FFXI and FFXIV vet needs newb style advice for crafting rotations...

You know what tool tips dont tell you?? Why a good rotation keeps failing over and over again. I still see low level crafters trying to craft HQ items when they dont have the cp and control needed to push it to HQ. Your advice is like handing a person 250 pieces of 500 piece puzzle then telling them to solve the entire thing. Kinda of hard to solve it if you intentionally give them only half the puzzle!!!

If it's constantly failing, it's not a good rotation for what you're trying to make. That should be obvious.

You don't need a tooltip to know why you're failing. You're failing because you didn't use enough synthesis actions to complete the item before all Durability was consumed.

How many more did you need? That depends on what you were trying to make and your gear. Look at the crafting interface. It tells you what progress you'll make at 100% efficiency. Look at your tooltips. They tell you what the efficiency of the action will be. Do the math.

What should your rotation be not only to complete synthesis but to increase the chances of getting a HQ item? Right back to it depends on your level, your gear and what you're trying to make. You might not be able to guarantee HQ on an item even using HQ mats. That's okay. Unless you're trying to complete a class quest that requires it, items don't have to be HQ when you're leveling. Your XP bonus is based on the increase to quality made through actions, not whether or not the item ends up HQ.

There's a reason why macros shared online list the difficulty plus minimum CP/control/craftsmanship requirements. There is no one size fits all crafting rotation in this game. This is not WoW with its one button, zero difficulty, gearless crafting system. I have 3 level 80 omni-crafters but I can't use the same rotation on all 3 because their gear sets are different. I can't use the same rotation to make both Pliable Glass Fiber and Facet Coat of Gathering because the difficulties are different even though both are level 80** recipes.

But I was perfectly capable of figuring out rotations and understanding why initial attempts might have failed because the information I needed was right there in the tooltips and crafting interface. I did the math and figured out what went wrong.

If you're bad at math, you're going to struggle figuring out crafting on your own. I definitely recommend using Teamcraft in that case. It's a good tool even if you're good at math but want to figure things out quicker.

I understand crafting well enough to know if your stats are too low, then no rotation what so ever is going to help you reach HQ on a craft. Tool tips tell you how much you will make and what the action does..guess what it does not tell?? That your stats are too low and that you need to up them!! Give people proper help!!

2. Search online or ask too see what melds you need

3. Use crafting food and pots

4. Obtain HQ mats if possible

Despite the changes too the crafting system there are people who still struggle with it. The last thing they or this community needs is some self centered know it all jerk giving them less then helpful info while spewing figure it out.

I mean. Looking up rotations won't help with that, either.

The big problem with looking up rotations is all too often, they're aimed at high end level cap players with all their skills. Often you just end up having to work backwards as you figure out what parts of the rotation you actually have access to, and whether the rotation is still functional without the rest. OP is looking for low level advice. And, quite simply, the best advice for low level may as well just be trial and error. You won't have enough skills to put together a completely reliable rotation. And the skills you do have should be easy enough to understand how to chain together. It's not like there's very many options at that point.

Finally, it all really comes down to the same stuff regardless. How many synth steps will you need to finish craft? How many steps does that leave for touch? Is there a way you can better balance durability and CP usage?

Answer all that and you've already laid the foundation for understanding what your available rotation is. Probably it's even more important to be crafting manually and adapting at low level anyway, to better utilize your Goods and Excellents.

The post by Reap00 might generate a negative response, but it was actually one of the more helpful posts I read. Whether or not the OP seeks the rewarding experience that comes with learning how to craft on your own; it certainly cannot be expected for said crafter to disclose how they got there when the person seeking advice does not show the willingness to put in the same effort, and why would they? It's basically the same as copying the notes from the kid in class who is actually paying attention and putting in actual effort to succeed.

The tone would be so much different if the OP came here with a rotation they are trying, or seeking a better understanding of how a certain ability works or ties into another. Basically questions that express a genuine interest into how to craft instead of seeking a cheat sheet. There are guides for that from the players willing to put in the time to assist those seeking the easy path.

There players who struggle with crafting system I am one of them. I dont come here to the forum for help because of answers like Reap's. You assume the person puts in no effort, truth OP was trying and having some problems when nobody replied he went to figuring things out on his own. I know this cause I met up with him and offered help instead of doing the "pin 20 to his shirt and wish him the best of luck". Stop thinking that everyone who asks for rotation is not putting in effort, why not make effort yourselves and maybe ask if they have tried to figure out themselves first. Sorry that are players who enjoy crafting yet struggle to understand the system and want a way to craft without bashing their skulls in further.

This is true. It's not enough that you understand how the skills work because in this game you also need enough stats for HQ crafts. Get or craft HQ gear for your level range and meld it with CP and Control materia and see what you can do after that.

It's good he went to figure things out on his own. I'm not assuming, nor do I feel the crafting system is so simple a monkey can do it. It is an intricate system that has undergone quite a few changes. However, it's not they are asking for a rotation, it's more along the lines of simply asking for a rotation doesn't give us any idea why the player inquiring is having trouble. We don't know their gear, their stats, what their current rotation entails, and no one is under any obligation to seek out this players in game profile. That's on them.

In short, help us help you. It is far more gratifying to stretch out those brain muscles and try to figure things out on your own. We have all kinds of posts going around talking about how crafting isn't challenging, and it makes me wonder how many of those players were given a rotation and didn't craft any of their own facet gear. It makes me wonder how many players free craft - as intended, and make calculated decisions based on the current situation and procs available. The more you work at understanding the system, the less likely you are to come here asking for a rotation. I am hard pressed that any crafter who has put in the work would feel differently.
