)

This thought came to me several months ago when playing through the original 5.0 storyline where had Emet succeeded, the WoL would have succumbed to the light and would have become the most powerful sin eater to ever exist. Even if they could be contested, the emotional blow to all those who adore the WoL would be crippling.

Fortunately that didn't happen, but I feel there is a greater influence at play: The WoL/WoD themselves. What would happen if the WoL wasn't turned into a monster, wherein putting them down would be what they would want; but rather, what if the WoL's ideals no longer meshed with the Scions? How would you like to see these exchanges in the cutscenes?

In this mind of mine, I envisioned a WoL who is suffering from a great deal of PTSD and begins listening to Esteem; or the Echo (which we now know is capable of showing future events) changes what the WoL needs to do even though the Scions would never go along with it. Either way, they are at an impasse and it escalates REALLY quickly.

I thought it would be really cool if the devs would use this opportunity to showcase the WoL's badassery in an engagement with the Scions. At first they are reluctant because they could never raise their steel against a fellow comrade, but when they finally see that a full effort will be required to incapacitate the WoL, they just get owned. Fully awake mount sized Migarsormr appears, and they both take off into the night.


Anywho. Just a thought a had, and I kind of have a feeling the devs might go this direction at some point as I feel it would be a very viable way to continue the WoLs amazing story after concluding the Hydaelyn/Zodiark conflict. Happy 4th and stay safe!

Being as Ninja / THF / Rogue archetype have been my favorite I would love to see it get the focus.

I catch an air of not approving of the WoL's demigod status. However, the blessing wouldn't have anything to do with the WoL going rogue. If anything, it would be a huge contributor to it. Even if it went away, it wouldn't change that we once had it. It is even far less believable to think the WoL can go through all of their recourse without consequence.

I don't think that would happen as they seem to be a tight bunch and the WoL seems to not be enthralled to the mothercrystals (as the existence of the Esteem would indicate, they still ave free will and a side that doesn't entirley enjoy being the WoL). I could see it happening if either party goes the Well Intentioned Extrmist route, but that also seems improbable.

That is what makes it so interesting. I think it is improbable only because it would be very difficult to mold the story this way. We would no longer be affiliated with the Scions, so it would change things drastically. If we were rogue, we couldn't just show up all willynilly in an allied nation without stirring up some serious conflict. However, from a more realistic perspective, it would only make sense that the WoL eventually begins to see a different path. One where the destination is freedom.

This is purely headcanon though of a 'what-if' situation. The discussion is not really meant to reflect on if it is possible for the dev team to do or not. Sorry, if I was not quite clear on that.

I don't think the writers would ever put us in a situation where we are going rogue as much as I would enjoy a story like that. I believe they said something similar in an interview before early when they announced shb, or perhaps when the question was on our options when it comes to us "speaking", since we tend to agree with everything the Scions tell/ask of us.

But I think it could be an interesting story to explore what would happen if we were to suddenly disappear. Perhaps we're getting spirited away to another shard to help with their world-ending struggles, this time without the other scions to hold our hands, perhaps it's something something ancient teleport magicks that takes us quite literally to the other end of the world and for some reason we can't communicate or travel back to eorzea. It would be interesting to see through cutscenes and perhaps even playing as one of the Scions how they deal with our sudden disappearence. Trying to find out what happened to us, trying to do what we usually did and realizing just how hard/difficult our job was, perhaps even trying to deal with rumours of us running away or how some of our other allies start losing their faith in us and think we truly abandoned them, etc. While we're in the new world or meracydia dealing with some other shenanigans.

I'd love this. I think biggest problem is the fact that WoL doesn't have any dialogue outside of those sentence choice we get sometimes.

tbh Yes i would... I'd like it if the scions all died (since my favorite one already died ...( idc about the others tbh so ya id prefer an arc where we are teamed up with lord zeno's so I can marry him and start a family
